How do I know if a video is covering beginner, intermediate or advanced material? Is the resource page used for putting the material I consumed in, or should I put that material under the different stages?
Hey Great question! So I would say it comes down to the challenge and what that “community” deems those levels. So it’s not set in stone per-say. If you are a beginner you are unfamiliar with almost anything. But as you learn beginner things, you can tell if something is WAY out of your league (goes in the advanced category) or if something is just a few tutorials away (goes in intermediate category.) These videos can be moved around also as you learn more. (For example something you thought was deemed advanced on guitar is actually an intermediate skill so you move it), The labels are irrelevant really but it’s just a good way to organize it. But again, the community will typically dictate your level. You can technically name them whatever you want, as long as the core idea is there and you have some organization. Guitar example can be 1. Trash 2. Decent 3. Kinda good 4. Really Good 5. Godlike Hope that make sense, Labels are just for you to organize your thoughts. 👌
And resources can be things like a textbook type material, Where you don’t actually read it front to back, but just choose chapter when you need it. Like a comprehensive list of guitar scales on a website for example.
@@eliserobinson8240 many times you don't know until you've tried to consume some part of the materials you're learning. Then if it's too hard, you leave them be, after a while, if you get back, they'll make more sense
Thank you guys! 🙏 I have no attachment to UA-cam money since I think it’s better to do that with something more stable. Like software engineering in my case. Plus I think it keeps me honest Lol.
Learning Japanese, guitar, piano and software engineering...are you my soulmate? This is exactly what I'm trying to learn right now edit: omg guys the comment section 💜💜💜💜💜💜🤣🔥🔥
Lol who knows, & That's cool you have the same exact interests as me, which means my examples will be quite relatable to you as I make more videos. Hopefully you can draw a lot from them.
Those specific skills are very useful to be fair. I know like 4 people who are all doing that exact same collection of skills and we all talk about it a lot because we’re all at varying skill levels at each of them 😂😂😂
Iv suffered from “shiny object syndrome” most my life and is why I have been so slow with my progress. Always changing direction thinking theres a better direction. Frustrating! Helpful video thank you!
5:27 Bruce Lee quote perfectly matches your train of thought - I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times
100%, when you want to fulfil yr passion so bad, u automatically get off yr arse and just practice it. You cant wait for the studying/learning part to be over so u can just enjoy yr craft/skill. Im at that stage now. Im learning classical Indian dance, 8 years in. Fully self taught by simply emulating youtube dancers and choreographies, Im dancing almost on the daily and if I miss my training, Im suffering. If you need external motivation or are procrastinating in executing your plans then maybe that skill isnt for you and its time to look for something that does spark that passion from within you.
1% of your progress comes from study...the other 99% comes from actually practicing. Beautifully put man. Fully agree. Took me almost a decade to discover this myself. Glad to see youre spreading the word
UNDERSTAND THAT ONE VIDEO STUDIED AND ACTED UPON TO ITS FULLEST EXTENT CAN BE WORTH THOUSANDS OF HOURS OF SEARCHING THROUGH MATERIAL AND NOT STUDYING OR APPLYING IT. Oh the clarity this brings
As a teacher myself, I wanted to give kudus where kudus is deserved! One more layer to add is building in a face-to-face community around that particular skill. If it's playing an instrument, try to play with other people FOR other people. If it's cooking, then try to cook for your friends. Even coding benefits from the community aspect--the rhetorical relationship you have with other creators and the audience. Studies have shown that learning is amplified in groups--even if everyone isn't like-minded (especially so).
this is a very good point! it really helps with focus in my experience and the knowledge you exchange and accrue doing so is brilliant. its very motivating to be with people who are facing the same roadblocks as you
Not all curriculum is set up this way. All of my fast track classes are online only because many people are working at the same time. So, it's not always possible to meet with other people or students.
If anything joining an online group helps too. Or just chatting with like minded people on reddit, quora, or comments sections like this Lol. It’s not ‘manditory’ but it helps for sure.
Yeah I can get into that sometime for sure, I guess I moreso don't want people to feel like that are 'doomed' if they don't have access to a community. But yeah I do think it's something worth talking about as you mentioned! Really good points!
I’m a chronic researcher to the point where It’s far less likely I practice rather than study. You become very knowledgeable but have few skills. This video is very helpful to me thank you
You've made me realize that I've been in "Tutorial Hell" with so many aspects of my life. I've never watched a video or consumed a self-help book that was so actionable. Great content this the most clarity I've had in a while!
