    DJ’d professionally with a free app on my iPad, made 7 albums made almost exclusively with free apps on my iPad, have made almost all of my UA-cam videos in iMovie and make all my thumbnails in a free photo editor…hell, I do most of my workouts at home with a backpack 🤷‍♂️
    Keep it simple…limitations breeds creativity 👌

      Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom. 🙏😊This is exactly what I needed to hear. In the pursuit of becoming more productive, I looked for every bit of information available out there, and I just ended up feeling overwhelmed and unable to take any action. I like your straightforward, simplistic approach on things. The way you present your contents is very calming and relatable, without frills and BS. Again, thank you!🙏❤️

    I love this channel and glad it was recommended to me. Totally in line with my mentality.
    1: I workout everyday with my main goal being longevity. So I'm not working out until failure, and I'm not measuring whatever the algorithm of the day is telling me to measure
    2: I play music as a hobby, I have no illusions of releasing everything or even being great at it. I play 6 instruments and rotate a few each day depending on my mood. My main goal for this is relaxation, interest, and also, building a dementia buffer
    3: I'm a software developer so this is my big thing where I always feel like I need to be gaining more knowledge. But I actually realized a few years ago, I know most of what I need to know, I just need to adjust my focus and concentrate, So my work is a focus/concentration effort. Which apparently I am failing at because im writing this comment during work 😂 Its ok though, its all a process

    man this hits hard. the stress and anxiety accumulated through diminishing results is the #1 reason why I "wish" I didn't have so many interests. but learning is the "spice of life" and rewarding at the same time. How to reconcile this paradox--is one of my ambitions.

    Your channel has become a staple of mine already. Love watching it grow and blow up! You’re an inspiring balance of gentle and piercing, if that makes sense. Would love to request a video on how you approach relationships in your life (friends, love) generally how you “simplify” or find the ideal in this arena.

    • @vaughngene
      @vaughngene  2 місяці тому +1

      That does make sense, and thank you! 🙏
      I can maybe get into that someday.
      I think being around people who value their own time and have hobbies also is the most important thing to do.
      Otherwise they tend to feel like owe them time and it’s all downhill from there Lol.
      On the inverse someone who has their own passions will be okay with that time apart because they have something to do.

    This video came to me at the right time, recently I have been overloading myself with weird routines that ruined the balance of my comfort, but from this video, I got a message that taking small steps in knowledge and strategy improves you more than learning everything and being overwhelmed by it all. Thanks.

    Subbed last week because you are very relatable, with the skills I have always aspired to achieve ie; guitar, piano, Japanese, and MMA. I find myself checking out when I'm listening to other "achievers" because they are either fit and a bit over the top with limited interests or very diverse but are physically subpar.
    This video was great and I applied it unknowingly 2 years ago when I taught my daughter tennis. I never played and I was determined to get her into Varsity tennis her freshman year. I wanted to prove to her and her mom that she had an innnate talent for learning...or rather taking instruction. We had only 2 months and so I knew this was a monumental task and so I went to UA-cam and followed this trainer who was teaching this new student. We followed her training and did not proceed to the next step until we met or exceeded the student in the videos. By the end of 2 months, we mastered only 3 things; the flat serve, flat forehand, flat backhand. I emphasize "flat" because I didn't even know about top spin to add control to the ball because we hadn't the time to get to that portion yet. My daughter and I both learned about top spin from her coach right after she made Varsity at tryouts. He told her she had very consistent and fast shots, but needs work on her top spin. My daughter and I just exchanged glances and pretended to know what coach was talking about. But my point is that since my practice deadline was limited, I was forced to pick a coaching method and just practiced the lessons for 3 hours every hot Texas day with my daughter and because of that we honed her skills quickly. When describing her journey, I always use the old adage; "Fear not the warrior that knows a thousand strikes, but rather the warrior that practices one strike a thousand times a day. "

      Hey thanks. It's cool I can resonate with you a bit.
      And yeah totally get what you mean there. Fundamentals are 'boring' to a lot of people but I really believe that's where the magic happens. Plus everything else tends to build off of that.
      I actually learned Japanese that way. Just drilling a lot of fundamental sentences over and over again, and basically it came to the point where All I have to do is change out vocab words when I need them.
      But I will discuss this soon!
      That's awesome for your daughter though, 2 months is a short time to learn too.
      I really believe one aspect at a time is the way to really excel in the long run. It's just something that requires a delayed gratification so it's naturally difficult.

