I’m so excited for you! Pumps have a learning curve but I am sure that you will do amazing :). I wish the Solo was available in the US, I would have considered it but the closes that we have is omnipod. As always, I continue to look forward to more videos from you!

From a pump user with a few years usage under his belt:
Your first week, first month, first year WILL NOT BE the same experience you have as a year or two later. This is a longish process to adapt to.
In general, pumps just are better. But they're made by dumb humans for dumb humans, so: issues happen.
The current pump that i currently have at one point in time I was ready to throw out of an airplane... Now I love it and can't even remember what was the problem that vexed me so much back then. Probably I was doing dumb human stuff, and learned something to avoid...
You will have issues, you will go through that whole "pump vacation" thing, etc etc. We usually come back bc damnit, the glucose swings are just less on a pump.
Specifically, the loop system and Control IQ on Tandem t slim are just bonkers. Like, you can be single and party and weird work schedule and active and also not die alone overnight bc the pump shuts off as needed to protect dumb humans
It's a legit piece of software. Please get the Dexcom in your life ASAP.
Game changer! Good luck to all my fellow diabetics, make good choices and stay fit and positive, nobody else can do that for you 👍🏽

H, just wanted you to know if you have any left over insulin pens with the sam efast acting you have in your pump use the insulin from that aswell :) i remember i chucked a bunch of pens away and it was so wasteful but you can draw insulin from them so dont forget :) so happy to see you pumping!!!
also just a tip incase you havent been told, its better to stick the side with the canula pointing towards your belly button so the canula sticks better and hurts less, hope this helps :)
that pump looks lovely and the diabetes manager is really nice and compact! it looks way better than my omnipod eros! im getting a new pump and dexcom in the next few weeks to help my control bevause im getting complications with my eyes now. im going for a tubed pump because i always lose the diabetes manager for my omnipod and it means i cant bolus if i leave it. atleast having something tubed its constantly attached
also your videos are really helpful especially the one about how you lowered your hba1c.
really enjoying your channel and its inspiringme to start my own and document my diabetes journey

Thanks for the tip! Unfortunately I can’t draw insulin from my pens as the pump I use doesn’t use syringes to fill the reservoir, it has a weird device thing to do it that doesn’t work with syringes so you can only take from the vial! Thanks for the tip on pump placement too ☺️ I hope you find a pump that works well for you, it sounds like you’ve put a lot of thought into it! And thank you for your lovely comment, it means a lot ☺️

@@diabeticbeckyfitness4879 oh wow! Im sorry for assuming it was the same as how omnipid works I've never heard of anything other than syringes to fill a pump before! If that ever happens again you can call 111 and request a prescription aswell, I had to do it today as my pump failed and I had no basal insulin and haven't used it for years but they sent my prescription to my nearest pharmacy within 5 minutes!
Thankyou for sharing your diabetes journey with us all xx

Congrats on the pump! I think a lot of companies are trying patch varieties (or testing them out anyway). I know Tandem is working on one, which is good because it means those of us in the US will have a couple options going forward when that is available. There will be a short tube to the infusion set, but both pieces will be attached to the body, so a little more than a standard patch pump in terms of area, but I'm looking forward to that because I've been using Tandem since 2018.

Thanks! Yeah I saw that- it looks exciting! Especially if it can loop with the Dexcom I think that will be a game changer for a lot of people. Dreaming of the day I can get the Dexcom and patch Tandem on prescription!

Great! The Solo is a very interesting pump. Some tips and info:
    1. From what I recall, the reason why the Solo isn't waterproof is that it uses a metal-air battery, not that it has a computer inside (all pumps have some form of microcontroller). Metal-air batteries need ... air 😄 I think there's the option to seal the solo, and it runs off a secondary (but smaller) battery or something like that. Did the Roche rep mention anything like this?
    2. Tweaking basal is very difficult, since rapid acting insulins typically act for 5-6 hours (not 2-3 - the pharmacokinetic curves of the insulin manufacturers themselves show 5-6 hours of action), so any factor that you tweak at for example 12:00 will still influence your BG at 16:00. I use a circadian basal profile, basically a larger bump in the morning (for dawn and feet-on-floor phenomena) and a smaller bump in the evening. With such profiles, you do not (!) change the overall shape of the profile, you just adjust the total basal dosage and shift the profile so that its morning peak coincides with the time in the morning you typically get up. Mention to your endo this paper: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31633384/ I use this profile, and it works GREAT. Only very mild morning BG rise (by maybe 15 mg/dL at most).
    3. DIY looping with the Solo is in development from what I recall! Right now, get to learn how to live with a pump. But some months later, I recommend learning about DIY looping. Total game changer.

Thanks for the tips and info ☺️ I haven’t actually spoken with anyone from Roche! So far I’ve been finding basal tweaking really helpful. Great to hear you’re found profiles that work for you!

@@diabeticbeckyfitness4879 Being able to adjust basals is suuuuper helpful. I'm talking about temp basals though. The ability to reduce basal for cardio is quite literally a life saver. But regarding the basal profile, I'm curious - when you took your 2x levemir shots per day, was the evening shot bigger than the morning one? Or were both equal in dosage? I know that many people take a bigger dose in the evening to cover dawn. If you did that, then you actually were already using a circadian profile 🙂
And, be prepared for a serious reduction in basal over the next couple of days. I was using 34 IU of Tresiba with MDI. With the pump, basal went down to 25 IU (!!). Had lots of hypos at first! Tresiba is a good basal, but changes in dosage take a LONG time to kick in (several days). Another point for the pump.
Also, after a while, you gotta try the dual-wave / multiwave bolus function with more complex meals that have significant amounts of fat & protein in addition to carbs, such as a kebab dish with rice. I was amazed back then how useful it was, since prior to that, I had to cover the slow, fat-protein induced BG rise with multiple bolus shots.
And, please post another video in a few days or weeks about how the solo performs in your daily routine, especially about how it feels when sleeping (since it seems somewhat bulky). I tried a demo Omnipod once, and it was rather uncomfortable when I was lying on it when I rolled over in my sleep.

@@dvdv7777 I used to be more levemir in the evening, but after I came off the pill I switched and needed less in the evening and more during the day. Yes I started on a lot less basal on the pump - the clinic do a calculation based on your current dosage and minus and percent to account for less needed on the pump so I didn’t have all the beginning hypos. Yes I use multi wave bolus regularly - it’s super helpful ☺️ I have videos coming up soon with exactly that.

    Hi Becky
    Curious to know your age
I think we're about the same.
I was curious to know what you have attached to your Libre. Also have you ever moved it off your arms? I find i always bump into things and there's not a worse feeling in the world than having torn off a Libre. The feeling is just awful.

Hey, I'm 23 :) It's a Miao Miao - it turns the libre into a CGM, there's a full review video on my channel if you want to find out more about it. I always use my arms but you could try using stickers to help keep it on!