The social media detox helps me a lot. After deactivating my soc acs, I'm starting to get bored. That boredom turn into doomscrolling in yt. And I got hit by depression because of that. When you know that your not doing something but you can't still do it. After 1 week, I decided to hide my phone. Then boredom again. After a long long hit. I just feel it. So I started studying again. Right now, I study al lot of thing. I don't give myself time to get bored that will turn into doomscrolling. When I get bored, I try to do some crochet. When i got sleepy after hrs of studying, I try to do crochet again. If I'm panicking even I do things, instead of watching videos on yt. I will go for a 10 mins walk, or make a coffee or stare to nothing. That's what my every day life. And I'm getting better than my past self. I don't know if my yapping does make a sense lol. But yeah, btw these are the thing i study. 1. Web design, front and back end 2. Arduino 3. Learning computer from hardware to software 4. Crochet I'll also want to try video editing and writing scripts. But when it comes yo resources, my laptop can't do it rn. But yeah. Thats all 😂
Really good you started doing that. That's actually kind of what I do too. I have a room in my house where I just sit down and breath. Then I get the spark to go practice something. 100x better than scrolling. Your yapping is very useful for people to see Lol thanks for sharing.
If you don't mind me asking, how does one do it? I know that the first step is just basically DELETE & replace it with other habits that one might benefit but like what about those times where you're done with those habits and literally got nothing else to do? I, basically made the habit that when I'm bored or got literally nothing else to do, is when I basically doom scroll! Sorry for this naive question but how does one start and stick too it as having more time is better then wasting it on IG n stuffs!
The internet is a blessing in disguise I'm really thankful from the People who shares their knowledge for free. You just have to find the right mentor and learn from them.

I am a high school student, learning to code, teaching myself math, and working out. I'm just trying to do better in general. 10:27 Great advice. Thank you.
that is awesome, by the time you are my age you'll pretty much be able to take over the world. I was so lost in high school Lol. Keep it up though!, you'll probably feel out of place for most of your life but it will pay off well in the long run.
@Nobody-ht6hq how are you teaching yourself math? I'm trying to get into mathematics but I find it intimidating and daunting.... Anyway happy for you knowing what you want and getting it
@@swiftgenius8216 Hey there! I totally get that math can feel intimidating, but it's all part of the learning journey. I'd suggest picking up a math book that really grabs your interest and working through all the examples and exercises. UA-cam can be super helpful for getting a better grasp of the topics. You might want to check out channels like "The Math Sorcerer" and "Bprp Fast" to keep things fun and interesting while you dive into math. Good luck!

School is there for basic and some advance knowledge. Think of it as a foundation. Too many people are disregarding the fundamental things we learnt at school. Teachers I feel should each be equipped to deal with different students learning types in order to get the best out of students.
@@imthatbee2024 Yep that's true, I got good grades in every subject before going to the self-taught route and despite the lack of resources that are relevant to my strand (STEM), our teachers taught us with great detail and I can see the passion in them when they deliver their words to the students.
People don’t realize that an entire UA-cam video is usually half a class at a school or university lecture. Remember that classes are a year or half a year long and come with homework or lessons that you hate! Festina Lente
@@rasheedlewis1 I never thought of it that way before watching this video. It explains why I've been channel surfing for more information. I'm not really retaining anything in a 5 minute video. Thank you for being this up.
This is a great way to learn as a self teaching student. This is how I began my photography. Learned the basic technicalities of camera settings, then elements of composition, technical lighting and posing. Even to this day I still watch videos about the basics, 6 years into my journey.
1. Programming 2. Videography/Post processing/editing 3. Guitar 4. Japanese and Russian 5. Drawing 6. Tattooing 7. Comedy Bit Writing 8. Music Production 9. Trophy Truck Suspension Engineering 10. HVAC repair My current obsessions. 😢
@@vaughngeneHi! My question would be if you have more than one interest would you recommend focusing on one for a longer time instead of all of them simultaneously? Like were you learning guitar, piano, japanese at the same time? It's also hard to see how I can make time for all of them.
