Same sex marriage debate - IQ2 Australia - 29 May 2012 Decades of activism have been required in order to reduce incidents of discrimination against gay and lesbian men and women. But there is a final frontier to be crossed-the extension of the legal right for same sex couples to marry. While the majority of the Australian public support this development, there is trenchant opposition from some...

100 years of Australia's House of Representatives. Drawing on historical events and contemporary opinions, the four episode documentary A House for the Nation provides a thought-provoking look at some of the key issues that have confronted the House of Representatives during its first century (1901-2001)-issues that still challenge us today. Episode One: The Great Divide considers the rise of p...

Adelaide Oval - The Untold Story (2015) Documentary
Can we get the real story. Why did it take 40 years give or take to renovate Adelaide oval?
Well done you did a great job with the review and you do know about their next movie together Paul Hogan the writer and Toni Collette it called Mental even a better movie I'll drop in
To put this in context, while this constitutional crisis was unraveling in Australia, there was also a constitutional crisis in Argentina and Chile. In the case of Australia, an election was called, and the voters ratified in part the decision of the GG. In Argentina and Chile, it led to Military Juntas, death squads, and disappearances-just to show the resilience and utter well-functioning institutions of Australia.
You can't please everyone. It is not a stock standard stadium. It's a beautiful oval bringing together the old and the new.
1:12:04 That crucial moment
This is the Australian House of Cards. Only it actually happened.
This was the Australian House of Cards. Only it is not fiction.
Rex raising loans on behalf of the Australian people without authority, what a sack of shit .
And this makes him out to be some sort of hero
Jim Cairns, another idiot who sees racism everywhere and projects onto others.
I love the way this is skewed to make Fraser out as the villain, (and Whitlam the victim) I was around then, I remember it well, the country was in going down gurgler, forget the spin, Whitlam was incapable of managing the economy. The 'fail safe' system that was in put in place actually saved us. Sorry, just the facts. The massive landslide win to Fraser and the liberals that followed shortly after the dismissal verifies this.
Socialism invariably produces inflation and economic disaster. Why does every generation have to rediscover this precept?
Such a shame the tories got back in and sold off the family jewels.
It will reach new extremes if Norwood get into the AFL shortly.
Sir John Kerr was a man of integrity and deserved better than the vilification he received from this film's depiction.
I thought this series played sir John Kerr quite sympathetically. Almost from his point of view, a man crushed between the two giant egos of whitlam and Fraser.
Great days.
But did Kerr "change, forever, the face of Australian democracy"? This has receded into history. Young people have no idea about the people, the actions, the ideas that were current at the time. Perhaps the key point is that Whitlam's dismissal was never legally or constitutionally challenged. The Queen was interested, but determined not to intervene. The rage subsided and evaporated like floodwater.
When they did the revamp of Adelaide oval I am glad that they left the old scoreboard alone with the original parts are over a hundred years old and if anyone wants to put this into question google it just to o get the real history of it
I know I'll get crucified for this comment, but I believe that the northern grandstand should be upgraded. People might say that the scoreboard and the hill add to the heritage of the ground, but to me having the stadium open like it is makes it look incomplete. For the sake of an old scoreboard and some trees how much more seating could be added if it was upgraded? In the end the scoreboard (if it isn't already) will be obsolete eventually and parts etc for it will be no longer available to repair it. Look at 90% of the grounds in the country, how many have a grandstand around the entire playing surface? Maybe it's time people let go of the past and bring it into the modern age
@@alexk7467I do agree with you and it’s time they get rid of it and add the extra stand just to fit more people and so on
@@alexk7467 why not compromise and incorporate the hill and scoreboard into a new stand like they do in places overseas? then its preserved whilst making it more enclosed.
@@the_real_bin_chicken That is something that could be done. Building a grandstand around the scoreboard would be possible with the correct design. I'm not sure how the hill could be incorporated into a new grandstand, unless the hill remains as it is and in some way the northern grandstand gets built around it.
I had a friend, used to rave about being at Anfield, Liverpool, England watching the supporters on the Kop sing "You'll never walk alone" I've also seen it on TV and it's impressive. He told me that unless I went to Liverpool, I would never understand or experience anything like it, and I always believed him. But we were both wrong. I have stood in the Riverbank stand at Adelaide Oval, in a crowd of 50,000 Port Adelaide fans, of which I'm one and sung "Never tear us apart". I have experience that atmosphere now and now I understand what he was talking about. For me it was the most insanely emotional experiences and I have no way of expressing adequately the way I felt. If you've not done it, do it. I'm pretty sure it would not have been possible without the new Adelaide Oval or a trip to Liverpool. What a great job everyone did in making that all happen. Adelaide Oval is exceptional and easily the best stadium I've been too...
Ports Never tear us apart doesn’t come close to anfields YOULL NEVER WALK ALONE I’m sorry I’ve experienced both
@@Il-bebbux Yeap. When I wrote this comment I knew someone would make the, this one is better than that one comment. The only way it's measurable, is personally and individually, as there is no other way to quantify emotion. How can you possible state that one is better than the other, it's all about an individuals experience. I can accept the "for you" the Liverpool experience was better, but beyond that, it's inconsequential...
@@CliveWebbAustralia I reckon anfield is a hell of a lot louder than adelaide oval I'm not saying ports never tear us apart is bad I'm a geelong supporter and have been to many power v cats games at AO anfield is just louder Nothing compares There are other clubs that sing YNWA And other clubs with powerful anthems But Anfield is known and revered world wide for its atmosphere
@@Il-bebbux Unless you have stood in both venues, on multiple occasions with a decibel meter you’d have no way of knowing which is louder, not that it matters. I accept that your recollection is that Anfield is louder. However, this is only your recollection, is unquantifiable and cannot be relied upon. From your first comment, you have been trying to devalue the never tear us apart experience, firstly by saying that the atmosphere “doesn’t come close”. Now you are referring to the level volume of the singing. This is mealy an attempt to justify your comments and I do not accept it, as it has no basis in fact…
Port Adelaide home games are the best atmosphere in Australia by far. Rivals anything you'll find in Europe, and this is coming from a Brit who came over and watch Port play. Never Tear Us Apart is incredible!
If they were elected in December 72 then 3 years is December 75. So close then why didn’t he call an election Labour never seems to finish a term
Because he went to an Election in May 1974 after the Libs blocked his budget - on that timeframe, the next Election was not due before May 1977.
20:50. Paul Keating getting sworn in, all the losers in one room, missing were hawk, Rudd , Gillard and Albanese

