The exact right take on this. Media is milking it and sustaining their social presence on this. I can think of several. Sick of hearing the question on post-game interviews. Give it a rest. There's guys on every team who don't get along. The two are very different character.
@@CoopHawke Like THG says, way too much discussion. The constant questions about it will do nothing. They won't get an answer from the players. Maybe the press could focus on the Canucks doing something about the D.
I just read Patrick Johnston’s latest article and I couldn’t help thinking what a f*cking tool. He dedicated a good chunk of it to praising media as the voice of fans… and since everything is expensive in this economy (no kidding?) the players should be there to answer all reporter questions post-game cos tix are expensive or something? I’m all for criticizing the on ice play of Petey and Miller but if Petey gets annoyed at reporter questions or Miller decides not to be there at all… so what? The article is basically him telling fans not to criticize media because “they are us” 😆 Again Petey/Miller deserve criticism but the likes of PJ acting like they are doing altruistic work on behalf of us regular fans is hilarious.
@sooptime what do you mean? They did finally answer the questions. Also if they want this stuff private then they should have kept it private. It's completely unprofessional to let personal issues affect job performance especially when you make the kind of money they do and are public facing figures.
@@CoopHawke The D is the issue for them. If they were not struggling so much the EP and JT issue would be lessened. I agree, they are professional, highly paid, adults and they need to sort out whatever the differences are and get their shit together. They work it out like professionals or one gets unloaded, if it gets that far.
The ONLY thing against Miller is his age. He makes less money, he plays much, much better. The playoff series last year was a HUGE example, he’s the #1 C of this team, etc…. Petey is soft as tissue paper, while Miller actually stands up. I know for a damn fact that, even Garland is more useful and noticeable than #40.
@@Eleutherios1 Remember when “pEtEy” had like 5 goals in like 60-70 games, some crazy statistic like that. JT Miller was leading charge with Hughes, with Lank, with Garland, etc….. Where was #40 then? Can’t pull the “injury excuse” this time. Miller maybe outspoken, but trust me. People will respect that, more than a guy who makes big money, doesn’t give 100% each night, looks lost/lazy, etc…..
If Miller learnt how to back check I'd say he is better. But he refuses to play in his own end. At least Petterson can play good defensive hockey when he isn't scoring
I agree with another commentator, there is a common denominator with Miller having rifts with Delia, Schenn, Petterson, and Horvat. Only one of those four guys is still around. I can understand frustrations with Delia or even Schenn but having a public rift amongst the captaincy level with Horvat and Pettersson is not good. I really wonder if JT costed the Canucks a captain.
Thanks, for the great insight! I live out of the country and I like to try and keep up to date with the Canucks. I feel that this year I have no idea where this team came from, there are so many new guys, and many are doing great. I would love to see a video of who this years team is, where they came from, and where there are going.... If you can.... thanks again for all.
He's supposed to say, "Are we best friends? No. But that doesn't mean we don't respect each other and want to do the best we can for the team. We both share the same goal that the whole team does, we want this team to win." Then when he gets asked if it's a distraction he's supposed to say, "No. No it's not a distraction. Honestly, the only time this rumour gets talked about within the team is when we are being interviewed. Which I understand why since it's such a strong hockey market and every potential rumour could be a story. But no, it's not a distraction for anyone on the team. I think we have some on ice issues as a team we need to figure out so we can play like we know we can play." Now, this might be asking a lot from someone who has just lost a game but at the same time, it comes with the job. It also might be asking a lot of a player who's first language isn't english. Which is a fair point. But, it's on the Canucks to either help their players learn how to talk with the media or just don't let their players talk to the media. I don't like the latter. The media are always going to ask these questions because these stories get clicks. People make comments and posts with these topics. So, it's best to know it and answer things in a way that doesn't give the clickbait headlines.
I think the reason it's the "sexy" topic is because it's not two 3 million dollar players. It's a 20 million dollar feud that is potentially hurting the performances of two guys needing to contribute more to justify their allotment of cap space.
As a Jets fan, It's a really nice time to be alive right now... There's talk of toxic locker room and bad chemistry in a locker room besides our own!!! Merry Christmas everybody!!