Honestly you've been one of the few reliable Self Improvement UA-camrs, No "Sigma" BS or whatever they say, Just straight to the point content. You saved me from "Self Improvement" Hell, Gotta love these smaller creators Kudos to you my guy

Biggest pit fall for learning anything online is tutorial hell truly having structure helps loads along with mindset and actually enjoying what it is you want to get good at because when having fun we are actively engaged compared to when bored. Id also like to express take at least one day off a week i feel a lot of people try and go all in and burn themselves out our brains need breaks especially when learning
I’ve been talking guitar lessons from excellent teacher, he has a real good ear to pick out the guitar, licks and can transpose any instrument to guitar etc, it’s his EGO Its HARD FOR ME TO DEAL WITH!!!! I said all that to say this: I’ve taken several months off from taking lessons and besides l know the basics of how to go about ear training, chords etc what he showed me, I’ll eventually go back to guitar lessons but for right now l practice what I’ve learned and incorporate new stuff etc
@@larryherbert252 there’s good online teachers that can identify things through zooms Eventually I’ll teach guitar myself once I’m good Lol But yeah do what you can for now! Sounds like you are already on it though 👌
I learn how to swim in 1 day by myself from watching video on UA-cam . One of the best thing I keep is understand the process and upgrades what you just learn . Now I try to speak Russian , UA-cam is one of the greatest creation of the century.
As someone who gave up from trying to learn how to draw on my own for almost 8 years (with super slow improvements..) Thanks. You just gave me a reason to try again.
Such an underrated concept and great video. I’m one of those people who have such a wide array of interests and I actually have a good work ethic, but too often find myself in that directionless, overwhelemed and distracted state. This is going to be so helpful in this age
Yes absolutely, I felt that exact same way until I made this realization, so you’ll get a lot of results moving forward. All this info is a blessing but also a curse Lol
There's definitely a huge benefit in setting a limit to the resources and focusing more on the application of said resources. The amount of videos being produced each day is impossible to keep up with and that leads to overwhelm and procrastination. Great video, great message.
This is EXACTLY what I needed to open my eyes. I have a habit of constantly gathering study material which then gives me a satisfaction of having done something but I don't actually use that material to the fullest.
For me, the hardest part is getting over the nature of those short little 10 minute videos. Videos that are a summation of hundreds or thousands of hours, and that the creators just drop their skills as a set of steps so matter-of-factly. Though it makes sense from the perspective of a teacher as well. When I try to teach my friends something like throwing knives, or juggling, it almost seems impossible to empathize with them because I find it hard to imagine a world where I can't just *feel* how the knife should flow, or *feel* where the next ball is going to land. Quite trippy, lol.
A lot of it is just the coming to terms with the amount of deliberate practice one needs to put in. I do think videos could do a far better job at explicitly saying this, including me Lol. But I hope to make that a normal thing moving forward.
I have formal education and a professional degree but in reality learning how to learn is the greatest skill one could possess to develop competency especially after finishing a formal degree or learning program. It’s impressive that at a seemingly young age you have figured out how to teach yourself anything you want to learn. You also made an astute point at about 4:25 mark. We need to be PATIENT. A five minute video may have material that takes 1 week or a year to learn. Therefore, watch, learn, practice and implement and then observe, relearn and repeat the cycle. You will do great work.
I have FOMO and had a history of martial arts. When i got injured, this discipline was transferred to my guitar playing, so the balance shifted. Deliberate repetition is key. Do one movement/riff/partial riff for 50 times till you get it right. Frequently doomscrolling or YT shorts got the best of me, but no more. The info and advice that you said and repeated is gold. Love your humbleness! Peace and purpose to you!
Nice! And definitely agree, I will be getting into that subject in the future. Repetition and deliberate practice, Rather than these lazy clickbait methods. And thank you! Happy to see you can take some control again!
I have been learning Spanish myself with Duolingo and my partner for over a year now. It never occurred to me to structure my learning the way colleges do. You are a genius, my guy. A fucking genius. Thanks for sharing this and changing the way I do things.
I think the most important thing is to love to learn and to be curious. If you have that, you will learn things and be good at them because that’s all you want to do. I am like that, I know that I can be interested in one thing and dive into it night and days for months, years, decades. Ultimately you become good at them
Hearing you were able to teach yourself so many stuffs all of which are within my interest range as well, was so inspiring. I want to know and learn EVERYTHING TOO HAHA and it was overwhelming as I bounced from one to the next. I'll take this one video seriously and keep coming back to it :)) Might even put edits of my progress if I'm comfy? Thank you, Vaughn!
Awesome! It really looks like there’s a lot of us with these same interests Lol, so I’m glad the info helps. And future comments would be cool for updating! Idk if I’ll be able to keep up with them all as the channel grows but I’ll definitely try to Lol.
Thanks so much for taking the time to make this & the short! I have Sickle Cell Anemia & have been home since October 2019. I started learning to draw & watercolor paint in November 2019. I made great progress, but after spending 3-6 months straight in the hospital & the remaining time at home in bed for 4 years, I broke mentally. I'm from a family of teachers. I love learning & it's why I threw myself into learning a new skill when I couldn't do anything else. I'm finally in both a decent mental & physical space. I've leaned heavily on my faith to find purpose in pain. Yet I'm struggling to dive back into learning again. I'm scared I lost all of my progress & I'm now just collecting various books, courses & YT videos. I can't figure out how to balance & organize my life. Thanks for reminding me that I probably have acquired every resource I need. I just need to stop wasting time searching, get organized & complete my tasks.