    The information overload is real. I also lived through that change and it definitely affected my ability to advance my skills and learn new things. It’s strange, because you’d think more resources = better opportunity to learn, and yet it can distract from actually doing the work, create stress around the skill, and kill motivation. You can vicariously live through other people’s skills and expertise instead of going through the discomfort of developing your own.
    Thanks for the reminders to keep it simple, chillax a little about it, and get to work.

    You’re now my favorite productivity UA-camr. I really resonate with your philosophy on productivity. You’re the only one who doesn’t make me feel guilty for not squeezing more activities into my day. I especially like your putting emphasis on taking action as I am prone to analysis paralysis and information overload myself. I get so confused and paralyzed sometimes that I lose all motivation to do anything. I also like it that you’re not so dogmatic and you’re encouraging your viewers to adapt whatever you say to their particular circumstances. I’m gonna start playing around with your system. i definitely appreciate that for all the content you make, most of it boils down to the basic idea of picking one thing to focus on, doing it consistently, and removing anything that isn't absolutely necessary. I think a lot of content creators in various spaces feel like in order to make content regularly they have to keep giving you new ideas, which is probably the opposite of what a lot of people need.

    • @vaughngene
      @vaughngene  Місяць тому

    Learning not to read or write kanji was what sped up my Japanese learning. I just followed the general advise and started with Kanji in the plan, learning the strokes and everything. At some point it occurred to me that I was never going to use it ever.

    Great video, as I remember while growing up to become a teenager, I've been just as you are now, highly curious, as english is a second language, by the time I was 12 I could have a conversation with someone, by the time I was 16 I would read and write. I was pronouncing the letter R as french people do, so I had to teach myself to properly pronounce it through the tongue. I've taught myself how to do lots of things, but then while being an adolescent, I've found out online games.
    Then after 21 I've went on the spiral of personal development, and don't get me wrong, it wasn't a waste of time, but a lot of years I've spent just learning how to do the thing rather than doing the thing. Now, I'm tapping back on that curiosity to begin living as the kid I once was.

    Hey Vaughn great video like always. I was wondering could you do a quick video on how to stay the course when learning high level technical skills like software engineering. at times i get discouraged when facing a difficult problem or just staying consistent overall. Any tips?

    • @vaughngene
      @vaughngene  2 місяці тому

      Good point, I think I can make a video on that sometime.
      In software though you HAVE to solve things one small step at a time,
      If you look at the whole project (a mistake I used to make), you may get overwhelmed.
      For example,
      Rather than saying,
      “I have to create this page, with functional JavaScript and make sure it looks good on all the devices”
      Just literally break that down into 20 steps.
      1. Code the HTML
      2. Code the CSS Mobile first
      3. Check flex boxes
      4. Add media queries for tablet and desktop,
      And so on,
      Whether it’s front and or back end, breaking it down like that is far less stressful.
      I actually learned that From Aaron Jack, the software engineer UA-camr.
      That is a simple example but it applies to even the more advanced JavaScript or backend process too. 👌

    • @vaughngene
      @vaughngene  3 місяці тому +2

      Hey, I actually go over that I my previous video about how to learn anything fast. But the short answer is to ensure that you are always learning something NEW everytime you sit down to practice or study.
      This applies to just about anything. Particularly in Language and Music though.
      Review is nice, but practice should be mostly what you are not comfortable with.
      If you do this everyday (or almost), and spend your other time polishing what you know,
      overtime you'll naturally have a large database of polished work to show.
      I'm glad you asked though so I can make a standalone video about this for more clarity! It's probably something I should really go into detail about.
