- Опубліковано 13 жов 2024
- Jonas Vingegaard says he understands Tadej Pogacar's desire to win and doesn't expect him to gift him any win in the Tour de France 2024. Today, he rode clear with Pogacar in Stage 20 to Col de la Couillole. #TDF

I like Jonas because he is honest.....He said that he would have done the same thing Tadej had done if he were in his shoes. True competitor.
No agree, t
esterday you were at Remco`s wheels the last kilometers and you didn't attack him at the end, you let him pass before you, that is a decent and gentlemanly attitude, but Tadej is not at your level in this terms
Today it was about a stage win and yesterday for 5th or so.Comparing apples with oranges mate.
Thats because it was the tactical no brainer. Assuming there was something in the legs of course...
probably he said probably..
@@cristianrecabarren5891Yeah, Vingeggard said he would have "probably" done the same. So it is not 100% sure. But you are not being fair comparing today's situation with yesterday's; since today they fought for the stage (is not a minor thing) Nothing to blame Pogacar here. Maybe some riders in his position wouldn't have done what he did, but I think most would. And actually Pogacar helped Vingeggard a bit, he took the lead a bit, what helped Vingeggard to increase the gap over Remco, which was his main goal.
Imagine being mad at a rider winning too much. Keep riding your best Tadej and Jonas!
thanks, Jonas. I hate these comments about Pogi. It's a competition. You're a warrior.
Agreed. Read the Bicycling magazine article from July 23, the writer says, and i concur, that JV's second place finish after the severe injuries he sustained and not competing for 3 months was perhaps the greatest performance in TDF history.💪 The guy is incredible.
What a warrior. Chapeau Jonas
I am a really big fan of Pogačar but I like Vingegaard as well. He honestly said "I would probably do it the same".
He already did the same. ..
He is a great champion.. chapeau..see you next year 💪
hahahah he only won cause pogi was hurt he never been close if not. You see noone respect him Evenpoel even said what every cycle fan thought he is a wheelsucker with no balls haha🤣
@@Michael_J218 i cheer Tadej POGACAR..he s great..but respect for Jonas Vingegaard
@@81enri why ? i respect other riders more than vingegaard. His passive agressive style in media, way he rides wheelsuck. What part is it you think it respectful?
Such an inspiration this guy. It brought me back on my racebike, after injuries and months of backpain. Thank you, Jonas.
While I admire Jonas’ riding, I thought him to be somewhat boring. After hearing so many thoughtful and interesting interviews from him this year and combined his comeback from injury, his personality is shining through. He doesn’t need me as a fan but I am now and can’t wait to see a healthy Jonas in future competitions.
Class act. I’m officially routing for Jonas now.
After the horrific crash Jonas had earlier this year, he is victorious for simply being present in the Tour de France.
He's victorious for being in 2nd place after all that, no doubt. Amazing effort.
Absolute respect for Jonas Vingeegard
Humble and honest 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
When I saw Jonas waiting for Tadej after he went wide and crashed in a corner like 2 tours ago I knew the kind of man he is..im proud to be his fan... Also utmost respect for Tadej he took the L's like a champ... Its his time now
It was a nice gesture, but let's put it into context... It was in Jonas' interest to have Pog with him esp. on the flats
@@issahgyandi3365 he had two teammates ahead of them at that moment. Tactically, he should have kept going to bridge to his teammates and extend the lead. Which makes the gesture of waiting extra graceful.
That is unwritten rule....
I think that Pogi "started" wirh this fair play stuff. In tdf 2021 he didn't help Carapaz when he was getting rid of Jonas on that mountain climb (and by doing/not doing that Jonas was "allowed" to make a comeback). I even remember that first thing Jonas did (even though he was gasping for air) was to shake hand with Pogi. Typical Jonas - classy as f***.
RESPECT TO JONAS!
A true sportsman
Its crazy how strong Tadej is this year. Its like not even close to the others when he goes. Also Jonas had 1 month of preperation because of the horrifying crash, so you cant really blame him for not following Tadej.
Well, his competition is on like 1 months prep after a horrible accident. He wouldn't be this far in front if Jonas was healthy.
That said, I think Tadej is on a different level this year. Physically but more importantly, his tactics and teamwork has been flawless.
@@Real28 jonas is also missing an xfactor in kuss cause he is by far the mountain domestique there is… jonas tdf victories are half his as well, same as roglices vuelta 😁
How Tadej has improved compared to previous years is incomprehensible
@@Real28 Tactics has improved i agree seems like UAD riders are much stronger than TVL this year.