Hey really glad this helps! And wish you the best with your health too. I think a lot of this stuff feel better once you start to have some results! So use what you have.
Finally someone who gets me. I already speak two languages. I learned one in college. I’m currently a singer/songwriter/actress. I practice BJJ whenever I have the budget. I practice yoga consistently. And I’m trying to get a remote job in tech so I can travel so I’m taking a course. And I’m trying to lose weight! So much in one lifetime 😩
Oh nice, That’s definitely a stack of different things too, all of which are difficult. I find that the more diverse it is, the more confused you tend to be until you figure things Lol. Keep it up though!

Although i am in comp sci right now, practicing taekwondo at home currently but i plan to get into a dojo once i finish college so that i can redirect our budget there instead xD Also want to learn music too, especially electric/bass guitar. And yeah improv and theater for sure. Def on my list of conquering
People often tell me I'm overdoing it learning Korean, Spanish, guitar, piano, and software engineering/XR development, and I sometimes worry if they're right, even though I feel like I can balance it all pretty well with a bit more improvement on my management. It's so helpful to see I'm not the only one with so many aspirations & hobbies! These tips are really great! ✨️

I teach myself everything I want to learn. It started in high school when I realized I don’t learn well from others. I learn better when I teach myself so I went to independent studies and graduated all As and 1 D (in math but that’s passing in California) 2 months earlier than the rest of my class of 2018. So far, I’ve taught myself languages (speak 7 so far but learning 6 more), instruments (4 instruments), workouts/sports, skills in tech and medicine, video editing and photo editing, spiritual practices, etc.
Daaang! When you are ready, the teacher appears 😁 I sooo needed this! It felt like you were speaking to me directly. Thank you, thank you for this. I'm currently learning piano, play some guitar and exploring creative writing but haven't made any significant roadmap. I've been all over the place, not made any progress in any one of them, but now have a roadmap, to pick one thing and stick to it. I can finally relax knowing I'm not going to be missing out on anything when I stick to one thing.
It took so much effort to watch your video without scrolling or getting distracted. It’s not you, you’re easy to listen to. It’s me!!! I need to practice focusing on one thing and sustain that focus.
Acknowledging that is a lot though!, and I’d say don’t stress it too much. Focus in the general term, is a matter of ‘re-focusing’ after you get distracted. That’s how I see it at least. I’ll talk about this someday here!
I relate with these ideas, I also have been trapped in watching a lot of 'theory / best techniques' videos on UA-cam. But recently, I started running and forced myself to put less time in the theory stuff. The journey had been more pleasant so far and I got good progress. Keep up with the videos, they are interesting and bring good value

Very well-spoken, sir. It has been helpful to me, in how I have learned since I was approx. 11, teaching "myself" how to play the piano, organ, and drums...now I am 65. The biggest criteria or ingredient is FOCUS!!!
Yeah once you get results, You'll realize there is no extra video or thing you need. Just moving on one item does a lot. It's hard but in due time you realize the truth. Here is a video a bit more on Shiny Object Syndrome too, ua-cam.com/video/YWfi3WzTIxs/v-deo.htmlsi=zfVsu2IfwAPp-uCQ
I have always wanted to play the violin but could never afford lessons or a violin for that matter. For my birthday this year my friend bought me a violin and I've been teaching myself since by watching UA-cam videos however I didn't know how to structure my learning process which was quite frustrating so thank you very much for this video. It has given me a clearer view of the path I should take and has really given me the confidence that I can learn on my own. Thank you! 😊
As someone who considers herself a jack of all trades but a master of none, this really helped me put things into perspective!! I love this video!! Thank you for your tips!!
This is the exact experience I’ve had trying to learn how to play the guitar. I watched the 10 minute beginner video and felt like it should take me only 10 minutes to master. I got frustrated and stopped and haven’t picked up my guitar since. I’ve told myself the story that I need a teacher but this makes so much sense and I will pick up the video again with the insight you’ve shared. Thank you for your perspective.
Yeah I really wish that more 'teachers' would REALLY express that it takes a while to get the reps in. Even the major scale for example. It takes 5 minutes to run through it in all 12 keys from the chart. But that takes months to memorize and really get it under your fingers. I will make a guitar course years from now and I really want to make that the main point of it. the tutorial really is 1% of the equation.