I agree that postgame interviews - press availability in general - is completely uninteresting. Players these days are savvy enough to know that if they don't choose their words carefully, what they say will get blown out of proportion and they'll look bad. Even if they do choose their words carefully, they know it will happen anyway. The only postgame pressers I've enjoyed in the past 15 years were Darryl Sutter trolling the reporters (Dustin Penner could do the same, when he got the chance).
In my eyes you are about as true a hockey fan as anyone can be. In a town of bandwagon fans as ruthless and turncoat as can be. Canada Russia 1972 Phil Esposito post game interview after 5-3 loss in Vancouver. Does anyone remember? I sure as heck do.
Do these things sometimes get overblown? Absolutely. But these locker room problems an absolutely sink a team. I’m an Avs fan, and I’m happy for Matt Duchene finding success elsewhere, but it was also better for the team when he got traded
I can't believe that there was even a possibility that you were the "guy" that some of the other employees did not like. Who else could talk about hockey with them the way that you do? You and I would have been yapping about hockey all the time and it would have been beautiful. Thanks for your commentary.
The alarming part is that this was known issue before Bruce was even hired as a coach. Yes, the fans and the media didn’t know. But the organization definitely knew, since they warned Boudreau. And now they have a different coach, and the problem has gotten much worse. Only a fool would think this can be talked about and water will be under the bridge all of a sudden.
It usually isnt a big deal when its a plug not getting along with someone. When its two of your top forwards that are supposed to be leading the team and its affecting the players play, it becomes more of an issue and gets more attention.
Yes finally some common sense with a streamer thank you! Getting real tired of the media and fans blowing this up like they know what happens when the camera is off. The media and fans are gonna drive these guy's out of Vancouver... so dramatic
Reminds me of the Saku Koivu / Mike RIbeiro situation with the habs 20 years ago, similar players, although Koivu when not injured was much better for a small guy as 2 ways centre, but they're similar as in pass first playmakers who can score close to or about 30 goals (Koivu would've if it wasn't for all the time spent injured, he only started to be stable in his last couple seasons with mtl and when he had 3rd line role in Anaheim, where he was paired with Selanne on the PP). They both had their "crew" within the team who hated each other and rallied around either one of em and the neutral guys were disliked by both, hopefully if one gets traded, the Canucks don't get robbed like when Montreal traded Ribeiro to Dallas for Janne Niinimaa , a 3rd pair defenseman at best who was gone after 30 games back to Europe! Not a Canucks fan (it's even hard for people east of Edmonton/Calgary or even east of Winnipeg to get psyched about the Canucks, all that much even if we want a Canadian team to win the cup), but I wish there's no stupid expedited move like this made by the GM.
You make a lot of sense Shannon. I don't believe there ever was a feud . They were pushing & shoving during an intense practice a few months ago & said some things to each other but that was it ! Similar situations happen on every NHL team. There has been no other evidence what so ever of a feud between them. It's sad & frankly pathetic that the sports media & fans on social media continue to speculate & gossip about it. The focus should be on the team needing to play better because they've been inconsistent & there is a danger of missing the playoffs. And yes Miller & Petterson need to both play a lot better otherwise the team won't make the playoffs , but stop the speculation & gossip on the supposed feud. My advice to the sports media & fans : "If your into fantasy stories go & buy some comic books".
This is the one thing i am thankful for with my NJDevils. The team seems to all get along great and are more like a brotherhood or family. Personal problems translating to rifts between players definitely sucks and effects performance. Vancouver definitely has had their share of drama over the years. Hopefully they can work it out. Media also loves stoking the flames a lot as well
It almost seems like the media for certain sports in certain markets would rather see the team implode than succeed. I feel like I see that with the eagles being from around the Philly area.
I’ve long felt this way, basically since I started seeing it in juniors/high school sports and college, and situations like this kind of highlight it: across all sports, across all age groups, across genders, the media should b forbidden from entering a locker room before or after a game. Make players available for interviews, in the hallways or press conferences, but the locker room should be a team-only safe zone from the press
Next CBA the players could push for less media availability. They should also push for referee availability. The media is the worst part of hockey in many ways but necessary in so many others. When media members are respected by players it’s fantastic. But so many are not respected by players and do nothing but bring negativity from the social media world into the locker room.
