Challenging behaviour: a unified approach was produced jointly by the Royal College of Psychiatrists, the British Psychological Society and Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists in 2007, and updated in 2016. The document sets out clinical and service guidelines for supporting people with learning disabilities who are at risk of receiving abusive or restrictive practices.
Dr Steve Noone of the Tyne & Wear NHS Foundation Trust, gives a very accessible explanation for the rationale behind the definition of behaviours that challenge that is found on page 10 of the document.