This is the most helpful video I’ve seen on UA-cam in years. I want to learn my motorcycle, Spanish, guitar, art, and piano!!! I want to learn way more things like Japanese and such but I know these other things aren’t as real-world applicable as the things in my list.

Just got recommended this video today. There's a lot of things I want to try but right now the thing I'm focusing on (besides school) is origami. I've already made a couple things but I decided to get started on making a custom course today. Right now I sort of wanted to outline the two extremes of difficulty, so I set one video for what I thought is the easiest thing (eg a 5 minute lotus flower on youtube) and one for what I think is the hardest (eg a rabbit designed by Gen Hagiwara, there's a 45 min video on yt that blew my mind), and I'll spend most of my time in between those two extremes.
Very nice, it's comforting when you finally dive into one video and just get moving on your results. And origami is sick, it's something I wanted to get into someday also actually.
I am so glad I clicked on this video. I don't really have anything substantial to say, but just want to leave a comment to tell you how grateful I am for this video
thanks for not saying that not being able to learn on your own is a symptoms of laziness or stupidity. I often overwhelm myself with information constantly jumping from things from excitement and desire to progress which then obviously leads to not having the best foundations. I really enjoyed your video
I've been feeling overwhelmed by UA-cam content and having so many things I want to learn. This was really helpful information and also calming. I came away from this video feeling more organized in my own mind and capable of learning the things I want to learn. Thank you for your videos. Keep up the great work ❤️
Your advice is spot on. I find myself constantly searching for the next tutorial that will be the magic one when I just really need to start practicing.
I started building a tiny house last year. Starting out, I had very minimal basic diy experience, but after facing each task head on, using UA-cam as a guide, I've overcame many challenges that I avoided due to being intimidated. I've learned a lot and am still learning. But once knowledge is acquired, it makes all future decisions go by so much quicker and more accurate. Sometimes you have to face your problems to get better. Don't let your problems deter you from your ability to tackle them.
Dude, this is exactly what I needed to watch. I am so overwhelmed on the plethora of info online, free or paid and yet I had no sense of direction. Organizing like the way you showed makes things so much more simple. I also have to trust the process and not worry about the next thing, lesson, or other resources otherwise I would become stressed out and scatterbrained all over again. Thank you so much.
I really loved how sincere and straightforward you were and yet caring. Thank you! I think this video will help me to get more organized. I was always trying to categorize things but ended up confused. I have a clearer vision now how to work on my hobbies and work. Appreciate your video and I followed you. I already want to watch another video on "multiple hobbies' but decided to implement the idea from the video and place the link into the category. I used to do it subconsciously but now it is getting conscious. :)
glad you mentioned this because i’ve realized that this is the only way to go. currently working on swimming, and i’ve gotten so much further than where i was when I first started. my swim teacher helped for about two weeks, and she just told me “you’ve got this. don’t be afraid”. after getting over myself, I took the chance and started going to the pool consistently and took on structured plans i found on the internet. I can now go about 200m non stop at a moderate pace, after being unable to float or crawl past 5ft. It’s really challenging, but i’ve never felt more in tune with how much potential I have, if only I put myself out there
Nice! That’s a lot of progress too, I used to do scuba diving in the Navy, so there was a small bit of swimming but mostly floating. But to learn 200m at a pace from only being able to float is really good. Doesn’t sound like much to the average person but that’s a lot Lol.
Your video resonates well with my strategies. What also helps for me (especially for the beginner phase) is just a course book (works better for academic topics, but also for other stuff). It forces you more towards the fact that the real work is mostly done offline. And it avoids the rabbit hole youtube.
This video is very helpful. I never thought about breaking anything down in phases. I am interested in learning so many things in different field such as blockchain technology, cloud computing, data science, astrology, energy healing, cosmology, option trading, machine learning, augmented reality, gaming, and product development.
Bro, the fact that i have severe ADHD if i could show you how many projects i have and yet i got overwhelmed by me taking too much information. You literally spoke directly to me thank you so much. Im literally like you im gonna sit down and do my first task on the list and im gonna put any other sources of information away till i can move on to the next step. Not many people acknowledge my comments and its ok if this one is added to the list. I just want you to know this video was exactly what i needed.
I feel blessed to have found this video, and this channel overall. After watching this I have to say guilt is filling my soul, hours wasted, endless UA-cam videos saved to be watched later to find out it was useless in the end. I’m going to take in board what you shared and see what happens. Bless you and thank you
It happens, and happens to everyone so it's apart of it. I've been in UA-cam hell before too for a long time so I'm no stranger to it. Glad this helps!
