You did great! As someone who learned to fly before safe days let me give you a little advice and take it for what it’s worth, the safe technology is good but, you shouldn’t freak out if you don’t have it. I would say get a good old high wing balsa trainer electric or nitro it doesn’t matter and learn to get comfortable flying without any stabilization device, do a lot of touch and goes with it and when you get comfortable doing that, then go back to fly with the as3x or safe. That way you train your mind to react quickly and do small corrections when wind is blowing. And I can guarantee that you will fly any airplane and don’t worry if it have or don’t have safe. Appreciate the support. To date, I have been using Safe for landings because I am not a big fan of repairing these. I still do it, but don't enjoy it. Not a great day for flying, but we take what we can get this time of year. Expected the paint job on this to stand out a little more, but it was a low, foggy cloud cover, between that and needing more for rates and expo and then not having safe, It wasn't a very smooth flight. All those are great reason why to have SAFE to get out of hot water if you need it, especially on a maiden. Third time this year I had to do an entire flight without SAFE due to transmitter programing issues and I landed all of them. Check out my 1.5 Mustang video. I do plan on taking my Habu STS up this winter and practicing touch and goes without safe. Thanks for watching!

Part of park flying I guess. Never have flown in a space where there weren't obstacles to worry about. One of the main points of this channel is to show you can do this hobby without belonging to a club.

Thanks 👍 . Maidens in less than ideal conditions can get a little ..... tense. Hoping for good weather to get her up again! Made some adjustments to the rates, want to test it out.

That plane is very nice looking and you did a good job flying. Looks like losing orientation in flight can get tricky pretty quickly.

This jet looks like to need a very long run way for landing
To be fair, I landed in takeoff flaps, without air brakes, so could have slowed this plane down a lot more. Didn't want to stall it on my first landing like some other popular UA-camrs have. Also parking lot was slight downhill in that direction, but still considering addeing an Avian ESC to it to have reverse thrust. Gotta get some more flights on it. Thanks for watching!

I would not say that, watch the second flight I posted where the landing gear gave out. That was with a heaver 5000 smart pack compared to the 4400 SMC pack on the maiden. The FMS BAE Hawk 80MM will glide a lot farther with no power, but neither one of them is a HABU, which will glide for what seems like eternity without power.

Currently just the drone registration through the FAA, RID is of coarse supposed to start in March, unless it gets pushed back again. Have had 2 RID transmitters on order with Horizon Hobby, still have not received them.
@@MarksAultimateRC thanks for the update , i did not know that RID was postponed again util March. I guess RID transmitter is what will be required if not flying in a club field. Thanks again for your response!
If you do not turn safe on with forward programming, it is automatically in AS3X only.
At least with the newer spektrum receivers that have a bind button.
The FMS REFLEX V2 and V3 are plugged into one of the receiver's channels.
I think this was more of an issue programing it on the IX14. I had safe working on the bench before I flew. I learned a long time ago to always test it when setting up a model. Whatever I did at setup didn;t save. New lesson learned, always recheck again at the field before taking off on your maiden flight

The Federal rules that are out there protect air space for manned aircraft, at least for now.. The biggest is not flying above 400 feet, near controlled airspace, etc. That doesn't mean you couldn't get in hot water with the local authorities if you are buzzing a car going down the road or flying close to someone's house. You should always use your best judgement given your surroundings, what you are flying, and your ability to fly what you currently have in the air. The local police stop by all the time to watch our flights and chat. One of the schools that we fly at has had people flying at it for years, long before I was in the hobby. It's almost become an unofficial flying field in the community.

If your plane weighs 250 grams or less, you don't need RID
Yup that safe mode is a crutch u dnt need how did we all learn before it yup you figured it out. There are pilots flying planes in $1000s category with out safe surly you can fly a $300 plane with out it I'm not just bustn u on it alot of it out there u did just fine on ur own go with it
Except this plane cost twice that once you put a receiver in it. I will use every last bit of technology I can get my hands on to keep this plane in one piece as long as I can. Even when I get to the point, where I feel confident flying any plane I can get my hands on I will still have SAFE on my planes. In order to expand this hobby, we need to encourage new people to join. Most people don't have the money ( given how much these cost today ), or more importantly the TIME to keep crashing and repairing planes trying to learn how to fly. I had the advantage going into this of knowing the principles and physics of flight given I have my Private Pilot License, but the skill set is not the same. $1000 dollars doesn't get you much in this hobby, 2 good planes, a transmitter and some batteries if you're lucky. Any kid ( or adult )can take $1000, buy the latest video game counsel with a decent amount of games and be entertained for days, instead of trying to fly a plane without safe and destroy it in 30 seconds. How many do you think would continue with the hobby?
What do you think is the best first 80mm edf, this or the 80mm bae hawk?
To be fair, I have not had good enough weather conditions to get another flight on the F86, and it seemed to be very stable landing, but I would probably say the BAE Hawk would be a better 1st 80MM. Cost less, easier setup, great flyer, lands just as nice.
If it is an AR630, it can go out of safe by itself.

I hate safe.. to many use it as a crutch.. then they panic when it doesn't work.. glad you didn't do that though...
Appreciate that. This is not an easy hobby on multiple fronts, the learning curve can be steep for some and it is an expensive hobby for what it is. Safe is just a tool to hopefully help more people be successful at this. That is beneficial for everyone in this hobby. The more people in it, the better the economies of scale is for the manufactures, which leads to better planes at a cheaper price! And honestly, if someone is flying with you at the field and has a smile on their face, does it really matter how they are doing it?
I can fly without safe, but I fly much better with it, knowing I can recover from anything.
Not really better, but way more aggressive.....
These models are too expensive these days to be crashing them all the time. I would likely not be this far in the hobby without it.
All safe does is wear out your servos.
That's a new one I haven't heard before, LOL.
@@MarksAultimateRC think about it as the life of the servo has so many cycles back and forth. With the gyro constantly moving the servos they have to wear more. Kind of like these cars that use stop / start go through starters like brake pads. More use, more wear.
To date, after 3 plus years of flying some of my models, I have never had and an aileron servo go bad because of too much use, only because of running into a curb on landing with a tail dragger.
I'm so old, I haven't even heard of Safe Mode
You should check into it more. We have an old gentleman flying with us that uses it when he looses orientation. ( His vision is not the best ) Safe has helped prolong his RC flying "career"
geee i wonder what us old timers survived back in the day did without "Safe/level modes", crappy radios, gittery servos and primative batteries..... everything gotta just fly itself these days, zero skill needed... its sad really.
What is sad is the " get off my lawn " mentality. You probably walked 10 miles to school too....
