If you really want the OG Pocket and you intend on rigging it out, get the Blackmagic Micro Cinema Camera. It's got the same sensor as the OG pocket but it lacks the screen. The benefits of this camera is the it uses Canon LPE6 batteries which last longer and are still sold today, it has a full sized HDMI port so no need for weird cables or adapters, it can do 60fps so it opens up some slow-mo options, and also it has a compressed RAW codec, so you get the benefits of RAW at a smaller file size. Yes these cameras are amazing, but they are a hassle to use, but we use them because the picture quality is just that good. So do some research and find out which one works best for you!
I too have a BMMCC and a P4K. The Micro is not near as popular as the Pocket OG. Even though the 4K is a wonderful camera, I just enjoy the experience and image of the Micro, and use it more often.
@@raduionut78 honestly I’d love an OG just to have the screen on the back. I don’t use the 60 FPS so an OG would be perfect but I do enjoy the image out of the micro. They are all great cameras though no matter how you shake it. Just wonderful over all.
I totally agree with what you said especially having a film look immediately right out of the camera, the organic look is very beautiful. I love this camera and I hope I can make some real film using it, instead of just experimenting or travel.
I want one. This will be my next camera. I go to Raves and be in the mosh pits. This is small enough to sneak in to get footage. Small enough to be in the mosh pit. I just wanna break the rules.
I had the OG for a while and it was like fighting with a sibling the entire time. I loved the image but the work involved in minimizing the micro jitters drove me crazy.
Most definitely! The Panasonic GH4 has great 1080p, a hacked GH2 can shoot HD at 150mbps (depending on which hack is used), and the Canon EOS M with the Magic Lantern firmware hack can shoot 14-bit RAW 1080p, as well as higher resolutions in cropped modes. 👍🏾👍🏾
I’ve never had or used the OG Pocket Camera, but I do have the Pocket 4K, which I absolutely love! I’ve been thinking about getting a second 4K camera eventually, but I also considered getting the OG Pocket to help out and to save some money. I’m a commercial and advertising producer, so I shoot lots of footage. A cinema camera isn’t what’s required for my job, but it helps give my clients the Hollywood look they want.
lack of 4K... I still believe that almost nobody (or really nobody) is able to differenciate a good and detailed 1080p, properly superscaled image with the a 4K image taken with the same conditions. if those are watched on the same 4K tv without allowing to zoom in to the picture until pixel level details (I mean watching the full-width pictures on full screen). Unfortunately I don't have the full equipment to make it done for testing, but maybe I will somehow figure it out because I myself would be also interested in the results
Well said! btw. I have own this camera since 2013 I bought it just for the reason you talked about. I haven't used it in years. I am hoping in the next year get the time to do some personal projects, and this will be the camera I use.
Love the video, been tossing up buying one as a "point & shoot". As someone who has a massive 6k pro rig, I kinda wanna chuck a helios 44M on the OG and have some fun. Loved your vibe too btw, super engaging & down to earth. Keep it up!!
people with camera's need to understand the basic fundamentals of film that way you will stop spending your money on unnecessary gear that you don't need. great video and analytics bro✌
amazing images and presentation !!!! Subbed ! Now i have to explain to my bank account why we're buying a 2013 camera 😂 always been on the fence but this convinced me
Good points : it's tiny, it smells nice, use SD card Drawbacks : no 4K, no 50p, horrible rolling shutter, super short battery life. Menu navigation is clumsy.
Fantastic review! I love your reviewing style. The BMPCC OG camera is truly powerful. Also, could you kindly send that less important item next to the lamp to my address? 😉😁
I imagine this camera on a gimbal whith a dummy battery. If they make this camera in another body whith good batery life, only full hd... i just get one.
👍🏾👍🏾Excellent Work, Nate, thanks for this!! I still have mine; I really love its image. Best Wishes to you. You're Awesome, man. Instant subscribe from me, hehe. Peace.
I don’t see anybody use the battery that came with the camera, they’re all use the third party ones, plenty of options to choose as well, and they’re so cheap nowadays.
@@P00P2OO but even those third party NPs are terrible on depletion. Yeah you can rig it to an external but your pocket camera is no longer a fit inside your pocket lol

Beautiful footage showcasing that craft>specs/big sensors
Finally someone specifies what kind of raw this has thank you
I have a Blackmagic micro cinema camera and a pocket 4k. I use the BMMCC more. It has the same sensor as this camera. It looks absolutely amazing!!!!

