  • Umesh Sharma, of Monash University, Australia, interviewed at a BILD PBS Conference, works for inclusive education, mainly at the systems level, teaching practices around children with behaviours of concern. Asst Professor Sharma speaks about he need to empower parents to implement PBS practice, "we believe parents are just consumers of a product but actually they need to be our partners and they're very willing to be our partners".
Early intervention should be the foundation in providing PBS, the moments a child begin demonstrating behaviours of concern is when intervention should begin in a consistent way. Parents understanding, on board and working in the same way in the home environment during a child's early years will increase the chances of addressing the fundamental issues. We need to empower parents to do this.
