The 5-4 ot loss at home vs Seattle was significant on so many levels. Without Hughes and Petterson, up 3 with 5 mins left...... had they won, it would prove that they can win without 2 of their players, whilst hold on to leads. Sample size since has been small, but it doesnt look good, as the talk now is how much they need Hughes to play to win a game. Worst feeling seeing in OT... but he's been asked to do more than he should under the circumstances.
They need to improve that blueline. It's atrocious outside of Hughes with Hronek injured. All of their D are incapable of skating with the puck or make a break out pass to move up the ice. A lot of the times, they spent an extra 30-40 seconds defending just because of a bad pass. It's been killing them night in and night out. Injuries are one thing, and I think they actually sustained the injuries quite well when it comes to injuries to the forward group. They are able to find different goal scorers up and down the line up with Petterson, Miller and Boeser each missed time. It is the blueline that's been devastating to them. I don't know what Allvin's plan is but if he doesn't want this year to go waste, he needs to pick up another defenseman. Even when Hronek returns, they are still atleast 1 D short and ideally needs 2 more D. Your team won't be winning many games if you have to ice more than one of Juulsen, Desharnais, Brannstrom in the line up at once on a regular basis. And that's exactly what happened since Hronek went down with an injury.
I was at the game last night. Canucks played hard but too often they backed away from potential breakaways. They've been healthy for the majority of the season lol Just recently they've had injuries and they weren't even that long except for Hronek. Stop losing games in OT would be a great start...
Granted, I don't watch all the games like you do, but as a Caps fan I caught the recent 2-1 OT game. I felt like Logan Thompson dragged the Caps kicking and screaming to those two points and the Canucks put up a fantastic game. The season they've put up so far is respectable and while the struggles of late are cause for concern, I think the injury bug is the biggest factor dragging them down. I like this roster and if they can get (and stay) healthy, I think they should at least hold on to that wild card spot. Whether or not they can make a deep run this year is another question, however. Time will tell!
I would say if there is a rift it could have an effect. Let's imagine this a really tight group that all gets along (including the goalies). Well, they lose their lead in the 3rd, and one of the guys everyone respects tells everyone to calm down and gets them focused, they all remain motivated to get one back for the goalie they love, and they work hard to get the puck to each other and defend because they don't want the guy next to them to be left out to dry. Now imagine the alternative scenario where there are rifts on the team. None of that happens. You can point to coaching, but I'd argue that players on a team do far more in the motivation and morale category of things than the coaches. The coaches set the strategy and can impact confidence, but there's only so much a coach can do if the players are fighting for and pushing each other to succeed.
I have also been on the no d core wagon, i never felt they were going to be too competitive with the core and as always the most money in the off-season went to forwards. Van is obsessed with forwards, bless by goalies and prayer for the d.
I think it would be interesting to analyze the bottom 6 for each team and comparing depth of teams. I think we have decent forward depth and am wondering the accuracy of that statement.
look at the numbers in regards to how many goals against have been scored when Myers is on the ice , and tell me that hes not responsible for some of the losses. BRUTAL turn overs and bad passes and a lot of them resulting in a critically timed goal. Last year I loved the guy , and I think hes a great player but something is up with him right now and its costing them.
Yeah was saying the same thing last night. Lots of career years and tons of confidence last year. No injuries either. If they were in this spot last year I would have been happy. Unfortunately I think this year is a little more realistic in terms of production and rough on the injury front. Which is about where you would think we would be with the depth we have
I appreciate you mentioning the time out thing. Tocchet never uses them and it drives me crazy. I'm starting to think he is not actually a great coach and things just happened to click last year.
Hockey Guy: I like Garland & Myers but the Canucks’ aren’t built for the play-offs. Garland is shifty and finesse but misses little plays like a few weeks back a puck went right by him behind the net that looked like he had time to stop and make a play. He just needs adjustment and shooting practice
At what point do you get, that we're on our 3rd coach, and we're not noticing the kind of improvement we expect? I get it this is a train wreck year. But I'm starting to feel it's the core that's the problem. Hughes is fantastic. I wan to see consistency and improvement by everyone else too.
