I think there's a big difference between the wilderness being active and being healthy.
Yes, multi revs was more populated but it was not worth it for small teams or solo players. It wasn't really a place to PK like it is now, it was a gold farmer's and clan paradise. The best you could do was drive bys with some friends if you weren't in a huge clan (those were pretty fun). Essentially, wipe out the world before they can call in reinforcements in mass and destroy you. Apart from that, it was just accepted that a few massive clans locked down multiple worlds.
Even if it was more spread out and required a higher fee, it's inevitable that that kind of crap would return.
And I don't see any way of stopping that unless revs were not worth it anymore... in which case it would just be another dead on arrival update.
I think they had this in rs3? I'm not sure... but a stronger version of maledictous in random worlds and differing spots in multi could be a nice way to satiate some of that multi bloodlust while hindering the clans that simply lock down worlds discouraging smaller friend groups/clans from multi.
It would take some work to find it, and should be pretty hard to kill it alone (unlike the one now) but if it has slightly better loot and a good chance of action? I think some people would find it worthwhile to camp the wild in different worlds with their friends.
I would only pk there with small teams lol what are you smoking? It was heaven for small teams. Even skillspecs would pk there solo every other day.
For small teams it was still very fun. The barrier to pvp was so low for rev caves which meant you could bring friends that have never pked before and they'd still have a good time. I got my raiding friend group to try it out and for the next few weeks all they wanted to do was go to the caves. I also think Jagex proved they're capable of making a multi location that cant be held down easily (wildy bosses rework) so I have faith that a new multi revs area could be done correctly.
@poisonedpotion yeh I get that. I was in those small groups that came and cleared a world.... but if u kept doing that (idk about ur experience) you would eventually get smoked.

It was possible to escape them, but as soon as they realized what u were doing (the whole drive by thing) u and ur small team would get smoked

@@poisonedpotion 100% agree with what you're saying and it seems a lot of the feedback that goes against Revs multi are from people scared to enter wilderness or who never had interest in it anyway, I know hundrds of Pkers and ive never heard one of them say that they think removing multi from revs was a good thing, in fact it was the nail in the coffin that made even more of my friends quit. whereas if it stayed multi i doubt anyone would have quit over it. so in theory Jagex lost good paying players when they didnt have to.
Just the fact that Jagex made a RoT member a JMod is fucking MINDBLOWING

Multi revs brought in a low skill entry to pking that taught even gold farmers how to use their prayers, tank gear, triple eat and how to pk.
Something like this brings many more new pkers to the game than BH which is spec dumping and running. I also think the playerbase changed to where something has to have gp tied to it. I remember pre-eoc there would be tons of people multi pking on the BH worlds or even early on in f2p just going to fog or hills with massive teams and fighting it out. if you teled out you were kicked or bsed lol

Nah you're wrong. Almost nobody enjoys tribridding. Something like BH will always attract more people than NHing.
@@isaacjacob3590 we had pvp worlds with singles pking prior to BH and we had 3 or 4 iterations of BH. Not one iteration of BH popped as much as the rev caves. Rev caves brought pvmers and made them learn how to tank basic pk. And most people at the caves hybrid although the better teams ran tribridding setups

I like the idea of a hidden mechanic that takes players years to discover, like the skulled loot buff. Obviously Jed selectively sharing the info was bad, but those types of hidden mechanics bring a lot to the game in my view.

