I love Eddie in this performance. He looks like he's on the edge of laughing or something and just has this vibe that reminds me of Fred Astaire. I can't explain it. He's just smooth and seems to know something the rest of us need to figure out.
David Ruffin had more of the sultry, laid back ladies' man voice, Dennis had a funkier and more direct "in-your-face" singing style. However, you can't too many people today that can match the singing of those two. Both of them had a commanding presence.
I gotta give it to Paul Williams because even sick with Sickle cell, he still gave his all til the very end. I know there was an Unsung episode about Eddie Kendrick which was so sad and heartbreaking. TV One needs to do an Unsung on Paul Williams because I would really love to know Paul's story. I hope TV One does an Unsung on Paul Williams because despite having sickle cell and a drinking problem, Paul Williams really contributed to the Temptations and left his mark on music.
michelle67451 I agree wasn't easy while people on hear making hateful comments 😠 and Eddie was his best friend too and never know the pain he went through seeing his friend go through that..
Poor Paul. He is my favorite temptation. I like his voice the most and his groove when dancing. I find myself watching him throughout all the performances. These later videos make me sad seeing him like that.
Yes I watch him also make me teary eyed. He was the soul of the group . As humble guy funny too. No one would ever know how he suffered . Otis needs to be ashamed of himself for leaving out why he was drinking. He hinted that Paul came up with ,,2 moves when he was choreographing the dances till they hire Cholly Atkins I really didn't see anything new what he had done. Least they still kept done of Paul's steps.
Man, Dennis Edwards knocks this one out of the park !!!! He's the most underrated "replacement" to ever arrive in a band. I think he holds his own very well filling the shoes of David Ruffin. All the other Temps deliver hugely in this performance as well. What a treasure-of-a-film.
The three lead singers toured England in 1989 or 1990. David Ruffin, Eddie Kendricks and Dennis Edwards. I have the signed program from the tour signed by them all. I would love to have been there for those Concerts as they sang for the English Royality and to large crowds everywhere. When they got back within a month of so we lost David, then Eddie - but Thank the Good Lord Dennis is still with us. I love all these guys for what they mean to millions and millions of fans. Listening to The Temptations in a helicopter flying over the rice patties of Vietnam - man did that warm our hearts and help heal us a little from all our dead buddies. Roger C.
Thank you for saying that I just said that on another video. My nephew died from sickle cells and he suffered his whole life with it.He couldn't fly in airplanes ,had to carry an oxygen tank around with him.I wish the movie had focused on his medical illness because on every video of the Tempts someone is saying Paul was drunk.he may not be himself in some of the videos but he may have just been in pain.
Super professional singing groups are hard to beat and they are (forever). We had a lot of them and their soul and spirit is still around every time we play a song they come back and we come alive. These groups and their members can't help but be professionals.
You have to remember that Paul Williams suffered from Sickle Cell Anemia, a very painful disease. His singing and dancing was spot-on. A slight misstep at the end means nothing.
Thank Otis and there manger Shelly. They left out that the man suffered with a illness and also I don't believe he killed himself. 2 shots fired no gun powder on his body. Shot left side put used his right hand. Made him get undressed like he was running from someone. Then Otis said He has suicidal thoughts 2 months prior. Don't we all think about

I was glad that they did one on David too. There was so much more to him than that movie showed of him. Of course, that was just a movie so they pretty much take liberties to make it entertaining but they got it wrong on a lot of stuff.