I love me some THG but as a Vancouverite, this is why I don't normally watch his Canucks vids. Way too influenced by Vancouver's cancerous media. Most other markets look at the Canucks and say "wow, theyve yet to be fully healthy but have managed to stay in a playoff spot all year? Not bad!" But in Vancouver it's "blow up the team! Trade the stars! Fire the Jack Adam's award winning coach!!". Not saying THG has any of those opinions, just saying it's hard to shut the media out completely in this city which is IMO one of the main reasons we've never won a cup....
I got called an idiot for saying you should not trade futures for deadline rentals. Everything but a Cup win is a moral victory, and I'm sick and tired of moral victories.
Vancouver is one majestic trade away from greatness. I think they really need future considerations. Future considerations would solve so many problems on so many levels for this team right now. That and maybe another goaltender... At this point you can't make serious plans with Demkos injury still up in the air.
The real problem is nobody on our team gets hot at the same time, we only even have 1 or 2 goal scorers hot at a time, and with out crappy defence the tenders are left to dry
DeSmith has played 12 games with 50% quality starts. Lankinen has played 28 games with 60.7% quality starts which is his career best thus far. Those 40% starts have really affected his save% even though his goals against is also his career best at 2.6. Once Hronek returns, Hughes is 100% and the team wakes up, I think he'll also gets it going again.
they can absolutely turn it around to become a fringe playoff team. However, this roster needs a major shakeup if you want to compete for stanley cup. The defense will improve when Hroneks healthy and Willander arrives. The top 6 is not good enough and lacks speed to compete with the likes of EDM and COL.
You talk, we'll listen. Also, I know it's not about Vancouver but Lalonde didn't fit Detroits roster. Defensive coach on an offensive team. Excellent video as always, keep up the great work!
As a caps fan, even though weve been kinda slumping, they played good last night, are a good team, and deserved to win that game. But as soon as I saw Wilson walk over and chump their entire bench at the end of regulation and not a single canucks player did anything, I realized that this team has the same problem as the Rangers, they dont want to play for their front office, coach, or eachother and have zero attitude. Now their drama has spilled over into the media and the spotlight is making everything that much worse.
It was apparently when Lekki got a good hit off of Ghule? I think that’s the player and normally everyone would go fight an over a clean hit. Canucks: nothing. No chirps. No trying to start something. Either Tocchet or front office has made it very clear that trades are going to happen so no one wants to do something stupid for the possibility of being traded.
@@SMA2343 I would imagine they had it drilled into their heads not to take any dumb retaliation penalties after Hoggy took one last game to essentially lose it for us
I mean juulsen did go and give Wilson a push and the refs gave him a penalty for that in OT. Every fanbase thinks their team doesn’t stand up for each other enough right now because they literally can’t. A penalty gets called if you push and shove after the whistle. You have to play these days to what the ref is feeling that night or even that moment and since anything can be called a penalty it feels like teams have become less willing to stand up for players.
IN hockey, you show your grit by INITIATING physicality, not retaliating \ reacting. It has always been better to be the hitter than the hit, never more so than now when all retaliation gets punished.
No I don’t think they can turn it around. What you see is who they are. A middling team who doesn’t have enough top end scoring and also have a bad defence. I have given up on this team already.
