Here,s my take on the barndo side; build a mezzanine on the taller side, say 12’ wide, with some bedrooms and a bath upstairs, a kitchen/bath and utility room below. The kitchen would have a window that opens to the concrete pad under the roof with a counter on the outside wall serving both outside and inside entertainment areas. That way you eliminate the need for the trailer
How about instead of just metal roof, but solar panels? Or both? Could easily supply a lot of power for all that stuff. Maybe show some DIY methods of buying refurb'd / used panels etc?
I sleep in a buddy’s garage in Maine when we get a big snow storm for snowboarding. He did a great job of sealing it up and has an electric heater in there that keeps it 65° even when it’s in the teens outside.
You didn't show very much of the surroundings, but I could see some landscapes that looked familiar. I lived for 5 years in Kingsville when I was young.
New subscriber and first time poster here from Kansas City. I'm really enjoying your channel and excited about this new video! We have 40 acres, a mobile home, a 30x50 workshop, and just parked a travel trailer nearby. I've got to learn about using grey water and black water tanks, then dumping into our septic tank. Is that what y'all do at your ranch?
I hope you have a means of egress in the sleeping container. With security grates over the windows, you really need a method for unlocking them and escaping since the door is the other side of the kitchen and the entire interior is plywood. Shame you didn’t thermally decouple the floor in the spare container to help with climate control. As your usage expands and the walls are sprayed, super easy to add some sleeping quarters and dividers in there for “growth”.
11 guys and myself slept in one of those conex builds in Afghanistan, surprisingly enough it’ll feel like home even after a rocket attack. Of course Matt’s doesn’t have a machine gun and AT4 by the door, but they are cozy in the winter!
@ I was always jealous of those guys, I was at COP Blackfish and ours routinely went without A/C due to gennies blowing up from use or just parts going bad and it taking forever for them to be flown out to us. I would gladly take a conex over a bivysack any day of the week though!
Millions of your fellow Americans are living in absolute poverty and you are living like this. This is the problem with getting rich. Just can't wait to show it off. This is why new house's cost so much. Absolute shame.
Honestly I think this is quite modest. It’s probably much cheaper to take the family here than on exotic vacations. Also it’s bold of you to assume a builder’s only income stream is his building company. You have no idea where people are investing and how that’s helping them to have more than if they were just running one building company.
WTF are you talking about, this is super modest. It's some shipping containers in the middle of nowhere, you act like this is some marbled out mansion on the beach. LOL
So great to see father and son! He's a natural on UA-cam! Thanks for the videos Matt, so appreciated.
Won't be long until Will takes over. He's got it down 😅
Will did a great job, Matt, he would be a excellent addition to the show! Keep up the good work!
"We call it the submarine" THAT put a smile on my face!. Hunting camp! Love it!
More father/son projects, please! Great video.
Thank you, from our people freezing here in northwest Indiana. Great setup.
That large overhang is KEY! South Texas sun is no joke.
Yes indeed. How could we integrate this idea into a more standard or modern home?
@@buildshowfull gable patios is what this reminds me of but on steroids lol
Yes! Way to go guys. What a sweet and simple camp. Thanks for sharing... 😁👍
On the ranch, WITH THE BEARD! Nice
Great video. Cool ranch!
Hey, so where is the blower door score on the container? Bet it is pretty good. Ha, ha.
Results are contained.

Christy requesting the trailer, funny 😂 but totally understandable. You gotta talk about that jeep though.

go with a 50 amp rv plug, more useful and easy to convert to 30amp if you want. You can run a welder, or hot tub off a 50amp
Go with a 50A RV plug instead of 30A. Some RVs have dual AC units and will need the extra power.
Cool
Matt I love your setup. I have a very similar setup on Copano Bay, 2 containers on slab. I need to someone to build them out.
Thanks for sharing!
I like it, nice and simple. I like how you made sure your wife has a luxurious place to stay. LOL Surprised you don't have solar there.
Matt Jr. isn't camera shy.
That kid has done a hockey interview before. For sure. Ferda
Thanks guys. Cheers.
Love it, liked it the first time i saw the property.
Work hard, play harder!
As someone who builds US Navy submarines for a living, that looks quite comfortable. Way more wood than on a nuclear powered submarine. ☺
What do you do for water? Rain collection?
You didn't show very much of the surroundings, but I could see some landscapes that looked familiar. I lived for 5 years in Kingsville when I was young.
Solar on the roof and if you’re worried about vandalism then electrify any of the access points!! Lol
EG4 mini split runs off of DC Solar
Will needs to be on TV. Natural and enjoyment to watch a father and son
Cool. Like to see more videos about the activities you enjoy out on the ranch.
Also, do you ever have border crossers taking refuge under the roof?
Let’s go, Rev. Matt!!! Happy for you brother!!
Awesome video
Hook'em Horns!
Murphy beds in barndo!
Rain water collection?
I live in Austin and I’m thinking of getting a ranch somewhere within a few hours drive. What are the best counties to look for a ranch?
is it better to go south of Austin?
South Texas is definitely one of the most beautiful parts of the Mexican countryside.
Good young man!
Make sure those bars are also locked open. Don't need anyone locking you in

PS: We have left ours winterized. It's just extra beds we needed for a winter camp last week.
Nice place.. maybe add a little solar?
Where can I get info on a new build?

does anyone ever insulate a shipping container?
What game is hunted there?
The most dangerous game 🤣
I believe Matt hunts deer, mainly. South Texas also has good dove & quail populations, too.
imagine sleeping bunk beded in an airtight flammable metal dark room

Show the Lance
Hopefully you stripped the coating off the containers. They have anti rusting agents and are carcinogenic.
You pex'ed right off of your hot water tank?
Bruh...
That's not a standard 40 footer, probably a 43 or 45 footer going by the visuals. But nice job.
Based on the lift point locations, I'm thinking 45'
Matt never show your hideouts
Why ranch, I see no evidence of animals anywhere? 😔
One can be guys, one can be girls? Bruh.

Matt has NOTHING to be ashamed about. Why don't you just keep your socialist opinions to yourself.
@davidgagnon2849 Ok, so now you are in favor of censorship. That's the real socialist.
You don’t get all this charging a fair price. I’ve been saying for years, this guys a rip off.
$1M build, GC charged 20% is $200k/home. They all make good money, everywhere!
Really? That’s rude. My company does good work and we charge fair prices. Please unsubscribe if you’re not getting value from my videos
