Loved the video!💕 Just started my comic book collection and found Toon Haven. They offer a huge variety of digital comics for every genre, and lifetime updates too!😍
Been trying Whatnot for the first time over the last few months. Biggest lesson learned: my phone screen is not large enough to see all the flaws in books. LOL Fortunately, haven't spent a ton of money on there yet, but that's something I'll need to keep in mind going forward.
That is going to be my rule soon. Maybe we can motivate and keep each other accountable in that endeavor. I have a few more videos to make, then NO MORE MUTANTS…I mean comics.
I've purchased on WhatNot, but I'm staying away from it for the time being. Not that any of my transactions went poorly, it was just that I got too impulsive with some of my buys and it was wayyyy to easy to get caught up in the auction fever. I ended up spending more than I wanted, and as a Canadian, I also have to pay a lot more in shipping. Even though I could bring the cost of shipping down with more purchases, it encouraged me to bid on more items. I agree that it's a lot of fun, and there are good sellers out there, I just need more restraint.
I tried Whatnot a couple years ago. I got sick of the mystery boxes and carnival games. I also agree with you on the over hyping they would do on very mediocre books.
I’ve had to utilize Whatnot a fair amount as someone who doesn’t have a close LCS. Once you weed through the hype trains, pump and dump folks you can find some great sellers with good deals. Cosmic cat was one of my go-to’s and was always fair and accurate. Congrats on the pickups, great video Alex!
Trust me, I’m as surprised as you are. Haha. I still feel like there are a lot of dumpy sellers on there. When someone overpays by $20 and they are like “I can’t believe you got it for that price. What a steal?” Trust me. It’s going to take a LOT for me to fully endorse that app.
Welcome to the dark side Alex! MWAHAHA 😂. In all honesty though, I held off using the app, but I’ve been a buyer and seller for about a year now, and had a great experience. I understand people getting put off with some of the negativity etc, but there’s bad actors no matter where you go 🤷♂️. I try to give deals, be honest and respectful, and as you said, stay away from the “hype” people.
There are a lot of bad sellers, but they are pretty easy to weed through. There are a lot of great sellers though. I'd recommend checking out The Bunky Brothers. They have a good selection of Golden Age through Copper Age. I also enjoy picking up books from established stores like Reece or Metropolis.
I purchased on What Not one time about a year ago from Comic Ozzi, who is a great guy and great seller. But I forgot he lives in Canada and the shipping really gouged me. Need to really check shipping and other charges when buying books online.
Very interesting. I’ve never even looked into What Not. X-Men ‘97 has really brought out the X-Men nostalgia. We’ve had all of those books in my store for years at extremely affordable prices and they have just sat in our back issues boxes.
I had been looking for a So Much Fun version of X-men 221 for awhile, finally found one at STL Comics last year and picked it up for a decent price. I'd say overall a nice group of books from Whatnot
Howdy. James from StL here... that SMF 221 you bought was from my personal collection, and was a duplicate copy. I've only ever had two of them, and now you have one of them. Love it, cherish it, take good care of it. Most folks don't even know that book exists.
Howdy Alex! Thanks for another great video. I'm glad you had a good experience on Whatnot. However, when you said the same guy kept bidding against you, I couldn't help but suspect that there was a buddy shill bidder working against you to drive up the prices. I honestly don't know if there is any protection for you on that platform, but in the future, if you see such things, I would be very suspect that something underhanded is going on. Don't get caught up in the hype/FOMO. 80s X-Men books are NOT in short supply. There is no reason to overpay under any circumstances. Hope to see you soon at the shop, bub.
Yeah. I’ve been really enjoying his sales lately. You’ll be seeing another haul from him soon. Make sure to let him know I was cussing him out on here. Haha. Jk.
@@AlextheComicHoarder 🤣 I’m sure you’ll land on your feet. I have a pretty addictive personality so when I break a rule I feel like it can be a slippery slope. I gotta remind myself it’s all good and to try and stead back to the path toward my goal. But come on! It’s X-Men! You can’t go wrong! 😆
I like the smaller sellers on the platform. I don't care for some of the influencers. The C2E2 incident where some influencers snagged books and there were people still waiting in line to purchase them still sits with me. I value people high moral character.

Nice X-Men haul ‼️
I constantly break my own comic book rule - which is 1. “Don’t buy comic books”.
That is going to be my rule soon. Maybe we can motivate and keep each other accountable in that endeavor. I have a few more videos to make, then NO MORE MUTANTS…I mean comics.
😂
My new rule will be to buy more comic soon. I lost nearly my whole collection. A comic bookless life sucks. Lol
@@AlextheComicHoarder Just show this video to your son. How sad..
@@DDumbrille uh what's so sad?

Dude didn’t send them with boards? Weak. Nice haul though 👍

A nice lot. The condition is great so yup it was a good deal.

Nice books! The Xmen 193 is the first Firestar.
This comes off as a paid promotion for WhatNot...

Nice you actually wanted to try out WhatNot 👍 More importantly you want to give one of the books to your son ❤
Yes. I love that he is interested in the hobby. Makes me very happy.
Also Alex, ik whatnot is not your realm.. But I can most definitely see you on the app 😂😂 idk it would be fun
I’d for sure tune in.
I would hype the crap out of books. Haha.
Great pickups. But you're makin me feel old. I bought those uncanny X-Men off the shelf on release day for cover price. dont call me 'vintage'. 😉😆
I bought those at Kroger and Walgreens when I worked there as a teen. 😬
I have yet to buy from WhatNot...notice I said yet!
The challenge is to find the right dealer. Best of luck my friend.

Gotten my biggest books on what not for bargains
Can't wait to start my collection
What happened to my comment?🤔
Didn’t see it. Might have been held automatically.

Yeah, the shipping from this guy was cheap and he combined so that motivated me to keep buying.
very helpful, worth the watch
Great show guys, thank you
i've had 2 good buys from whatnot and even won a giveaway on there once. congrats on reaching over 11K subs, bro.
Thank you so much.
And tonight you are going to break your one rule!

Yeah. The early to mid 80s books are back with a vengeance. And I am really enjoying them because my son is getting into them.
Cool X-Men pickups!

I remember seeing the exact "James copy" on the wall at STL. Nice pickup!
Alex I always buy from that guy he has great stuff

Cool pick up man.
You’re not the only one breaking their own rules. Luckily, it’s all gonna be OK 😆