All our defense besides Hughes and Hronek are 3rd pairings.A couple guys could for a short time be second pairing. Even I had over estimated the quality of our defense. We are a bit small, slow, and lack toughness to protect star players. Good players at the forward position. I think we can do enough to make the playoffs. I doubt making the second round. Before the season I thought there was a chance of actually getting close. If the defense pans out. The guys we have have been exposed. But now I feel we could miss the playoffs. The inability to get the puck out of our own end will be the death of us. Sad that Joulsen has become Chaos 2.0. My thought is that our stars will continue to take cheap shots and not play full seasons. Healthy we stand a chance. But every team in the league knows they can take liberties on our stars with barely any repercussions. Last year Zadorov made other teams respect us. Even Cole was tougher than anyone on this team.If we kept Z and Cole and picked up Dillon when we had the chance instead of resigning Meyers we might actually be close to the top. And we could have still gotten Brannstrom. Just really disappointing season so far. Thank goodness we are still close.
17 points in their last 17 games in NHL 500, which isn't good enough for a playoff spot... but made so much worse when you know they only won 5 of those 17 games.
Not good enough to make the playoffs but they already had enough wins before that to make the playoffs if they keep going 500 lol still pathetic these last 17 games
They are in a playoff spot and have not had a full roster, or have even played well. They keep getting those single points, although not optimal, still keeps them in the fight. If the bottom four Big D-men get their shit together as they seem to be doing these last few games they will be fine . They will also get back some players very soon and they will be a lot better. As far as a trade goes, it is going to Boeser at the trade dead line and that is about it for trades. That by the way will kill the season, and probably the team for the next few years. Hopefully they don't make that mistake but is seems imminent.
Half a season left, lots of time to right the ship especially with the team getting healthy. But all sides need to pull their weight: players need to play better (especially our stars), Tocchet needs to correct some coaching strategies (i.e. timeouts, lineup decisions), and if management truly believes in this core, they need to support the players / coach by adding adequate defensemen. The first half has been a perfect storm in all the wrong way,; I'm hopeful it can be stopped and turned around there.
You even said it yourself ... When Quinn Hughes isnt on the ice they've been outscored 5-0 ... in other words , when Myers IS on the ice ... I dont know if you caught the Washington game , but there was a moment where they were on shift together , Myers had a SOCCER goal worth of net in front of him , Hughes looks over at him with his stick in the air ready to shoot and Hughes opted to hold the puck and keep skating around with it. I have been catching the vibe that all of his line mates are worried when he has the puck. IDK man , everyone seems to be harping on Pettersen and whoever else but Myers isnt taking nearly as much heat as he should be.
I notice that with Hughes. Sometimes he kept skating around and chooses to shoot the puck himself instead of passing it to an open guy. Does that not only to Myers though. I don’t mind him shooting the puck, he has such a great release. The only thing though is it takes away the chances for others
Here’s the thing…watching them for over 35 years and coaches and players come and go. Never get any closer to the cup. Maybe someone needs to send in an exorcist.
I feel like its a Tocchet issue this year I dont know why he creates some of these line ups when there are better players available to be there. I dont feel like hes a chill coach either never lets them off the hook for anything which is fine, but not all the time. There is so much speculation but the way they have been playing except for a few players, they have no drive to play the full match. Something is eating away at their spirit and I dont know what that is.
Still feel like the issue was the poor trade of kuzmenko. You trade Kuzy because the coach doesnt know how to deploy him for a guy that was mid all year in lindholm. Than lose lindholm as well, now your out a top 6 asset and everyone complains petey has no one to play with. Why trade the only guy petey was able to play with in basically his whole career so far?
Good game against caps. We outplayed them but that's where it ends. Everything is on management and the coach. The management really screwed this team with signings of mikheyev , lindholm trade, Petterson contract, atrocious work on defence. Even signing of hainen and letting go of podkolzin doesn't male any sense to me. Instead of using money to bring in a good defenceman in a range of 4-5 million they go on and sign forbort, Vinny, hainen, Myers. Why not sign two good defenseman instead of those four is beyond me. Playing any of these defenders over Brannstrom is solemnly on coach. You have one defenseman besides hughes who can carry the play out of our zome but he stubbornly puts Myers and soucy in ot even though they keep costing us games. It doesn't really matter if we make playoffs or not , going nowhere anyway. Would probably be better if we started getting rid of boeser ( floats and is as slow as they come) and a few other once as well. Instead of doubling down on their mistake and going all in like last year, dont do any more trades that will cost us our future. Het rid of all these pylons on defence and bring some guys from Abby, volanin, mcward , and the rest. We're not one or two players away from any kind of contending but probably 4 or 5 and rick isn't doing us any favors with that dump and chase borimg hockey, over playing hughes till he drops dead. All in all usual canucks stuff that's been going on for 50 years.
