Comparing the Heckler & Koch VP40 and VP9

- I had the chance to shoot the VP40 and VP9 side by side and thought it was worth talking about. It seemed like a good place to give my thoughts on the "caliber wars" too.

vp40 for me, always .40 s&w, aka the ideal cartridge caliber
and the 9mm jumps more than the .380 auto, ur point?
I tried almost everything else first... lol... but once I got the VP9 everything clicked for me - it has been the best pistol I've ever had.
After some trial and error I got the grip panels configured perfectly for my hands and, aside from that, the only other change I made was to add Trijicon HDs. Now my VP9 goes everywhere with me :)
I haven't shot the VP40 yet... but friends that have say it is a very soft shooting 40.
Good video. I agree with everything you said. From 2005 to 2013 I carried 40 caliber exclusively. I switched to 9mm 2 1/2 years ago and never looked back for all the reasons stated.
Thank you for answering my question with a demo.
Nice video man! I love the HK brand. I already own the VP9 that I use for home defense and traveling out of state by car because of the 15 + 1 round capacity and the P30sk for my CCW. I've been thinking about adding this VP 40 to my collection along with the HK 45 compact.
Good vid NGS! I'm looking to get exactly that gun soon.
I got the VP9 because I'd heard the trigger was exceptional. It is.
I have no pressing need to get the VP40 and in fact generally won't be shooting too much .40S&W any longer, preferring the 9mm for the obvious reasons, some of which you covered.
Good video.
Nice video! Can you do a second video where you show us each pistol and compare them? Overall slide and frame thickness, and do a field strip to compare the walls of the slide?
+jconradh Unfortunately I don't own either gun, so not sure when I can get to that. That data is readily available out there though.
I know, but you seemed as if you were going to show us a little more of each gun in comparison early in the video. 8^)
+jconradh Sorry about that. I filmed some closeups out at the range and the focus was off so I had to leave it out.
Thanks for a great review.
9mm can expand up to .40 but .40 does not expand down to 9mm, long live .40 (l love all calibers,.40 is my favorite.)
my favorite too
Thanks, another Great review.
Love my VP9----and decided about a year ago to move away from 40sw and got rid of my Glock model22 and won't get anymore 40s. At 62yo I think Im better off with 9mm. Thanks for sharing
+russ elder I'm with you on the 9mm Russ.
I think HK has the best ergonomics for a pistol; at least for my hand size anyway. The VP9 fits like a glove for me. Was curious if you ever considered doing a meet and greet type thing for viewers in this area? Maybe get the Rock City boys in on it for promo purposes. Would live to meet you guys.
+Ezekiel 9:1 We did a shoot last spring. There's some videos of it in here somewhere. Will probably do another in 2016.
That would be awesome. I'm new to gun ownership and watching these type of videos so I'll check it out and be looking. Thanks for all the good info!
Solid video, nice tee shirt as well.
Hey Wrightsville Beach that's not far from me, although your land looks dramatically different from anywhere near a beach. Anyway good content, subscribed
Heh, I did get the t-shirt there. I have a hard time passing up a Wings. We're considerably inland, outside Roxboro.
Get a .22 LR pistol and it wont hurt your hand!
I should send you my FNS 40 so you can compare it to that HK40
+Nihipali5 I've had both the VP9 and the FNS-9. Both are great guns. I like the trigger on the VP better but like the feel of the FNS better. All in all, I'd take the FN product over the H&K, but that's just me.
+Nerd Gone South yeah I watch your FNS 9c video frequently. in the 40 though, is that h&k really that nice? what about the 357 Sig comparison?
+Nihipali5 I'm not a fan of the 40 in any gun really. I would take the FNS in any caliber over the VP though. 357 sig has too much penetration IMO so I haven't done much with it.
+Nerd Gone South awesome, thank you for the insight. works for me
