Mr Maximus, Thank you for the inspirational start to the week. As it happens, I have several examples of this sander. The ones labeled Rockwell were made in Guelph, Ontario and the one branded as Porter Cable was built in Jackson, Tennessee. One day I hope you have a classic Porter Cable or Rockwell circular saw on your channel. 😁

Mr. Maximus, thank you for the video, it was very helpful. I had some trial and error replacing all of the bearings in my 505, but it is sorted out and operational again. I installed all SKF bearings.
    Location P/N
Top of motor - SKF 608 2RSH C3 I know that it is a 608-ZZ bearing that came out, I couldn't find a 608-ZZ from SKF. I do have some 608-ZZ coming that are NSK.
Bottom of motor SKF 6201-2RS C3
    Plate - SKF 6202-2RS C3
All from Ebay. Amazon has these bearings available also.

The P-C 505 was indeed a great 1/2-sheet finishing sander! These seemed to die down when random orbit sanders gained popularity in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
I am wondering if you will ever come across another all-metal finishing sander: the Black & Decker 788 or 4015? These were made in Canada for most of its run.

I believe my 6202 bearing is shot for the plate…. How do I remove the plate!!!

The plate bearing (6202) was shot on my Rockwell 505. Remove the sandpaper from the sander. Remove the (4) phillips screws that hold the pad to the plate. You will see a hex-head screw in the middle of the plate and just to the right (or left) of this screw, there is a hole where you stick a screwdriver in to block the sanding mechanism from moving. Use a 5/32" hex wrench to remove the hex screw and the washer. The plate should come off. You will need a set of internal snap-ring pliers to get the snap ring off the bearing. I used a 17mm socket and a rubber mallet to get the bearing out. Take some emery cloth and clean out the bearing surfaces on the plate. Before installing the new bearing, put it in the freezer overnight so it will contract.
