Wow, what a drawn out process. I have learned to annoy my medical team until they make progress. For what it’s worth, the expensive American system got me a pump much faster than 13 months. Actually more like 13 days. A CGM took them a few months though. Looking forward to more videos :)

Thanks for this video. You’ve explained the process very informatively and concisely. I have my diabetic review in two weeks and will be raising it. I turned a pump down years ago and regret it now.

@@diabeticbeckyfitness4879 Thank you Becky! At the time of the pump being offered to me - my control was better. It’s still great in terms of the overall HBA1C - it’s about 6.5 ish. But I’ve been having erratic glucose levels lately due to life stresses and a bit of “burn out”. Hoping to get back on track! :)

What a complicated set of process you have to go through to get a pump. I’m in the US with Medicare and I just had to meet three conditions: my c-peptide blood test shows pancreas is not producing any insulin, my A1c is considered diabetic, and I’m injecting minimum 4 times per day with insulin. Still took a couple of months to get my pump and Dexcom. In any event glad to see that you are qualified!

It really is a faff! Thanks, very excited!

@@diabeticbeckyfitness4879 faff is a British term so I had to look it up to find out what it meant, haha. With your A1c being that low I don’t know if you’ll see much improvement but I share in your excitement because there are other benefits and that’s exactly how I felt when I switched over. Looking forward to videos incorporating the new tech into your lifestyle :)

Great video! After 15 years of MDI, I finally brought up a pump with my endo. She says my control is fairly good and wouldn't see much of a change with a pump, though I explained its more for ease of life as I'm now 26 and really can't be bothered with so many injections. In all my diabetic life i'd never been offered the DAFNE course, though i'm from the south east (UK) and our nearest centre is like an hour away. I have however completed the KAT1E course which i'm almost certain is the same thing due to learning about meal adjustments/carb counting/insulin requirements, kinda hoping that they'll acknowledge this course and approve me! 🤞

Thank you for this very informative video, it's been very helpful. My diabetic specialist is encouraging me to take a dafne course and get a pump because my HbA1c has been getting higher each year and I need to give many corrective doses. I test reguarly and carb count but I'm on a lot of medication which interfears with the glucose levels. I'm also experiencing chronic kidney failure, last function reading at 40% and they believe the high chlorestrol level and high HbA1c are contributors to this. Apparently my clinic only runs these Dafne courses four times a year, I assume the first one being in Spring. After watching this I'm much more interested in persuing an insulin pump. Kind regards.

It definitely sounds like an insulin pump might be a great option for you. Definitely do your research before committing to a specific pump!

I have a question: most insulin pumps should be replaced after about 4 years of use. Do you have to go through the whole approval process at that point again? Or do you just automatically get a new pump? Just wondering if you knew anything about that x

So I’m not 100% sure, but I’m pretty sure you just have a review and discuss whether you’re happy with your current pump or want to switch. As far as I’m aware they would only take the pump away at that point if it clearly isn’t working for you