I think it's deeper with media than just " do you two hate each other ? " They represent almost 20 million of the cap hit. We also know Petey had 15pts in 10 games with JT gone, now 0 in 6. So perhaps " it is " affecting their play being on the same team, now. The stats point to that. Also, if we are at our job and don't do it, we get called out. Why shouldn't they ? It's not that they owe the fans, they owe the PAYING fans at Rogers Arena, that are getting crap product and effort for their money. If you get a crap product from Amazon, you want a refund, and want to know why you got that crap product. The media is asking, is your relationship affecting the crap product you are selling the paying fans ? Petey makes $140,000 per 18 minutes of ice time , suck it up Bambi and remember who pays your inflated salary.
It’s coach and captain. Like THG said, every locker room has a couple guys that do t like each other. But coach and captain keep a lid on it and keep it professional.
There is a noticeable difference in play from Petterson, and to some extent Debrusk, when Miller not in the lineup. And other Vancouver coaches have mentioned it was an issue in the past.
Hasn't Miller been problematic with each team for which he's played? The common denominator suggests the issue isn't exactly comparable to every other team.
@douggarden yeah every player who plays on multiple teams is traded or left unsigned... that doesn't make sense. He's a competitive guy and hates that as soon as petey got his pay day his production and effectiveness tanked significantly. It'd be infuriating to be around that. Look at when he signed his big ticket and look at when he started playing average. Coincides
I cohost a podcast for my local soccer team and we are thankful to have access to players and coaches post game. There’s a certain level of tact that I think has been lost and it contributes to players not liking the media. Who can blame them?
For me, the biggest example of two people finding a way to coexist and work together despite their differences is Mythbusters. Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman have always stated that they don't like each other, and you can even see it in certain moments of the show, but their *respect* for each other and their work allowed them to come up with awesome builds and ideas to test for almost 15 years.
It feels like the issues are spot issues that media drags on and on making it a large dilemma We've heard through out this last summer that the Canucks Management wanted Petey to be harder to play against and that coaching staff were not the ones to do so. Miller being maybe the hardest competitor and one of if not the emotional leader of the team, was taking this on/ challenged with this as his to possibly try "Toughen" Elias up (Via hearsay from Freidman & Sekeres/Price & Donny/Dhali). We don't always get the responses we expect when those types of actions are taken, When someone who is suppose to be "on our side" starts to be over critical and hard with "Tough Love", oppose to the usual showering of compliments and constant giving of flowers. Instead we see those who no longer feel valued go back into a hole and overthink everything even if that was not the intention in the first place. Has this been looked through the lense of a mentorship/team mate coaching fail oppose to the "Drama alert they don't like each other"? Where one see the potential of one to be "tough to play against" without being overpower and overly physical, example Pavel Datsyuk. Pavel wasn't exactly the biggest player on the ice but was able to be a pain defensively while having offensive skill. This at one point was the vision that Elias could be like this one day. Those skills were not as quick to develop as the offensive side has to this point in his career and we may just see that work relationship never recover from JT trying to pull the best out of Elias, Just not in the way that was most effective for him. They are different ages, coming from different parts in the world so this would be understandable with no fault to either of either of them. With EP40 disappearing roughly around the time the contract kicked in this could of compounded around then just adding pressure from himself knowing how the media will somehow villainize him for taking such a large cap him and not being at the top in all areas of the ice, even though he was being paid as he should. Having it in the back of his mind that Miller and others want him to play a certain way resulted in more thinking on the ice vs just playing free and on instinct. You could see especially early on in this season, he would get chances and take that extra moment because he is overthinking and wanting to be perfect. The sooner the media stops talking about this, the sooner these things will get better... winning helps but so does not being reminded of it. They're both smart individuals, they are aware things are not going well and I am sure it doesn't help to be confronted with questions about it, if they knew the answers they would be going through those actions. Elias is only what, 26? Science tells us the Adult Brain stops growing around Mid-20's.. He still growing to no fault of his own, my Christmas wish this year is to get some down time from local beat reporters to stop this and look at some of the other issues that are plaguing this team as these two and their "lack of production" is by far not the only things not getting them wins. Maybe I got this all wrong though, thank you for reading.
we are all on the outside looking in, no one here knows their relationship, period. shit is sad and people need to give it up and drop it. its getting old.