I love the image from old Blackmagic cameras, I have a BMCC 2.5K and I love it.
I had the OG for a while and it was like fighting with a sibling the entire time. I loved the image but the work involved in minimizing the micro jitters drove me crazy.
I hear you.😂
i'm still fighting with our brother then ;)
Wow! Thar fact that 1080 can still produce an amazing image in 2023 is just great.

This is awesome! And yes, love that BMPCC OG!
Thank you!
Your shots just look so cinematic
Short battery life is a great way to simulate shooting film. Plus the RAW images have that dreamy Super16 look right out of the camera.
I have one of these I got second hand, but the real magic is when I pair it with my old bolex macro switar lenses. it really shines.
Excellent video bro!
great video man!
Thank you!

Great video. Long live the bmpcc
Thank you!
Great video!!!
Thank you!!
I own three of them and yes it is and will be for ever, next is the BMCC 2.5 k. Never upgrade them do not loose the cinema dmg
forever !!! Timeless !!!
Loved this vid! Welcome on yt mate 🎉❤ new sub!
Thank you, I appreciate it!
The shots at 2:57, which lens for those shots? They look fantastic.
Great video. Love the OG.
Thank you!
Wow. Your footage looks great! How did You grade it?
Thank you! I’ll be releasing a video on how I grade soon.
why do people leave the sensor exposed? I dont get it.
Keep going! Your videos are gonna catch- they’re way too good not to! Ps- I love my OG there’s really nothing like it.
Thanks man!
5:30 Average Canon 1080 "line skipping" (720p) footage VS real cinematic 1080p
the image from this camera is amazing!... have you tried anamorphic lens with it?
I haven’t, but I really want to.
i wish someone would sell whole setup to use this camera as it should be ... rig , battery, viewfinder and etc..
I know! It would sure make things easier :)

True! Thank you!
awsome video! what lens did you use for the shots at 6:25?
Thank you! I used my Sigma 18-35.

Nice review
Thank you!
Hello! Could you tell me which memory card to use in this camera? I can't find any compatible ones.

How do you do your color grade? Thanx
I'm hoping to make a video on that soon, so stay tuned.
@@natebrewer04 that would be so great! Thanx
is it possible you can post a place where we can find rigs and this for this camera? Hard to find a lot for this camera
These are more likely sold at 600-700 usd. 400 usd is very rare
Great video! New sub here

@@natebrewer04 I really appreciate it 😂
How do you deal with avoiding noise in shadows? Are you ETTR or ?
I often leave the shadows a little bit noisy (mainly because NR is hard on my Mac) but in some situations where the noise is too much, I add NR.
Yes❤
I imagine this camera on a gimbal whith a dummy battery. If they make this camera in another body whith good batery life, only full hd... i just get one.
i think the sigma FP is the new version of this.
what about external monitor / recorder?
As in, what do I use, or my recommendations?

@@natebrewer04 Very Welcome, Bro! :)
I love mine, and I have 10 times more expensive cameras, this still is special
People who hate this camera are youtube videographers, not cinematographers...even Shane Hurlbut praises it.
Preach! :)
Yes, I haven't watched the video but yes
At my copy the display disintegrates.
Mine too, it's pretty frustrating.
Every where I look this thing is going for 700 minimum.
It is not worth! Moire aliasing grid pattern bad rolling shutter....makes no sense
Simple answer no. Battery lasts literally 15 minutes
With wasabi battery, mine last around 30min
very easy to adapt external battery… plus I have 4 batteries in my pocket, so battery is not a real issue.
I thought it figuratively lasted 15 minutes.
No
Go buy a sony 😂
No... Clearly.
Hey, Nate! Cool work! We'd like to collaborate, how can we get in touch? :)
