11/8 MARIO KART JAM

- A long time ago, I noticed that the "Winning Results" music from #MarioKart 64 was in 11/8. Which in it of itself is pretty hilarious to me - I don't think it's all too common for video game music to be in such an odd time signature (LOL). So for a long while, I've wanted to compose some kind of groove around this "song" (just for fun!), & I finally got around to it!
I don't play many video games, but I definitely played this one. It's one of the few games I can confidently say that I'm sick at. If I ever get the chance to play you, prepare to LOSE! (Lol amirite)
At ANY rate, I've been quite busy as of late. Can't say with what just yet, but as a result I haven't had a ton of extra time to make new videos. I've got several on deck, but can't upload those just yet either (for one reason or another). So for now, I hope you will enjoy this lil' 11/8 MARIO KART JAM (which I believe was originally written by Kenta Nagata)!
Mixing was done by GOOD BUDDY Anup Sastry. For any engineering & mixing work, please contact Anup using the email address below (!) -

This is my favorite dream theatre song
😂😂😂🙆🏻♂️
Same! 😆
Savage
😂
Haha😂😂
Ah yes, the "Mario Kart OST" is my favourite Technical Death Metal album.
@@caprimann87 technical death metal have these beats to
caprimann87 No, because jazz is gay and it’s too close to “jizz”
Controversial opinion, but agreed
The three stages I went through:
"Sick, an 11/8 remix of a Mario Kart song?"
"Oh, it's just the results screen."
"...OH MY GOD THE RESULTS SCREEN"
Odd time signatures are done best when you don’t know they’re odd time signatures, IMO.
You should tell Tool that 😂 they are so annoying.
TECHON TV they can be, yeah. But I didn’t realize “the patient” was in 5 for years. Seems obvious to me now, but in the beginning it just never stuck out to me as odd.
Animals as Leaders can make 4/4 sound like 23/16 lmao
alien hivemind cause of the polymeters between all of the instrumentalists.
Sting for sure is amazing at this.
Talk about checking YT at the perfect time
is that time... 11/8?
@@moonflow5133 Ba dum tsss...
at the time of my comment, your comment has 69 likes...nice...
Playing this game as a kid knowing nothing about music theory or odd meters I never knew why this tune sounded so weird, then I realized I had been listening to an 11/8 groove the whole time! MiNd BlOwN!!!!
Measures are just insane
Dude same
Japanese people...and they do the same in anime music...always virtuous in harmony and metrics, putting in shame all western music...
OMG EPIC
Today I learned: I've been being indoctrinated into liking proggy music since I was a wee babby
Never knew my childhood soundtrack was so musically complex
Results: Alex Rüdinger, 1st place.
The ghost notes at 0:47 repeated with the kick is 🔥
Great ear man, thanks for pointing it out. My enjoyment of this ‘cover’ noticeably rose.
Should have added the “secret” melody that happens after 64 loops
Seethi C what do you mean? I know in Super Mario World in the Special zone it does something like that. Never heard of it in anything else.
@@elementsofphysicalreality when you leave the results screen on for 64 loops another track plays
qrspeedruns damn I had no idea!! Gotta go check that out
As a drummer, this is one of those song you kept humming in your head with many drum loops in it. Thanks for this Alex.
It's currently proggy Rüdi time
"How does he sound so good" you might ask, part of it is the gear of course, but the most important thing to sound professional: tight timings. Not just landing on the one, but consistent interval on all notes.
Me and my long time drummer friend spent years trying to figure out what the kick/snare pattern was for this little tune after every Mario Kart race for the last 10 years and could never quite nail it. Kudos to you for dissecting it and absolutely killing this little cover man!
Love the double hi-hats! Such a badass groove, killer as always!
My favourite drummer jams to my favourite game😍
Sounds like a happy version of “Mouse on the Keys”
Not a drummer myself, but love jazz and music theory and also love this song from Mario Kart 64, and I gotta say this is the number one best UA-cam drum cover of anything I've ever heard.
This was wild!
Of course this is Adam, it's Alex playing.
Got to add that 64 in there my guy
Love it, buddy!😁 Waiting patiently for your upcoming uploads!😌👍
Amazing playing; great groove!
this is epic
Well this song was very pleasant to listen to! Such a nice setup you got this time as well!
I really like that all your splash cymbals have one mic each, maximal control haha!