@@Fobber1980 yeah but is also helps when u have steonger team which visma had last 2 years
It's the TdF. You cannot ask anyone to give you the win. The better should win is a simple rule that Jonas understands fully. Appreciate.
Yes and nobody knows for sure that Tadej would have this chance to win 5 stages again. He's like Sagan, a competitor who takes the sport seriously.
Jonas should feel like a boss. I never liked him but he won me over this year
same
Same thing here
2 true champions able to admit defeat like warriors and die standing
It bogles my mind how a human body can go from what we saw at the top of Isola 2000-a completely empty and exhausted Jonas-to what he was able to do today just 24 hours later.
If I did one quarter of the ride they did today at my ftp, I would be toast for days. 😬
It's been great watching these guys this year. And in years past. They are both gentlemen who respect and seemingly like each other. Fierce competitors, but decent guys.
It’s a competition. It’s the Tour De France.I wouldn’t expect anyone to sit up for anybody else. Wishing Jonas the best for a full recovery and see you next year, hopefully!
A true warrior respect Jonas.
For Tadej Pogacar to achieve greatness and the Tour Double he needed to be Challenged by another Champion like Jonas Vingegaard
What a lovely guy
Incredible TDF because of you. All of them fantastic
ive got a lot more respect for jonas after this TDF... hope he comes back stronger next year
You see a true champion not when he's winning, but when he has to admit that someone is better. It was the case for Tadej last year and this year it's on Jonas to do so. I think both are growing on that (Tadej actually did and so will Jonas). I do respect that so much.
There are a bit difrence tho i mean breaking serveral ribs and colapsed a lung and break a collarbone is not the same as breaking a hand…you Can still do many things with a broken hand and still train a bit like you Saw Tadej did you cant train with broken ribs and a colapsed lung and collarbone..so yeah in my case Its not the same..
VINNY is a Class act!!!
Next year should be a dog fight between these two.
1:39 we are Happy that your recovery yesterday brought you back to be a competitor with Tadej
Bicycling magazine published an article on July 23 saying that Ving's second place finish after sustaining serious injuries and not competing for three months leading up to the tour was probably the greatest performance in the history of the TDF. I would agree.
Great race today. Jonas is right. And would have done the same if it was reverse. These guys get paid to win. Not to give it to someone else. This year's Tour has been great to watch. I've been watching TDF for over 30 years. One of the best sports to watch is bicycling, in my opinion.
You are the best. A true warrior.
Such a great person, champion and gentleman
Sad to see this iconic tour come to an end Sunday. But that was a very exciting TdF!
Yes it was!
Capeau Jonas! You are a great and fair champion and you have a wonderful personality!
Who do i give my number one vote to Jonas Vingegaard for sure 100%.
Why are people expecting someone to just give a stage to a competitor? He’s done that in the past with his team mates playing rock paper scissors. But to expect to give it to someone is ridiculous.
Para mi el mejor como atleta y como persona, tuvo la mala suerte de la caída este año pero el ke viene volverá más fuerte
They are both brilliant well done to them jv has been incredible considering what he has been through
Jonas is a great athlete ❤
I think there is something else explaining why Pogacar hsrdly collaborated with Vingeggard on that attack: Pogacar has serious chances to win tomorrow, so not giving it all today was intelligent. I think he collaborated a bit to be sure they caught Carapaz and Más, so that he would have a chance to win. But no reason to do much more than that. Vingeggard, obviously had more at stake today, and is smart enough to know.
Well said Jonas👍👍👍
What a competator
Jonas will be back and well prepared next year. You already see it in his eyes. And after this stage he got a lot of extra motivation to beat Remco at the TT.
Amazing
True champs both of them ❤
How come there are so many ridiculous comments about giving out wins?? It's racing, kids, not charity so just stop crying.
„I was hopping he give it to me“, me to!
Jonas...true gentleman
Is sepp kuss participating in this year's vuelta?
yes
class from jonas, he wouldnt want tadej to gift him a win and he also wouldnt want knowing that tadej helped him in battle with remco. The only thing tadej could do is maybe get in the front 300-500m before he did, then it would be more fair
Classy
To all the Jonas' fans complaining, there you go! Even Jonas himself said , yes he hoped but if the situation was reversed he would do the same. He accepted his defeat humbly.
IMO we should stop giving participation medals to kids in school to get rid of this thinking.
When you can win it , win it all
TRUE. He doesn't like it. but he'd do the same. Respect.
Didn’t like Jonas much thh. But I’m becoming a huge fan. Classy!