I don't usually comment on videos, but this is the exact information I needed to hear. I've plateaued as a musician, overwhelmed by too much content and not having structure to what I need to learn next. Taking the time to design a curriculum and organising available content into your own course is incredibly useful, and just adding this stage of planning can change everything.
I’ve heard it said there’s two modes of learning, equally important. Input, and output. As you said we often give ourselves and information overload, input, without ever taking the opportunity to learn from it through action, output. I think you’re spot on about structured learning being the main difference. I need to write this all out and stop trying to learn things I think of, on the spot that in reality will take time
I finally found a pieces of my puzzle that can bridge a huge gap in ability to move from researching into planning and then execution thank you for this walk through. I do feel helped.
there are no words to describe how happy i am to have found this video. everything about you and your content is amazing. really no words to adequately describe it man. you deserve all the success you have and even more than that. you've probably helped thousands of people with just this one video dude. i find that incredible. keep on shining
Thank you. Means a lot. And really glad it helps. I'll have more on teaching yourself things in future content too. It's something I think the world is shifting more to these days.
Hey Vaughn! Just wanted to appreciate what you do and for being real! I've never seen anyone like you who cares more about how we can learn and less about getting views and engagement. Currently living in Japan, have been calling myself an artist my whole life, and still recently was feeling like I am in sort of an art block. Probably 4th or 5th time in my life I tried to do programming once again. Three month into it, found there a place to get back to my focus when I am too lost in the creativity lol! All you are saying here and in other videos are just like that! I decided to focus on a programming for a while, until I am confident, and then try to dig in other stuff I`d like to try! "Even one video studied and acted upon to its fullest extent can be worth thousands of hours of searching through material and barely applying it" That about sums it up 🙌
Indeed, and as a guitarist yourself I’m sure you know that. There’s 1000 different ways to get good, but none of them involve sitting around looking for a perfect course.
This is something ive been on to for a while but i hardly got to focusing and dedicating to doing just this and consistently but ive just started so here goes!
Bravo VAUGHN. THAT WAS HELPFUL. In line with my thoughts for this day. I have decided to stop feedingnso many videos into my brain all day long. Pick one andnsit with my journals or notion or one note and take notes from these 30-minute videos i watch of my favorite creator that has become my mentor
But as you learn beginner things,
you can tell if something is WAY out of your league (goes in the advanced category)
or if something is just a few tutorials away (goes in intermediate category.)
These videos can be moved around also as you learn more.
(For example something you thought was deemed advanced on guitar is actually an intermediate skill so you move it),
The labels are irrelevant really but it’s just a good way to organize it.
But again, the community will typically dictate your level.
You can technically name them whatever you want, as long as the core idea is there and you have some organization.
Guitar example can be
1. Trash
2. Decent
3. Kinda good
4. Really Good
5. Godlike
Hope that make sense,
Labels are just for you to organize your thoughts. 👌
And resources can be things like a textbook type material,
Where you don’t actually read it front to back, but just choose chapter when you need it.
Like a comprehensive list of guitar scales on a website for example.
Ahh, I understand now 👍
Thank you for explaining this!
Anytime! 💪

Fully self taught by simply emulating youtube dancers and choreographies, Im dancing almost on the daily and if I miss my training, Im suffering. Nice! Yes I think these days with all the info we have, self-taught is the way to go for many things.

Too many people are disregarding the fundamental things we learnt at school. Teachers I feel should each be equipped to deal with different students learning types in order to get the best out of students.

a deeply kind and empathetic video full of good advice. you're the mentor many folks need man, thank you.
Glad it helps!
Yes indeed! it's a daily battle but it's worth reminding ourselves.
@@vaughngene the battle continues. I’m also a guitarist so it’s nice to see you axes on the background.

Well... i think this channel is a true gem for me right now. Because this guy seems to do nothing but help other people with problems to do what will make them happy. Now im trying to learn english and i hope i writed all good over here. Be nice to my english 😅
your method a Big game changer for me since i never effectively organised all my skills 🙌. thanks Vaughn
No problem! 💪 happy the method helps.
I’ve been trying to learn guitar, french, and roller skating for the longest time but I keep failing to actually apply the small skills that I learn. This video helped me out so much in figuring out where to start set up wise so I know where to go next
Aye awesome! Glad this helps, That’s a cool list too.
You reminded me to hold onto my creative dreams. I’m in my 50’s and always said I wanted to go back to taking piano lessons, fFench and Spanish
Glad to help! Never too late.