You are right on ..... "what are they supposed to say?" Neither guy can say anything without the press making a way bigger deal out of it than they already have. Also post game interviews are pretty much a total waste of time, there is nothing very enlightening about stock answers to bland questions. Like after the goalie makes a 50 save shutout.... How do you think your goalie performed tonight? And that's about as good as it gets.
So true. Ya’ I think hockey players have the most boring interviews they are all conditioned to say the same boring answers. I get it they are basically answering the same questions over and over. After Hours is the only interview where the player let’s down his guard and is actually human.
Disliking someone isn't a problem, but if one of the two is beaking off and criticizing you to other people in your organization then it absolutely is a problem.
This is just my opinion but from the outside looking in this looks like a distraction and I think it will be a distraction until one of them is traded.
Why does the media always think that they can’t do any wrong and aren’t the source of most controversies. Probably because if they reported on it, it would be their highest clicked on article.
Yea I agree there mostly likely 2 players on any/every team that may not like each other, however when these 2 players who are the top 2 or 3 on the team are having issues then IMO this is completely different. A good example is Toronto last year in the playoffs when Marner had a melt down on the bench with Nylander calling out Marner (perhaps Matthews as well), look at what happened Toronto bounced by Boston. If Desharnais and Hoglander are having a tiff you think one isnt traded or sent down?
I've worked at some places where we all got along and a lot more places where there was at least one person you didn't like, and in both cases you showed up and did your job like an adult. Having both your top centres struggling to play like they're not average 3rd liners means the two snipers (Brock and DeBrusk) have to get set up in shooting position by Hughes or someone else. Winning definitely makes everything easier.
Yeah those places probably were VERY different than an nhl team that spends more time with each other than they do their families. Can't compare an average civilian job to an nhl team, there's almost nothing comparable to what jobs you've worked and the dynamic of an elite professional sports team, no offense. Apples and oranges
@@Tompynn There are a lot of people who work in camps and in worksites away from their families for stretches, but it's the multi-millionaires who can't get along that deserve all our sympathy. In the military you get absolutely zero say about who you work with and get frequently separated from your family.
I think the only solution is to get Petey and JT together at the table and have them agree on how they are going to troll the press in interviews in January. Petey should tell JT what terrible things he should say about Petey, and JT should tell Petey what terrible things Petey should say about JT to the media. This would accomplish two things: they get to vent about the other guy without causing any friction, and teaming up to troll the media would make them see the other guy as their partner instead of their rival, and that’s guaranteed to spill over onto the ice. I know that all this stuff would end as soon as one of them said, “I f**kin hate that guy. He’s always grumpy, he just growls at everyone, and he f**kin killed Dumbledore! I hate that guy!”
I'd trade both if the return is commensurate. Hard to attract top free agents if they think there is a problem in the locker room with 2 of the teams 3 best players until 2030.
Agreed. Another failure of so called mainstream media. Would rather hear bloggers questions. You guys need access. Let the players decide whichedia they want to talk to.
The post game interviews for mostly for the fans so I’d at least like them to try and get through it so the fans can enjoy interactions with the players interviews might not be the best but we all love to know what they’re feeling and thinking otherwise we can never really know
I think all of this locker room turmoil in Vancouver has had a really negative impact on the Sabres, who just want everyone to get along.
Unfortunately their captain doesn't

The exact right take on this. Media is milking it and sustaining their social presence on this. I can think of several. Sick of hearing the question on post-game interviews. Give it a rest. There's guys on every team who don't get along. The two are very different character.
The difference is other players don't let it affect their on ice play so much. If they don't want questions they should do their jobs
The article is basically him telling fans not to criticize media because “they are us” 😆
Again Petey/Miller deserve criticism but the likes of PJ acting like they are doing altruistic work on behalf of us regular fans is hilarious.
But speculation and media questions about it aren't going to be answered. Nobody but them know exactly what's going on. It's clear that the two of them are have opposing personalities. They work it out like professionals or one gets unloaded, if it gets that far.
Sounds like the hockey guy is a lot smarter then the people in charge of this team
A video on the worst team and player breakups would be neat
Miller seems to be the common factor, which sucks because I like the way he plays more than Pettersson
@@blackhawks9763 LOL he absolutely does not play better. His lazy play just cost the team 3 games in a row.