I remember the gifts Jumbo Visma handed out to Pog last year…oh wait. Nothing wrong with Pog going for the win today
@@chrisbrodroy1183 absolutely right. All this talk of Tadej not giving the stage when last year vismo teamed up and did not give an inch..
Show me the stage where Jonas already had a 5 minute gap on GC and let himself get pulled up the final climb by his competitor and waited until 150 m to go to outsprint him
@@biggestfanofroger Impossible, Jonas can't outsprint Pogi

It's a bike race. People expecting the faster rider to "gift a win" are insane.
Pog did not come to the tour to give gifts or make overtures to fellow cyclists 😂😂
Agree. I don’t understand letting another competitor win. That’s condescending IMO.
@@glizzy9596 Yes, but you have to put it into a contex why he waited? He waited for a fellow comming down from the hill to support him.
@@glizzy9596He also waited for Pogacar because it was in his favour to have him in the flat. Sure, it was a nice gesture but not more, it was useful for him to have Pogacar by his side, but to know that you’d actually have to watch races and not just highlights.
@@glizzy9596 Don’t remember asking.
@@glizzy9596 nope , it is not! sportmanship is to win everything while you can , giving candies to a rival like he is a baby is disrespectful
Unpopular opinion, it was pretty tacky to sprint ahead. There are no gifts, sure, but finish half a wheel in front of Jonas take the win, and show a bit of humility.
Why does Matt Steven’s think he doesn’t have to ware a mask , Tour / UCi should punish him . Totally disrespectful.
Didn't realize he punctured BOTH lungs. No wonder he spent 12 days in hospital.
A a Dane I am routing for Jonas, but I am truly convinced that he - and everyone else - is no competitor for Tadej the coming years. It's gonna be the same story and outcome the next five years at least (Tadej's only 25)
would he give stages away, I think not !!! Did he need to put over 7 minutes on one stage last year ??? did not hear any negative comments about it last year !!!!
I find it hard to believe that Jonas would have done the same.
remember Ving was attacking his teammate and race leader Kuss for stage wins in the Vuelta.
He’s a pro
I would do the same? He did the same thing in 2023 and 2022.
He actually waited for Tadej in 2022 when he crashed. That's something I thing Tadej has never done to an opponent.
Vinga’s manipulative mind would never do something like that. Get some proper facts about why he “waited “ Pogi .. 😁 🗑️ @@HatRock
@@HatRock He waited for Geraint Thomas when he crashed at Giro. Jonas only waited Pogachar so that he could drive behind him during the descend. That was no Samaritan move.

@@FloBikes I have forgotten about that!!! You're absolutely right. Actually, if I remember correctly, he attacked Kuss (his own teammate) at least twice.
Its racing.. if you want to win... work for it
what's happened in la vuelta imho is farcical.. how can we have a rac to decide the winner of arguarbly one if the three biggest most prestigious and important races in cycling without either of the riders who were favourites to win it?..........................I'm Galician (Spanish) and sadly i have decided to boycott watching this years race.....whoever made this ludicuos decision is frankly devaluing the event.. what's even less logical is that winning all 3 tours in 1 season would be a remarkable acheivement, and for Pogacar at least the possibility of this was so close he could almost taste it......that's tbh sad.
We know he would do the same. He never tried anything else himself. Pogi giving Jonas a cookie of his own dough.
I beg to differ, my young friend. You wouldn't be so cruel. I don't think you'd stay behind, all the while capable of overcoming everyone like a train engine, look around as if in fear and expectation when only two remained, just to casually accelerate as if you were at the beginning of the stage, not a stone's throw away from the finishing line.
It's about Pogacar wanting to win and also do his job for the team he's paid to do.
And remember Ving was attacking his teammate and race leader Kuss for stage wins in the Vuelta.

You dont want to get wins gifted to you by your biggest rival. Its almost kinda disrespect if he wouldnt try his best. I see no reason why Tadej should have not go for the win today, he already didnt took any time to Jonas he could have for sure gained more time on jonas if he wanted to.
Jonas will bounce back on this more stronger. He is a gentleman , more so than Pogacar. Jonas will remember this. He waited for him when he crash. It's not gonna happen again!
Pogacar compliments Jonas all the time. Versus Jonas who said that he „hopes“ that Tadej will crack. A true sportsman doesn’t pray on the downfall of his competitor.
@@Elu_ahah It's easy to compliment others when you are doing better than them. If you are the one competing against a dominant force, you would also hope that he cracks so you can win.
