Nice job. Ever since you said you were planning to do this, I have been thinking about how I would do it if it was me doing it. The method I thought up was pretty similar, with just one difference. I was thinking of using dowel pins instead of screws, and applying pressure with the tail stock. Another option I was thinking of was on the rotary table (in which case one would only need a one-piece jig but that one piece would be more complicated).

I fitted new shafts and bearings to my worn 20 year old TB’s recently, mainly to stop the rattle on the R/H TB, when I took the TB apart I did notice that it was worn similarly to yours in the video, but oddly I never thought to replace the butterfly’s themselves, an interesting video and food for thought.

Thanks Jon. In this case the butterflies were so worn that it was impossible to balance the throttle bodies. The big brass screw could be turned all the way in without making any difference to the idling or balance.

@@GuysGarage120 Thanks for the reply. I would never of thought that!. When I removed the brass shaft on the right TB I was surprised to find it was bent banana shaped and was visibly worn by the bearings allowing for play. I checked the Bing International Agency website in Australia to see if could buy the butterflies but they do not list, absolutely everything is available individually except the butterflies, I guess this is why I never thought to replace in my rebuild, and to be fair your rebuild posted on utube looks a darn sight better than my rebuild. I did pay a lot of attention when dismantling to make sure I put the butterfly back the same way up, and same side up also, these old Bmw’s certainly keep us entertained even when not riding, ha ha.