Funny cuz video after video and suddenly I find this one and it’s straight up what I needed to hear learning guitar piano and singing I’ve been stuck in how to progress but with this video here… I’m just saying 11/10 content brother!
🙏
4:57 so true
Very well-spoken, sir. It has been helpful to me, in how I have learned since I was approx. 11, teaching "myself" how to play the piano, organ, and drums...now I am 65. The biggest criteria or ingredient is FOCUS!!!
Very nice! yeah focus is the key. I'll talk more about this in the future!
I felt that when you said that we are constantly overflooded with information and there's always better ways to do something that make us stops
Yeah once you get results, You'll realize there is no extra video or thing you need. Just moving on one item does a lot. It's hard but in due time you realize the truth.
Here is a video a bit more on Shiny Object Syndrome too,
ua-cam.com/video/YWfi3WzTIxs/v-deo.htmlsi=zfVsu2IfwAPp-uCQ
😮💨😮💨 I am guilty as well. Procrastinate so much so that many opportunities pass by... This was a good video. Thanks.🙌🏿
Glad it helps!
Thank you! 😊
Glad it helps,
Despite what some people say, there is no “correct” order to learn music in general so, go for it.
As someone who considers herself a jack of all trades but a master of none, this really helped me put things into perspective!! I love this video!! Thank you for your tips!!
You got it! Remember the full quote is "Jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one”
Nice! And anytime 👌

This makes me feel better. I’m learning Korean, Spanish and Guitar. I thought I was overdoing it. I genuinely enjoy learning and won’t ever stop.
Yep, learning is not a 'task' like we are taught to believe,
it actually makes you feel alive imo.
Yeah definitely focus on the most practical first!
The rest can come later. 👌
This is right approach for learning news skill. I usually listen one content over over again
this eye opening, i am in the youtube trap too, i managed to use other social medias about 30-45min, less or not use it on a daily basis. but for youtube, i feel like i learn something everyday but there are no results. i even found out recently that nowadays i don't have goals written in a more understandable way, as a result i bounce around different topics everyday, procrastinate this n that. at the end of the month i accomplish nothing.
THANK YOU SO MUCH THIS WILL HELP ME TO BE ORGANISED IN 1 WAY OR ANOTHER. STAY BLESSED
Yeah it’s so easy for us to fall into the trap,
Me included.
Especially with everyone promising you some “fast and easy way” (which never works Lol).
So we fear not having the right path.
Glad I could help!
I'm in the third semester of college in math and just now I got started in the groove of being motivated to study and read. really looking forward to learn how to study properly.
really nice and soothing video
Nice it’s a process but you’ll get there,
and thank you!
I’m on a journey to learning to write songs. The timing of me landing in this videos is perfect, will apply your advice man 🙏🏽
Been a software engineer for 9 years, would be more than glad to help anyone learning it.
Loved the jujutsu kaisen reference ❤
All things I've taught myself to some degree and focus on learning as well. Brilliant.
@@vaughngeneyup. A video or two on that would be greatly appreciated
I am so glad I clicked on this video. I don't really have anything substantial to say, but just want to leave a comment to tell you how grateful I am for this video
Thanks! & Glad you clicked!
thanks for not saying that not being able to learn on your own is a symptoms of laziness or stupidity. I often overwhelm myself with information constantly jumping from things from excitement and desire to progress which then obviously leads to not having the best foundations. I really enjoyed your video
Hey glad it helped! And yeah it’s really the internets fault.
We are usually hard workers, just doing it wrong.
Hopefully this lays out some guidance!
I've been feeling overwhelmed by UA-cam content and having so many things I want to learn. This was really helpful information and also calming. I came away from this video feeling more organized in my own mind and capable of learning the things I want to learn. Thank you for your videos. Keep up the great work ❤️
Glad it helps! and Thanks!
Your advice is spot on. I find myself constantly searching for the next tutorial that will be the magic one when I just really need to start practicing.
Yep, coming to terms with the fact there there is no perfect plan is freeing 🙌
I started building a tiny house last year. Starting out, I had very minimal basic diy experience, but after facing each task head on, using UA-cam as a guide, I've overcame many challenges that I avoided due to being intimidated. I've learned a lot and am still learning. But once knowledge is acquired, it makes all future decisions go by so much quicker and more accurate. Sometimes you have to face your problems to get better. Don't let your problems deter you from your ability to tackle them.
Indeed! I think its tough at first but like you mentioned, once you do it, it's well worth the effort.
Yeah trusting the process is EVERYTHING,
I am going to make a video about Shiny Object Syndrome soon.
That should help a lot of people.