As always was this sick Rüdi!
Awesome! My childhood!
I've always loved this tune! Great job putting a sick groove to it!
never thought id see you doing this kind of vids haha, great vid
Right? Personally I used to expect only WhiteChapel and Threat signal stuff.. Also Ordinance.. It's amazing how much more versatile and accurate he's becoming.
@@therocinante3443 Bro, where have you been? He's always been well versed in other genres that don't involve blast beats all day.
I had to play along to this. Too much fun dude. Great work as always
Love the variety you're putting out! Some good ol' fresh air from all the metal stuff as of late (which I love, don't get me wrong, but it's always good to see/hear some different stuff)!
Incredible, great job!
Amazing!!
This is absolutely brilliant
so many great things together, I'm speechless
This is SO GOOD!! whoah!
God bless the internet. Thanks Alex bud. This is something i never knew i needed until now
So happy to see this. This blew my mind back in the day and once I learned it as a drummer, it's like I could finally breathe.
Again, an excellent job!
That was absolutely awesome lol I love this kind of stuff
Beautiful
I love this so much ❤️
And here I was thinking, "Alex Rüdinger, he's an awesome tech drummer but I won't watch more of his videos because it makes me hate my own drumming". And then I see he also plays video game songs - drawing me right back in. You're awesome, dude! Keep it up. You're an INSPIRATION. Fuck. So good.
dude this is amazing
Awesome bro. Love the Accuracy of your playing! Pleasure to watch and listen.
That kit sounds absolutely gorgeous man. One of my favourite so far. The balance in the kicks to cymbals is perfect. Bravo! Fantastic playing too man.
You'd be surprised at how many songs from video games are in odd times. I know there's some tracks from Hot Shots Golf in 7/4, and I think there's a FInal Fantasy XIII track in 11/8 too.
Incredible fills ! 😮
Freakin" killer! Great playing brother!
That is exactly my tempo.
This is outstanding dude
Awesome as always. :D
Instantly subscribed. Holy talent.
Your kit sounds so good! Love the video game covers too \m/
YESSSSSS!!!!!! always loved this song
Such a clean sounding snare🤘
Fak dude, this brings me WAY back, and also I get to see my favorite drummer. Kick ass, dude!
A pure Fusion ! 🔥
Hella versatile. Great stuff.
That was so clean 👏🏾
Awesome!
Finally someone does this, I've been jamming with this song for years!
Woooooow , aweosome in so many levels!!!
Perfect!!!
I haven't seen many drum covers of video game music, but this is probably the most amazing one I've ever seen. Simply awesome!
This is amazing
AWESOME! Love it!!
Hot damn these drums are tuned and mic’d to literal perfection. Sick groove man.
Ganondorf theme Ocarina of time next! Somehow even crazier time signature.
Ganandorf battle, to be clear. Its something like 13/16 + 5/8. Would love to hear that as well.
@@h3mis yeah it's 23/16, or how you wrote it
Spot on!
Superb
Fuck yeah, I love both Super Mario sound tracks and your playing. This was most fun to watch, do more!
That's a very classy groove!
Nice work!
Great way to start the day
This is sick!
This is so cool!! 😆
So so good.
Never even noticed this song was in 11/8 until now. Great playing!
Brilliant
Bravo!
This is the greatest drum cover ever, and that music in the results screen is absolutely memorable because of the TIMING!!
Great respect of timing!
Great !!
Hi ALex , that is some fine drumming!
F**k yeah dude! That was awesome
Epic
I cannot explain how clean this is
It works surprisingly well!
Oh Man! That was sick 🤟
This is becoming game changing level
Well this was amazing.😀
Holy hell, this sounds good in 11/8! Might have to add this to my list of favorite time signatures.
Nailed it 👍
These are a few of my favorite thingggssss 🎶
Best recommended ever
Nice! \m/ Loved it
That was very cool.
11 is soooo fun to jam out to. Always liked this tune!
That watermark logo is a really nice touch. Great job, this tune is so nostalgic to me.😄
So glad Nintendo music was more adventurous then it seems like it needed to be. Probably the limitations of what one could do on the chips made the composers look away from the usual musical pillars, of harmony to make something stand out. I know ingested more then my share of this music when I was a kid and it Had a big influence on the way I think of music these days and write music these days. Fun stuff! Thanks for the vid !