Puts the super profits during the mining boom into a clear perspective.

I wonder if the people of Malaysia ever figured out that their Prime Minister was actually Pop from Home and Away in blackface
Two characters played by white men in blackface yet for some reason the lefties don't want this cancelled. Go figure lol
25:07 - Is that Ben Mendleson?
That beutiful auld stiff uper lipped accent, where did it go? that civilised tongue, sounds like tom hiddleston...
Well may we say God Save the Queen, because nothing will save the Governor General
So said the disgraced ex-Prime Minister who was himself totally rejected by the national electorate in the greatest ever landslide defeat in an Australian Federal Election several weeks later. Yikes lol.
@@harryricochet8134 He was the biggest reforming PM this country has ever had, Sir John Kerr is the one that will go down in history for all the wrong reasons.
Interviews in the streets about government directions to take...kindof like asking a plumber what actions a surgeon should take..has no sense..
What an excellent portray of politicians spending all their waking hours ethier trying to take power or hold on to it. We the sheep are mentioned every once in a while as the need be. Still better than Putin l guess but certainly far from the infamous word..Democracy.
Power does things to people. And then the CIA does the rest.
12:44 sounds just like today, Inflation, Resources, Build Better, etc. It’s like the 1970’s and 2020’s are a time mirror.
This all happened because of Port Adelaide 😂 They just get away with it. First the whole entering the AFL. Then destroying Footy Park. Where will it end 😂
Great series thank you im surprised john mellion could play a straight roll without a beer in his hand ?? Lol
16:28 After almost 40 years, I still wonder who Bill Hunter referred to that needed it to be bleeped out. Also again at 18:58 with a deftly placed telephone ring to hide what he said. Can anyone read lips out there?
Last catch was fantastic
So prophetic when one considers how we blew the mining boom.
The only gain from obscene super profits? Maybe income tax.
oh damn George Miller made this
Imagine the labour party got the money 💰💰💰💰 and taped into our national resources , we'd be filthy rich and petrol would be as cheap as water 💦 🥲
Absolute shame they tried it twice and got hammered for it. But apparently Labor are the sell outs
Quite an education on Aussie nation building. Fair dinkum.
We know now that Jim Cairns WAS having an affair with his "Special Adviser". So he lied about that for decades in addition to lying to Parliament about the entire Loans matter.
Brilliant casting of the actors
The actor for the Fraser role is absolutely compelling.
John Stanton was quite adept at playing Machiavellian Establishment characters.
@@symontemplar1418 Fraser was a great politician
@Sean-me4fv Can't hate the fact that he was a great politician. He is the real Australian "Francis Underwood".
That looks like Frank Lowy playing Sir John Kerr.
It's John Meillon wearing a wig to hide the fact he is 20 years younger than the man he is playing
There was never anything personal between Whitlam and Fraser. If anything they were fond of one another in private.
5:29 My name is Shirley
11:12 It's "Snedden"
The speaker would would have been better off playing Patrick Field.
The narrator sounds like that guy from Play School (Waters).
It's the great Peter Carroll doing the narration
