I was just there last night with my son for the Midnight showing of Spiderman. The apartments were so sunny and full of light. Working there as a teenager remains one of my favorite jobs of all time...As many fond memories as I have from there, though, she was a tired old building who needed to be reinvented. The new place is exquisite and will last so much longer. I know it is going to be one of my son's greatest memories....Thanks for posting!
For those who do not enjoy this kind of thing I feel for you. This is happening all the time in the UK and soon there will be nothing left at all except modern ugliness.
Sadly the building was demolished due to poor construction methods back then. Built on top of a 1800’s burned Tannery building. Over decades the building started sinking into ground causing a public health risk at the end. Toilets no longer drained, huge cracks in titled floors etc… engineers were paid for assessment of the building and soil as we wanted to save it. It would have cost millions for pilings and with no guarantee the building would not sink further. It was a heartbreaking decision… I spent a lot of my youth at the old theater. Rocky Horror! We did rebuild and kept it very old-time theater feel.