Seems to me that the 3rd period and OT are Vancouver's weakness. If their games ended after the 2nd period they'd be one of the top teams in the league.
I feel like as you said our team is in a mental drought awful mindsets going into games. I would love to see a Soucy And Deharnais trade these upcoming weeks for at least a solid D man
honestly at this point keep things the same till the offseason, don't make any huge trades, try to get a top 4 defenseman but the market is sparce and way too pricey that I don't see it as that worth it since we're definitely not winning a cup this year. If we can make the playoffs in a wildcard spot cool but if we don't then whatever. Next year hopefully 2 out of the 3 of D Petey, lekkermaki, and willander will be playing for this roster full time, and we can at least have an easier time picking up new defenseman and hopefully another top 6 forward. And maybe make a big trade with miller but i'd rather keep both him and petey.
Well, canucks are playing with a ahl quality d core. Except hughes. You guys have multiple top 4 defensive players. Schneider, fox , lindgren , miller . Canucks have 1 , and other is injured.
Rangers & Canucks aren't even close. Overtime should be 50/50 with some consistency, Canucks could get on a roll. I can't say that for the lowly Rangers

They could really use a defenseman like Gustav Forsling. If only they had his rights at some point.
look at the numbers in regards to how many goals against have been scored when Myers is on the ice , and tell me that hes not responsible for some of the losses.
Which is about where you would think we would be with the depth we have
Great job breaking this down!
The big problem is the drop off in play & production in EP40 & Miller.
Depth and goaltending (aid for injured Demko ) has been provided.
They can if they get past the next few weeks with an okay record
Canucks look like a very smart AI. They always play to the opponent's level and find a way to get the game to the OT.
This jersey is reminding me Jim Sandlak and Cam Neely vibes 🙌
Cozens, Quinn, Byram and unprotected 1st for Pettersson and Myers. Helps both teams
If they can stay close for another few weeks they will be getting Hrnek and Petey back.
The team needs a shake up.
I got called an idiot for saying you should not trade futures for deadline rentals. Everything but a Cup win is a moral victory, and I'm sick and tired of moral victories.
Demko to me is akin to ben bishop. vezina level when on their game but gets injured so frequently and therefore is always a question mark.
Vancouver is one majestic trade away from greatness. I think they really need future considerations. Future considerations would solve so many problems on so many levels for this team right now. That and maybe another goaltender... At this point you can't make serious plans with Demkos injury still up in the air.
What happened to Future Considerations from the Kraken?
Why do the doctors in BC remove people's frontal cortex? Is it a mistake, or did you request it?😊
Zadorov was very important last year. Big miss. He was a rallying force and scored as well as being a thorn in the side of the opposition.
I wonder how he is playing in Boston. If you read some of their fans comments they can’t wait to get rid of him, so as Lindholm.
The real problem is nobody on our team gets hot at the same time, we only even have 1 or 2 goal scorers hot at a time, and with out crappy defence the tenders are left to dry
If you count an OT appearance as half a win and half a loss, on this board they are 8.5W to 9.5L. Not the worst 18 game stretch
I would love to say yes, but my memory has me thinking; You could give them a roundabout and they still wouldn't turn it around.
I too like Hoglander. But to me he is helter, skelter, clank, clank.
Like you Shannon, I have a severe case of Vancouver fan deja vu...
The Vancouver islanders
Yes, I love Pettersson too!!
But from games #1-82 ONLY!
What`s the biggest goal of any club?
TO WIN THE CUP!!