@@Eleutherios1millsy has had the team on his back Quinn Hughes style why does a slump define him especially in the midst of this and his absence
If Miller learnt how to back check I'd say he is better. But he refuses to play in his own end. At least Petterson can play good defensive hockey when he isn't scoring
Excellent video! Love your take on the Canucks
Congrats on 334k!
Quinn is still around, unless you’re suggesting Horvat was a better captain than Quinn.
@@danielnam9026Quinn is the better captain, I’ll tell you that for free
What would Horvat do for us? Over 8 mill for 50 points would be as equal to what we're getting from Petterson for all that money.
@@danielnam9026wait until Hughes has enough of Miller and his bs
Both great players. Sad to see.
Yup they need both of them. Trading either would be horrible
There's also the option of putting Petterson back on right wing, where he started his career and was quite effective.
Now I know why they named Hughes Captain
He's supposed to say, "Are we best friends? No. But that doesn't mean we don't respect each other and want to do the best we can for the team. We both share the same goal that the whole team does, we want this team to win."
Then when he gets asked if it's a distraction he's supposed to say, "No. No it's not a distraction. Honestly, the only time this rumour gets talked about within the team is when we are being interviewed. Which I understand why since it's such a strong hockey market and every potential rumour could be a story. But no, it's not a distraction for anyone on the team. I think we have some on ice issues as a team we need to figure out so we can play like we know we can play."
Now, this might be asking a lot from someone who has just lost a game but at the same time, it comes with the job.
Long. Hard. Clap. You nailed it!
Merry Christmas everybody!!
great take love the vids keep them coming
I agree that postgame interviews - press availability in general - is completely uninteresting. Players these days are savvy enough to know that if they don't choose their words carefully, what they say will get blown out of proportion and they'll look bad. Even if they do choose their words carefully, they know it will happen anyway. The only postgame pressers I've enjoyed in the past 15 years were Darryl Sutter trolling the reporters (Dustin Penner could do the same, when he got the chance).
The good ol' Canadian market is quite the double-edged sword
For hockey. Nothing like football, baseball and basketball drama in American cities. Sports = Big egos. Limited number of years to play.
Confirmed THG Exclusive:
"Pettersson accuses Miller of setting his car on fire following game."
4:25
It's ugly being that Hughes and Tocchet won't deny it anymore. Tocchet's "They don't need to play Playstation together" shall live in infamy.
You are right, hopefully alvin can make some moves to boost the blue line
JT Miller was no where to be seen on the OT goal too.
I didn't see it, but isn't lazy backcheck a constant issue with Miller?
@@deltagolavista1 he was already out of the play in the first seconds of OT. Completely burned
"It's weird, Bill".😂
Miller did come out, it's on gloves channel. Good interview there
The alarming part is that this was known issue before Bruce was even hired as a coach. Yes, the fans and the media didn’t know. But the organization definitely knew, since they warned Boudreau. And now they have a different coach, and the problem has gotten much worse. Only a fool would think this can be talked about and water will be under the bridge all of a sudden.
Wasn’t Milker an issue a few years ago. He put up a ton of points and everyone pretended to forget
It usually isnt a big deal when its a plug not getting along with someone.
When its two of your top forwards that are supposed to be leading the team and its affecting the players play, it becomes more of an issue and gets more attention.
Thanks for the video! Canucks are in pretty good shape.
Yes finally some common sense with a streamer thank you! Getting real tired of the media and fans blowing this up like they know what happens when the camera is off. The media and fans are gonna drive these guy's out of Vancouver... so dramatic
Please just don’t let one of these guys bail out the rangers
Thank you for doing this video. You get it!!!!!!
This is the one thing i am thankful for with my NJDevils. The team seems to all get along great and are more like a brotherhood or family. Personal problems translating to rifts between players definitely sucks and effects performance. Vancouver definitely has had their share of drama over the years. Hopefully they can work it out. Media also loves stoking the flames a lot as well
i always hated bill for his towel
100% agree man, this would be a non story if not for the reporters hunger to make it a story
It almost seems like the media for certain sports in certain markets would rather see the team implode than succeed. I feel like I see that with the eagles being from around the Philly area.
