Hello david funk😊 Im korean, serving bass for my church and i've been desperate for bethel's bass tone for 4 years, so I've heard a lot of your church's service and worship, and study so hard. Now I can make the tone I've dreamed of. Thank you very much for your videos❤❤
A lot of the frequencies that distort on a bass are much higher in frequency than the fundamental so in a mix you might not attribute the harmonic richness to the bass. If you get a chance to hear an isolated bass track on a song like ‘Holy Forever’ you’d be amazed how effected the bass gets towards the end of the song without it feeling that extreme in the context of the mix.
Super helpful! You should do full song production. Or a abilton live keys setup that’s in-depth for us beginners looking for that fantastic bethal keys sound!
Quick question. What’s the reason for the gaps in insert slots for the bass channel? Is it related to the sound you’re getting or more of a workflow thing?
Hey David, I’m in my starting phases of understanding bass tone so maybe a dumb question but why do you aim for so much fuzz/distortion? Is it so the bass punches through in the mix with the full band?
basically yes! and because it’s fun haha. but mainly for the increased mid range in bigger moments to poke through - as long as you’re not losing low end.
Hey, David! Quick question for ya. I’ve noticed you guys have an Orange bass amp on stage for the services. Do you or the boys actually use it? If yes, how so?
Good insights. Has the starting point of my Luke Hendrickson broadcast template with some extras. Do you change the R-Bass frequency according to the key of a song/set or just leave it at 44 (which does sound nice)?
exactly! Luke is the best. I don't usually change it depending on key .. maybe i'll move it around between 40-50 Hz if it feels like it needs to shift a little. Great question!
I'd possibly do a deep dive on that ... Check out my Novation Launch Control video if you want to hear my at least quickly scroll through my patches! ua-cam.com/video/e9R9scNWw7A/v-deo.html
DAVID FUNK you should get an hx stomp and try and recreate your tone! That would help us folks out who don't have a whole pedalboard!
Tanner’s presets from Tone Factor are similar.
Yes, please :)
You should check out Tone Factor! They have presets from a lot of the other Bethel bass players.

Should make a video mixing a song from start to finish! This is soooo helpful!!
Very cool to hear just the bass and drums. When I listen to a full Bethel mix, I wouldn't have guessed the bass was that crunchy. Thanks!

@@taviswardlaw Good to know thanks!
"Huge swaths of frequencies..." was my favourite line. The delivery was 👌🏻
😂😂 had to keep it in
This is wonderful! this really captures the essence of the low end of that Bethel/gable price and friends low end. I dig it!
thank you!!
I didn't know how much i wanted to see your bass tone videos until now! Well done!

Great stuff dude keep making these!
This is beyond clutch 🙏🏽
Thanks for part two!
Would love to see you do something similar for EG post processing🙏
Okey, so... I just love this! Way to go! Bless! I will come over from Sweden for the leadership conference. Hope to see you there!

Noted!
Sooo good!
would love to see songs you’ve produced broken down on ableton/logic/pro tools and which plug ins you use when producing a worship song !
yeah this is awesome , always wondered how you dialed in your bass tone when listening to you playing bass on sundays !
Best video ever 🔥🔥🔥🔥
thanks so much!
About time
Dude your tone literally makes me want to drop the guitar and start playing bass. 🤣
hahha mission accomplished
This is amazing man! Thankyou
LETS GOOO!! 🔥🙌🏼
Never occurred to me to use the SC as a tightening tool. Nice!
it’s cause you’ve never delivered a sloppy performance so you’ve never needed it!
Can you make a video how you Get good acoustic guitar Tone?🔥
If you want a Greely secret, use blackbox or scheps 73 to add extra distortion.
i loooove the black box when mixing for sure. that’s a staple. need to check out the scheps 73!
@@thedavidfunk_ Scheps 73 is a Waves plugin so it can be used live with Soundgrid. Fourier and Waves Livebox are about to be a game changer though.
Hey do you have any specific setups for acoustic guitar that you could share? Would love to see a video on your acoustic guitar tone
O mestre!!
Super Helpful
If you produce whole tracks for the albums, could you show us a little of that process?
Thank you :)
goat 🐐
🙏🏼
In some ways I kind of like the bypassed plugins one better 😮
Where you been?! 😂
ight now you gotta do a play through of forever yhwh
So helpful!! Do you have a mix template available?
i don’t but i’ve thought about it for sure!
@@thedavidfunk_ I'd definitely be interested!

just a workflow thing - doesn't affect the sound at all! just a weird habit i guess hah

Hey, David! Quick question for ya. I’ve noticed you guys have an Orange bass amp on stage for the services. Do you or the boys actually use it? If yes, how so?
we do! it’s a tiny terror i think? it’s mainly just for stage feel - we mic it but we mainly rely on the DI signal. too much drum bleed anyway. haha
Sweet
Hey David! Is there anyway I could get in contact with you regarding producing a whole song?
yeah; feel free to shoot me an email: dave@thedavidfunk.com
@@thedavidfunk_sent it, can you check it out?