Yes they can easily turn it around. Just a few players back from injury it's a different team altogether
Great video
😅Hi Rob thank u. Where did u get that great flying skate jersey ubwore during this video love that orange yellow colour. Thanks again
they can absolutely turn it around to become a fringe playoff team. However, this roster needs a major shakeup if you want to compete for stanley cup. The defense will improve when Hroneks healthy and Willander arrives. The top 6 is not good enough and lacks speed to compete with the likes of EDM and COL.
Garland has become my favorite Canuck in a very long time.
I say potentially "hardest working player in the league"
@@SMA2343 I would imagine they had it drilled into their heads not to take any dumb retaliation penalties after Hoggy took one last game to essentially lose it for us
THIS is what people mean when they say players are soft. The 'nucks let other teams get away with BS that they shouldn't!
"But at least they get a point... we'll come back to that" they have so many games that go to over time, if they only won more of them lol
Everyone knows Quinn Hughes is the Quarterback of the team.
#atleastwegotapoint 💀
Crazy 8 of those are ot/shootout loses . How different would it be if they won all of them.
QUICK, bring in Mark Messier as GM!
Insert obligatory "fUcK mEsSiEr" here.
Until trades occur, this will continue. Being healthy won’t put the rumours to rest, and they aren’t rumours at this point.
Lets get healthy and see where we are at in 20 games.....time to start winning....or tanking! 😂
@@bakikountwa2192 Agreed , I only pointed this particular time out because it was so painfully obvious.
Something is eating away at their spirit and I dont know what that is.
more defense in front of own goal, with coverage on top of puck?
Still feel like the issue was the poor trade of kuzmenko. You trade Kuzy because the coach doesnt know how to deploy him for a guy that was mid all year in lindholm. Than lose lindholm as well, now your out a top 6 asset and everyone complains petey has no one to play with. Why trade the only guy petey was able to play with in basically his whole career so far?
THEY ARE CURSED
Is Petterson really on the trade block? I'm seeing other team channels (Buffalo & Philly) discussing why their team needs to trade for him!
We need another top 4 D, not just depth on the blueline. Myers should be a 3rd pairing defenceman, Desharnais should be 7th D man at best.
Now you know, why Edmonton didn't resign him
Who would’ve thought the cannots sorry Canucks franchise high PDO from last year would drop.
Seems to me that the 3rd period and OT are Vancouver's weakness. If their games ended after the 2nd period they'd be one of the top teams in the league.
The Canucks have been on the wrong end of the stick for nearly their entire existence. This team is cursed by the league.
Tocchet doesn't have an extension so he could easily ve shown the door
I feel like as you said our team is in a mental drought awful mindsets going into games. I would love to see a Soucy And Deharnais trade these upcoming weeks for at least a solid D man
Rangers have no cap space also, but they still can make the deal
Boys gotta get healthy
honestly at this point keep things the same till the offseason, don't make any huge trades, try to get a top 4 defenseman but the market is sparce and way too pricey that I don't see it as that worth it since we're definitely not winning a cup this year.
Considering how bad nucks have been playing, their record isn't too bad. It just doesn't feel like they are going to turn it around. Hope I'm wrong.
Sweet jersey
Shannon confirmed to hate the Canucks
Simple: skate jerseys full time.
The Canucks and Rangers have really embarrassed themselves this year.
Well, canucks are playing with a ahl quality d core. Except hughes. You guys have multiple top 4 defensive players. Schneider, fox , lindgren , miller . Canucks have 1 , and other is injured.
And agreed, Tocchet has nothing to share, its like nobody's home.
That’s a 2027 Winter Classic idea at this point if there’s going to be 2 games lol
@@gorgeousgeorge5173Why bother the media is blood thirsty
Rangers & Canucks aren't even close. Overtime should be 50/50 with some consistency, Canucks could get on a roll. I can't say that for the lowly Rangers
Canucks biggest enemy this season is the IR.
