Marciac (France)
Wynton Marsalis (trumpet), Walter Blanding (sax), Victor Goines (sax), Dan Nimmer (piano), Carlos Henriquez (bass), Jason Marsalis (drums).
Ellis Marsalis.....Unfortunate that he’s no longer with us, but he left this
world with wonderful legacy behind him.
The sax players went in hard like they were challenging for a spot in the band. I LOVED IT!
Damn that pianist is setting the standard!
RIP Ellis. A true legend.
OH MY FUCKING GOD THAT HAS TO BE ONE OF THE BEST BASS SOLOS EVER ON JAZZ!!!!!!
Reymono563 your right
I love how Carlos Hendriquez sings the his solo as he's playing it
Yeh he gets so into it
+Atticus Shipstone that's what I love about these guys is that it's not just music to them it's so much more
I agree. What a fine Bassist!
I loved the way Carlos Henríquez accompanied his solo with a whisper.
I love the music of Wynton Marsalis, and his late father too. This morning I heard about the passing of Ellis Marsalis, and all I can say, is that I had tears in my eyes, and I couldn't stop crying. RIP Ellis!
R.I.P. Maestro Ellis Marsalis Sr.
If I don’t hear this song a 100 times a day, I loose my mind. Incredible composing, arrangement, and performance.
I AM SO IMPRESSED WITH YOUNG DAN NIMMER'S PIANO PLAYING. BY CLOSING HIS EYES WHILE HE IS PLAYING ALLOWS HIM TO REACH DEEP INSIDE OF HIMSELF TO FEEL THE DEPTHS OF ELLIS MARSALIS' MUSIC. WONDERFUL COMPOSITION AND WYNTON MARSALIS DOES THIS PIECE GREAT HONOR. ALL OF THESE MUSICIANS PLAY MUSIC LIKE THERE IS NO TOMORROW AND THEY HAVE TO GET IT ALL IN TONIGHT. I LOVE THIS MUSIC. THANKS FOR SHOWING IT ON YOUTUB. KEEP THE MUSIC PLAYING! SYLVIA! -FL 03/01/2021
Band does a great job not losing steam during the bass solo. Hot the whole way through.
10/10 singing bass
Blanding and Goines' dueting and trading fours from 7:34 - 10:00 is amazing.
Yes. Both masters of their instrument.
That Nimmer is underrated should be the understatement of the year.
that piano player...Damn.
Ip N ...yepp, @1:35 I 😁
Ip N roight ?
You mean ..... Dan
Watching this on 4/2/20 with a heavy heart. RIP Mr. Ellis.
Just Amazing and gifted musicians , nothing but love for them.
Back again.I never get tired of listening to this.Beautiful melody and great playing by all.Bass solo is killing.🤗

SeanLeonDrums a great tune by a great group!
Dan Nimmer is Incredible 🥺🥺😳😳
R.I.P...
Ellis Marsalis
I am a huge fan of your im 17 nd im a trumpet player and rookie jazz player and a proud student of minor high school in Adamsville alabama...we dnt only have one of the a award winning marching, symphonic, concert, and two wonderful jazz bands....i would love it if would come like give a mini clinic or some to our jazz, symphonic, and concert band
Wow those tenor saxes killed it at the end there when they both played, super awesome!
2:20 🤯! Who would wanna play behind that?!?
HAPPY BIRTHDAY WYNTON!
Todos eles são incríveis.
Wynton com JLCO ou quinteto, eu não me canso de ouvir todos os dias!!!
Super super fantástico!!
Pianist Dan Nimmer reminds me of guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughn -- he just gets in the zone and summons power from a higher source. Even Wynton's facial expression was "whoa..."
For those of you who haven't played much music(especially jazz), but enjoy to listen, it should be noted that Carlos Henriquez (the bassist) singing with is solo is very impressive; he is able to play the idea he is singing as it is on his bass, something that many people never come close to being able to do on any instrument.
Superbe concert....Public heureux !!!
Thank you for killing us with joy and this brilliance and magical moments!!!!
Rest In Peace ✌🏽
Great piece ! Wonderful !
Loved all the solos---Blown away by Dan Nimmer, and the drumming was excellent throughout !
Plus I love and admire Wynton Marsalis for everything he is and does. Deepest respect !❤️
Fantastici......
Oh hell yes
Amazing pianist right there ladies and gentlemen
6:46 looks like wynton is wearing a Virtual Reality headset... great tune
ByronAllen LMAO
hahahah
Lmao 😂😂😂
Maravilloso Carlos Henríquez el mejor bajista del mundo
Great arrangement! I wore this Fathers and Sons album out and am looking for it on UA-cam! I transcribed A Joy Forever composed by me Marsalis also. Tenors both are great, Branford first time playing Tenor on record! He played Alto with Blakey.
9:17 is perfect
Wow! So nice I watched it twice.
Many people don’t know this, but the best musician on that stage is Jason Marsalis on Drums. I have seen him live, listened to how he plays, and he astounds me every time. While wynton has contributed so much to the jazz scene, both Ellis and I know that the unappreciated talent lies in Jason.
R.I.P., educator!
all of them sound so good i think
I like how the bass player is kind of singing his solo while playing it! HAHAHA
+Jared R no kind of ,o
Beautiful composition
Maestros!
Awesome !
i wish i could take a lesson with Wynton. anything even to just sit down and talk with him. whatever could help me with my playing. Id give anything
I got to meet up with him and it's amazing! I really hope you get a chance to meet him. He's incredibly humble and awesome. He has such a deep connection with his music it's amazing. He spoke to me about a song he was writing that was kind of like a love story but not one between a man and woman. Really hope you get to experience chatting with this jazz legend man.
In the meantime keep listening.
Attend one of his LIVE concerts, then hang around long afterward to meet him --and don't forget to bring your instrument!
oh shit goines is the guy who arranged half my jazz band pieces
Did not know Mr. Bean could play such swinging piano.
Good one.
That’s Dan Nimmer!!!! Put some respect on his name!!!!!
we can explain anything by langage whatever we cannt play performance.

THATS TOP SHELF!
No hay banda, cada uno es increible, pero no hay banda
congratuletions very very good
Tight!
very nice
MUITO BOM
Sounds quite a bit like something Tom Harrell would write! Fantastic performance.
Kinda has that McCoy Tyner sound a little
That's thanks to the piano player. To me it seems like the tune is inspired by Bill Evans
wowowowowowowowowowowow
Amazing solos all around. But can I just say the Vandoren fanboy gets me all riled up. Yes I know he's probably sponsored.
This is swinging!!!...You cant beat modern jazz..
those keys
Does the solo form start on Cmaj7 or Ebmaj7 because when they played the head they started on the Cmaj7 but during solos it feels like the top of the form is the Ebmaj7.
mfabbo starts on Cmaj7, but the form feels a little weird when you first start playing it. Starts and ends with that Cmaj7
I wish the bass was a bit louder.
It defeats the purpose of the bass in a jazz band. The tone and volume is just right in my opinion. Just right to make carlos henriquez sing with it.
Sounds like the original intro to Late Night with Conan Obrien, but cooler.
The Bernie Mac show brought me here
7:15 McBride?
break up my bass and use it for kindling
jazz4asahel mood after hearing this
Is Ali Jackson no longer in JALCO?
John Alvarez Of course he is he just wasn't on this gig.
😥
Dan Nimmer makes Bruce Flowers seem slow....
Dan Nimmer => Briljant first solo!
Wowwwww Dan Nimmer is uh pretty tense. Keith Jarrett isn't even that tense actually gosh
Daniel Natzke he’s just gone away into his zone.
q salado
