Absolutely TOP story, production, historical drama. So many great lines in the script! So, so saddening that such political idealism and vision (by Labour) is long gone ... except for Keating's little flourish. And yet, the identical monetary skullduggery and loan sharking goes on today by all governments, such as the Khemlani issue was then.
Thanks for uploading this. Good acting and excellent dramatization of a complex scandal. As an American, I didn't know much about this incident beyond the broad strokes but this series makes me want to learn more.
Christopher basically SIr John was an agent of Queen Elizabeth and his main concern was the stability and the perpetuity of the governing process. He was left with a major decision regarding Australia's ability to function as a Federal government so like our recent crises in the United States he moved to issue an order to save the trust of the people they will have a government.
If you're interested there's also 'The Palace Letters' by Jenny Hocking. It's Hocking's account of uncovering the letters written between Kerr and the Palace during that time period and the obstructions to access the letters.
@@agenttheater5 Ahh yes, 'the letters' which when reviewed by Hocking actually showed that despite decades of utterly slanderous, defamatory and entirely baseless claims by ALP and Republic supporters, there in fact had been no Vice-Regal collusion with nor interference whatsoever from the late Monarch, whereupon in the absence of the scandal she was so very certain of revealing, Hocking and the ABC instead pathetically diverted to attempting to manufacture an issue out of claims of 'obstruction' in access to what are in fact considered to be private communiques according to protocol. One of the episodes of this fine series was directed by the one and only George Ogilvie. I was privileged enough to have George as a tutor and director in Sydney, and it smacks of his humility that he is so little known these days. I very much doubt we will see the likes of Ogilvie or Miller again.
Rex Connor had vision for Australia, his only crime was he attempted to obtain monies from people that were compromising at best. Those politicians intended to make a difference, instead of our self righteous conservatives who were only good at deflecting blame or criticism. Trying to make themselves appear so moral but in reality they are deceptive for the overall downfall of Australia’s greatness.
His socialist vision was nationalized industries. He denigrated private enterprise, people who actually know what they’re doing because they can’t just print money to keep themselves in business

To put this in context, while this constitutional crisis was unraveling in Australia, there was also a constitutional crisis in Argentina and Chile. In the case of Australia, an election was called, and the voters ratified in part the decision of the GG. In Argentina and Chile, it led to Military Juntas, death squads, and disappearances-just to show the resilience and utter well-functioning institutions of Australia.

i thought "True Believers" was very good too.
I would put it #3 from the great age of Aussie mini-series, after "Anzacs" and "Bodyline". Still excellent though.
