I don't like the fact they want you to WASTE very expensive insulin. In addition to pre filling the needle and making sure you put out a drop or two or three, I just turn it to the number I need and inject it. The very first use of the pen I will get the insulin to the needle because the pen has air in it for the first use only. Something else I found out is that when your pen is supposedly empty, there is still around 15 units still in it. I have a syringe that I use when the pen is supposedly empty. Funny how they want you to waste so much insulin. Just for an example, I need to usually inject 20 units 3 times a day. So that could be a waste of 3-6 or 9 drops of insulin wasted. The pen supposedly holds 300 units. It lasts me around 3 1/2 to 4 days. That would be 10-31 drops wasted. I don't know how much exactly that would be but add that to the 15 units you throw away when the supposed pen is empty. I have gotten up to 317 units out of my pens. It usually gets at least 315 units.
Dr.’s office did not have anyone to show me how to inject or use the pen. Thought they were being dismissive telling me to watch UA-cam! This video was VERY helpful. Thank you!
At 69, I started using insulin about 2 weeks ago, and the idea of shoving a needle in me scared me more than flying over Vietnam! But I watched a ton of videos and finally just gritted my teeth and put the needle (BD Nano 4mm) on the Flex Touch pen, swabbed the alcohol wipe on my upper thigh, pressed the pen against my skin and pressed the button... I've had fly bites that hurt more. Same thing the next night when I injected it in my belly, it was like "and you were a big baby about WHAT?" It is incredible how simple and painless the whole process is. It's more uncomfortable taking blood from my finger.
Thank you for sharing this. I’ve put off injecting myself for 2 days now since I picked up my script.
Am 60 here and I took my first dose today. Wow! What a difference! Much better experience than poking my fingers to take my glucose readings! Also much better than any $500/month pill that had been prescribed to me before finally prescribing insulin. I feel so much better too after the injection too! Almost normal! 😊
I am taking care of a diabetic patient who may nedd to start taking insulin from this month so i came to youtube to see how insulin should be given and your video was very helpful.thank u
Thank you for this. Doing my first shot tonight and was nervous, forgetting what they told me at the doctor! Feel more confident now! 💗
As a hospital chaplain that just got prescribed one of these, thank you for your tutorial. Very helpful.
Wondering about why they don't mention counting to, say, ten to make sure all the medication has gotten through the needle.
Very nice informative video on insulin technique.
Another thing worthy to note is when using a new pen for the first time you may have to prime more than one time to see any insulin drops coming out.
Thank you for this video…starting my treatment today and I do appreciate your tips!
You are awesome thanks much for sharing all your videos, it helps me a lot doing my clinical.
My doctor prescribed 90 units and only have Novolog 70/30 pens: do I have to use 2 pens? 6:01
The facilities I been too, do not expose the needle at all they keep it in the container and are injecting it that way is it a different pen they are using then
Thx no good videos in german thx so much
How often do the needles need to be replaced? Is it like a new needle every time?
Yes a new needle every time.
How do you know when they are empty
When you can't turn the dial anymore
If you have to use 60 units. Do you. Dial it all the way to 60? Seems like too much in pen> thank you
They make different size pens just like they make different size syringes

EXCELLENT job! Nice, clear demo. Many thanks for your support / kindness.
I think for those watching that may not be professionals like us, you should’ve added a quick description of where they can inject…what areas of the body are sub-q. Just my thoughts. Thanks for the video.
Ok can do
I was recently started on insulin (3 SA, 1 LA per day) and I was thinking it was going to be confusing to do and felt nervous since i kind of have a fear of needles. I looked for tutorials and found your video and it didnt seem as confusing as i thought afterwards. Its been about 3 days and i’ve already gotten used to it! Pain free too! Thanks alot!👍
Can i use lantus at night and metforming in the morning
Question - do you have to prime the pen before each injection or just the first time the pen is used?
You have to prime it each time because you use a new needle each time.
Please demonstrate how to extract a used cartridge & replace with a new on..(ryzozeg 70/30)
Thank you. My mom just got prescribed this and I'm the one giving the shot. You helped me feel more at ease in doing this. Have a good day.
I have a question. You say that once I start using a pen, I can keep it at room temperature. Can I put it back into the refrigerator instead? Doesn’t it keep better in the fridge? Thanks.
Thank you for making me find the needle. For the life of me i couldn’t 😂😂😂this was very detailed.Thank you
My son fell ill with KDA this weekend, and has to come off the pump. It has been a while since I gave him insulin via kwikpen, and this refresher was just what i was looking for. I'm monitoring him overnight, and I have the humlog ready with!
Thank you for making this video, you might just have saved a life
Hope he gets well soon 🙏
I was trained to administer these injections however we are not required to have second person verify the dose.
What if the needle cap will not come off ?
Best to try a new one so you don't poke yourself struggling with it.
@@thatnursingprof2661Thanks so much. ❤️
Where's the needle? Does it come in the same box as insulin pen
Thank you for posting these. I realized this week that I don't know how to give my mom insulin in case she has a really bad episode & can't do it herself. This made me feel so much better.
Thank you for this video. A nurse in the Dr office showed me how to use the pen. She showed me wrong. She didn’t tell me that after I screwed the needle on that I was to remove the clear cover or the green sheath. My blood sugars hadn’t gone down in a week so I looked up your tutorial and soon realized I haven’t been getting doses when pressing the injector as both covers were on the needle. I’m so pissed off. I even called the Dr office because my blood sugars were still so high after injecting myself. Nor did the nurse tell me to use alcohol swabs. I even asked. Of course the Dr office never called me back. WTH??
I'm sorry that happened to you. But good for you for advocating for your health.
Too bad can you give the nurse location ? im gonna give her dose of her own med😡
Can you unpinch after the needle is inserted or do you keep it pinched the whole time
Keep it pinched the entire time the needle is in.
Hai, it's very nice and I learn new in daily succuss fully...I like your demo sis
I just learned this last week! + subq injections! I will definitely check out the subq injections!!! Thank you!
Where's the needle? Does it come in the same box as insulin pen
You will get a separate box of 1 time use needles.

Most patients prefer the insulin pen... folks that have used insulin syringes for years likely prefer such.
Do you that the part That you removed can cause needle stick injury. I removed the syringe and accidentally stick the needle. I am shaking about part 3:54
Hi is it painful then dose it hurt
Thanks...youve been very helpful ...
I noticed in the video that some of the fluid was still there when the pen was removed. Is that normal?
That's because its not a real person
Very informative
This is very helpful ! Thank you so much for posting!
Thank you very much😊
Very good presentation - thank you.
Thank you so much!!!
I LOVE YOU ❤
Great video! Very informative.♥️
😘😘😘 thankyou
do you prime it before each use?
yes
Excellent
Why do some nurses take a syringe and draw from the pen? I seen this done several times. And one nurse even used a TB syringe.
🤔 I have never seen that
@@thatnursingprof2661 We learned in school to never do this. It's wrong....i know. That's probably why you never seen it lol. Thanks for replying. I watched your videos all throughout school and they have helped me with nursing school exams. Now I am taking my NCLEX soon!! Thanks for all you do!❤❤❤
@@crystalmora9441 Good luck