@@vitusbystedmller3501 Then watch his interview last year after stage 17 (the stage in which he cracked). Even after losing the TdF, he still thanks his team mates and says that he’s grateful to have such support. He doesn’t only do this when he wins, he ALWAYS thanks his team and talks respectful about other riders.
Also, there is a huge difference between hoping that your enemy will crack and admitting it publicly. I don’t think Jonas is a bad sportsman, I just used a previous example to write the narrative the other way around.
@@Elu_ahah Last year Pogi cracked because of Visma's strategy of a hard race every day... That was their plan from the start to make Pogi crack in the third week... So it ought to be obvious that they hope that Pogi will crack as it is their plan... That is part of the sport... Saying 'A true sportsman doesn’t pray on the downfall of his competitor' is just stupid... It would be right if Jonas hoped for Pogi to crash og have a mecanical, that would be bad sportsmanship
Tadej is just stronger in this race. He's not going to start squeezing his brakes, just to give this rival team wins.
Unfortunately there can be only one.
The fact is, Visma used for years dirty tactics, not battling, but weaken the other rider, isolating him, tiring him out, waiting that the sun exposure his weakness to heat, everything that helps winning was allowed. Furthermore, the last stage is a time trial. Thus, why he expects presents❓An apex predator against another one. Still, if there would be no final time trial, maybe he would get the present. But a time trial at the end is wild, one puncture, one mechanical, you can loose it all. Consequently, a bigger time gap is a life insurance.Anyhow, in this Tour, I am not sure whether Tadel or Jonas is the true champ. Jonas must have worked so hard, fighting three weeks, what a great story; surely the next Netflix story.
I did the same
People critisising atheletes for trying to win, should watch WWE.
I bet Jonas took this personally, see how this narrative play out going into next year
What is it with my favorite sport? In what other sport is it disrespectful to dominate? Should the other players in the NBA have told Michael Jordan to stop playing so hard and winning so many championships. Should the other 400 meter hurdlers have complained when Edwin Moses was on his 100 meet winning streak because it is disrespectful for him to keep beating them. Should Tiger Woods have stopped winning so many majors because it is disrespectful? How about Serena Williams? Simone Biles? Michael Phelps? Are these athletes disrespectful for winning so much? NO ONE HAS THE RIGHT TO DICTATE TO TADEJ HOW HE SHOULD RACE. It is such nonsense. how about this: Just compete. Get better. Beat him because you were better and not because you asked him to purposely lose a race.
Ok I will attempt to answer. Cycling in stage races is as much about raw power as it is political..the peloton is a family. Tadej no matter how strong he is needs his team and needs other teams to win. They scratch each others back all the time which is why it is interesting to watch the alliances in breakaways and chases also why a win by VC means more than a win by JP . If you can.. watch stage 19 of the 2011 Giro.
Then watch the vuelta the next year 2012 stage 17.
You reap what you sow. Tadej will receive exactly the same treatment and he will feel it very bad. Not that he should give wins, but that attack attitude with all his force was a little too much when he knew Jonas wasn't going to respond. I mean, you can see it in Jonas' face when Tadej attacked, it was like "whatever...".
Jonas...you will not do the same...last time you waited for him when he crashed😮
Begging for win 🥵😳
It's about Pogacar wanting to win and also do his job for the team he's paid to do.
And remember Ving was attacking his teammate and race leader Kuss for stage wins in the Vuelta.
Next year he will arrive also behind Remco, Ayuso and Pellizzari.!!
No Jonas, you would not have done the same, you are a real gentleman. Yesterday you were at Remco`s wheels the last kilometers and you didn't attack him at the end, you let him pass before you, that is a decent and gentlemanly attitude, but Tadej is not at your level in this terms
He did the same last year.
You can’t compare racing for a stage win versus racing for 5th position😂
Only in cycling can something considered cheating be called gentlemanly conduct. Imagine if a football team lost on purpose and didn't give 100%. It would be called what it is, cheating.
Jonas didn‘t do the same ever. He never had the yellow jersey by five minutes and let himself get pulled up a climb by his competitor only to outsprint him in the last 150m
It's not about just being friendly in the gentleman, but about winning bike races and sport.Because remember that so many people are invested in this team and the captain, and so much money goes into it. In the last 2 years, they put in the money and the time investment and did not get success. So they're making the most of this year because who knows if they can do the same again.
He waited for Pogi after he crashed 2 years ago.. Pogi should have given him the win today..
He waited because Kuss and van Aert were behind. He wasn't doing a favour.