Multi revs was horrendous at its clan racketering peak you couldn't be in the caves for more than 5 minutes without a team of 20+ logging in and piling you. There's nothing engaging about 20 specs being dumped on your head and it doesn't encourage anyone to improve at PvP. Singles plus has worked well people have learnt to defend themselves and the standard is also increased for attackers. Think it's been one of the best updates the wildy has had
This isn't an argument over what is better, multi or singles. It's an argument that the wilderness is at it's peak activity when there is a popular multi location. Like I said in the video, love or hate it, multi revs was peak wildy activity. Even if you took out every single gold farmer and massive clan it still was the most popular the wilderness has ever been.
I had a group of friends who would only do raids 1. I took them to the caves and after one trip they only wanted to do revs for the next few weeks. It was an insanely fun way to get into pvp and most people just don't know that because they didn't participate in it
@@poisonedpotion respectfully I disagree. The reason revs was "active" was because it was the best GP/hr in the game. The racketering took away high risk and just left high reward for those that participated in it. I genuinely believe there are more legitimate players in the rev caves now than at the height of the racketering. (Ie excluding gold farmers and racketeers). I do agree multi has benefits but it simply can't be tied to a miles clear best money maker or XP rate as it will be exploited. I think the chaos alter is a perfect balance it offers a slight edge to those willing to take a risk and sees plenty of use although I agree it probably should be a little harder to do single invent runs.
@randomshotz13 it's necessary for it to be close to some of the best money makers, or else there is no point in doing it. Just like anything else in the wilderness. I agree, it shouldn't be better than raids gp/h but it should be just below it. If some requirements need to be met so that it can't be done at a very low combat level, then that's fine.
And I can say without a shadow of a doubt that there were at least 5x more legitimate players in multi revs than there are in the Rev caves now. I'd bet my life savings on it. The number of friend groups that formed into small teams was massive. All of them disappeared in an instant when multi revs got removed. Entirely because multi had nothing but revs.
Now I'm not going to argue that multi revs should have stayed the same. I stated in the video that its design was easily abusable. I'm just saying that another area like multi revs needs to be done again. It's the best way for players to get into pvp, it's the best way to have fun with friends in wildy (or the entire game imo) and multi should be more rewarding than it currently is.
@@poisonedpotion I agree there needs to be more worthwhile multi in the wilderness and I think Jagex does too, with the wildy boss rework moving in that direction. I know that revs was vibrant for a while but honestly you're kidding yourself if by the end you still think there were many small groups of friends exploring the dungeon. Before it got removed it was nothing but a gold mine which the average player even with a friend or two was incapable of enjoying (hence it's rework). Recently I see dozens of players in every world either PKing, slaying revs in small groups or just low risking it by themselves, it's not quite the same as stumbling on a massive clan war in the caves but it feels like a larger percentage of the player base is enjoying their existence than towards the end of the multi days. New multi will have to be rewarding but not 25% better than every other method in the game.
I think the concept of Multi is broken period. Single combat, one versus one, simple, normal for most of the game. Multi combat is just how many players attacking you as can fit in that render distance without crashing the Servers.

You don't need raggers to lock down an area with a multi team, and it isn't practical to make an area so big that it cannot be locked down. If there is something worth camping with a multi team, players will always find a way to camp it.
I think the solution is to surround areas with multi, so the multi teams control the boarders to an area, but not the actual area itself. Another potential fix is 'doubles' or 'triples' multi areas, which would still allow small teams to participate and not get pushed out by larger clans.

for some, yes. For wilderness activity, no. It DID need to be changed, but I'm surprised that nothing has even come close to taking it's place since.

I'm still certain I got hacked by Jed, never been hacked in my RuneScape days, started in 03 too. I had 2 step everything, managed to by-pass all of this + bank pin. I wasn't the most wealthy player but had about 1.5b at the time all of which was gone, however all my none tradables was still there. Surely baffled me at the time but putting 2 and 2 together it makes sense.
doubt he went for people without expensive rsn's or massive wealth. 1.5b isn't too much and hasn't been since 2016 or so on osrs.

Oh wow, that's funny... And quite interesting... I was actually hacked during that period of time...
I have never shared my password with anyone; I never used third partyes clients; I never botted; I don't have my password written anywhere.
Although i can't point out to who hacked me, i know a few things about it: My bank password was the same as when i last logged in; My account password was not changed; My e-mail was not "touched"; My steam account (although i rarely used it and never actually connected to runescape with it) was ok as well...
That being said, my character was placed in lumbridge, with no valluables on the bank, with a clear history on the GE with the selling of my itens... Although sad, still, at least now i'm a bit more relieved knowing that maybe my account wasn't "hacked" by some random dude...

At the time it was an impressive quest. I do agree with you, though. MM2 has to be one of my least favorite quests. And DS2 blew it completely out of the water as far as grandmaster quests go
@@poisonedpotion I'm not a big fan of the quests in general, since they're all more of a 'follow this guide or be stuck in an endless loop of looking for whatever it is you're supposed to make sense of' gameplay, compared to more interactive and figuring out kind of playstyle in most mmo's, but after recently finishing mm2 for the first time I can honestly say it deserves all the hate it gets. These kind of quests aren't even that long or interesting but just rely on failing and punishing the player long enough to make it longer (if they don't quit out of frustration in the process)