Great opinion! Thanks!
Thank you for this. It's been waaaay over-speculated. Whomever steps up, may win. Till then...folks have a lot of talk
I love your channel.
Maverick & Iceman didn't get along, they still managed to work together.
Next CBA the players could push for less media availability. They should also push for referee availability. The media is the worst part of hockey in many ways but necessary in so many others. When media members are respected by players it’s fantastic. But so many are not respected by players and do nothing but bring negativity from the social media world into the locker room.
Heard Daniel and Henrik Sedin hated each other and still performed on the same line.
JT Miller also has a no movement clause. It’s not possible to trade him unless he requests one.
Vancouver fans will regret deeply trading Pettersson instead of Miller.
It's better when it's an enjoyable teammate feud... Like Byfuglien and Kane... We enjoyed watching it for the most part... Lol.
There is a noticeable difference in play from Petterson, and to some extent Debrusk, when Miller not in the lineup. And other Vancouver coaches have mentioned it was an issue in the past.
Have you ever been to Montreal Shannon?
Hasn't Miller been problematic with each team for which he's played? The common denominator suggests the issue isn't exactly comparable to every other team.
EXACTLY....Miller has been traded from every team he's been on....he is utter cancer for the dressing room with his huge ego & childish temper
Coincides
@@Tompynnyet hes the one who cant even put in the effort to defend. 8M salary and you only play when you feel like it- gtfoh
Gossipy market in Vancouver? That's well put, but almost an understatement.
Hearing your tone of voice reminds me of your older videos on the canucks… not much has changed lol
Savage is definitely Miller and Hyneman is Petey
Adam has a YT channel, and answers questions from fans in some. He's discussed various aspects of that.
I cannot make a comment, as there are too many funny takes on this already, your followers are great.....
The Miller-Pettersson situation is crazy
It feels like the issues are spot issues that media drags on and on making it a large dilemma
We've heard through out this last summer that the Canucks Management wanted Petey to be harder to play against and that coaching staff were not the ones to do so.
Love the spirit jersey! Happy everything!
we are all on the outside looking in, no one here knows their relationship, period. shit is sad and people need to give it up and drop it. its getting old.
Thank you Shannon for standing in the middle except for those toxic "SO CALLED FANS" when their actually Petey and Miller Haters
My wife got the same disney sweatshirt that you were wearing in this video. Its a great one.
"Way too much conversation about it" as he proceeds to contribute to the conversation..
Great point of view
I always thought a lot of celebrity relationships ended because the press would ask questions that the celebrity couple would never ask of themselves.
So true. Ya’ I think hockey players have the most boring interviews they are all conditioned to say the same boring answers. I get it they are basically answering the same questions over and over. After Hours is the only interview where the player let’s down his guard and is actually human.
As long as they're not messing around with one another's wife/girlfriend, this situation is laughable and solvable.
Kirk McLean was Canucks best goalie ever, Jeff Brown on the other hand…
Disliking someone isn't a problem, but if one of the two is beaking off and criticizing you to other people in your organization then it absolutely is a problem.
This is just my opinion but from the outside looking in this looks like a distraction and I think it will be a distraction until one of them is traded.
Miller did the same thing in Tampa, then drove Horvat away and Elias is his latest target. Dude is toxic. Trade him while he still has value.
100 % agree that the media have nothing else to talk about ..So they run with this headline ..
Miller used to play with Pettersson, on the same line, I really don't think it matters.
It’s drama and gossip. A lot of people love that stuff now a days. That’s why people are talking about it, and that’s why it hasn’t died down
Why does the media always think that they can’t do any wrong and aren’t the source of most controversies.
Who has more trade value, Miller or Patterson?
I'd trade both if the return is commensurate. Hard to attract top free agents if they think there is a problem in the locker room with 2 of the teams 3 best players until 2030.
Agreed. Another failure of so called mainstream media. Would rather hear bloggers questions. You guys need access. Let the players decide whichedia they want to talk to.
What stupid thing to say
The post game interviews for mostly for the fans so I’d at least like them to try and get through it so the fans can enjoy interactions with the players interviews might not be the best but we all love to know what they’re feeling and thinking otherwise we can never really know
I still don't understand where this is all coming from. Just rumors?