Hey glad this helped! And thank you! I try to keep my delivery as simple as possible and natural.
Just come back whenever you need a refresher.
glad you mentioned this because i’ve realized that this is the only way to go. currently working on swimming, and i’ve gotten so much further than where i was when I first started. my swim teacher helped for about two weeks, and she just told me “you’ve got this. don’t be afraid”. after getting over myself, I took the chance and started going to the pool consistently and took on structured plans i found on the internet. I can now go about 200m non stop at a moderate pace, after being unable to float or crawl past 5ft. It’s really challenging, but i’ve never felt more in tune with how much potential I have, if only I put myself out there
Nice! That’s a lot of progress too,
I used to do scuba diving in the Navy, so there was a small bit of swimming but mostly floating.
Nice 👌, good idea.
Hey Glad it helped!
And yeah ADHD can be a superpower if leveraged correctly.
I find that removing ANYTHING that may distract you is the key.
This is solid advice. I was just struggling with letting some hobbies go to focus more on coding, learning Hebrew, and getting better at playing bass.
I don't think I've ever subscribed from just one video, but this video alone was just so inspiring that I had to. good luck on your learning journey!
Hey glad I could help! It's definitely something that has gotten me quite far over the years
I feel blessed to have found this video, and this channel overall.
It’s extremely helpful when you realize how much you can get from just a few videos too!
i really missed utubers like u feels so humqn not alot of effect and feels real keep up
Thank you! 🙏, that’s my goal with this channel.
I’ve heard it said there’s two modes of learning, equally important. Input, and output. As you said we often give ourselves and information overload, input, without ever taking the opportunity to learn from it through action, output. I think you’re spot on about structured learning being the main difference. I need to write this all out and stop trying to learn things I think of, on the spot that in reality will take time
Yes indeed, I think it's been overlooked a lot these days but I want to hopefully change that.
I finally found a pieces of my puzzle that can bridge a huge gap in ability to move from researching into planning and then execution thank you for this walk through. I do feel helped.
Also, I am in to keyboard, guitar, violin, sewing, book writing to name a few…😂
Glad to help! Just come back and watch this when you need a reminder.
Love this! I love learning Chinese, piano, violin, & Korean all on my own! Great to see people similar 😊🤓📚
Very nice, all doable online too!
With music recording yourself helps a lot also.
Even if you don’t post it.
I’ll talk more about this in the future.
there are no words to describe how happy i am to have found this video. everything about you and your content is amazing. really no words to adequately describe it man. you deserve all the success you have and even more than that. you've probably helped thousands of people with just this one video dude. i find that incredible. keep on shining
And I'm genuinely learning concepts too! You have really great insights and as someone who has a lot of hobbies, I can see how I could apply your advice into handling them all well. I'm really glad I encountered your channel today!
That's good to hear, and thank you. Means a lot.
I purposefully try to detach from metrics on this channel so it comes out as natural as possible.
bro casually dropping that he is a genius???? love that for you!!! i'm currently learning italian & how to play the guitar. I usually tend to wander between my interests and then I drop them, so i'm sticking to these two and trying to make the most out of them! Great, GREAAAAT video!
Nah I'm not a genius at all Lol but thank you.
and nice! I have more videos about balancing things coming soon.
THE FIRST TIME in my life I am so far in doing something new to me. Focus is a key, until you "new" hobby becomes sort of a routine to you!
Keep up a good job, love your videos!
That's awesome to hear! it's such a freeing feeling once you start seeing results in something, especially after years of dithering in a sense.
& Thank you! Will do!
Learning Japanese and really want to take a course, but didn't know how to organize myself so i can stay on course with my goal to be fluent. This helps me a lot, thank you for taking the time to make the vid!
Hey No problem! I have some stuff about how I went about learning Japanese, coming soon.
It should help a lot.
This is really helpful for me and people with ADHD. I end up dead scrolling content under the guise of "research" and not progressing. Here getting fluent in Spanish, Tekken and Sales (in general)
tbh, booktok is just wattpad in video form
but as a former wattpad teen and current ao3 addict, you have reawakened the critical reader within me yet again. I plan to go on a brainrot cleanse now, so thank you truly for this masterpiece of a video essay and reminding me what reading was meant for.
🙌
"Even one video studied and acted upon to its fullest extent can be worth thousands of hours of searching through material and barely applying it" That about sums it up 🙌
Indeed, and as a guitarist yourself I’m sure you know that.
There’s 1000 different ways to get good,
but none of them involve sitting around looking for a perfect course.
Glad it helps! 💪, just come back when you need a reminder.
