I’ve been messaging him about it. My V has 100% opened up. I posted about it in a Discord channel about 2-3 days after receiving it on Thursday. I’m very very much liking where it’s at right now.
@@MattsPickleball yeah, my V and S arrive tomorrow, looking forward to testing them. Haven't been a standard/wide paddle player for years but have heard so many good things about it. That shape sold out pretty quickly.
Used the Pulse V for a few hours. Really liked it coming from a Mod-15. Has similar "plush" feel that you generally get these days with the foam paddles, but definitely more muted in both power/spin. It feels like it took all the good qualities of a Mod-15 and tuned down it make it easier to control. Sometimes with the Mod-15, balls fly off the face too hot and you get pop ups unless you have excellent control. The Pulse V gives more room for error. Very good paddle.
That's a really good assessment! My "V" has "opened up," a little bit. It sounds different now than the other paddles, and it's a little hotter - again - **a little** hotter. I also want to be crystal clear, the core is intact as is the structural integrity of the entire paddle.
Thanks for the review. I just ordered mine and hope it is better than my current Pro Energy S. I do like my current one but shots off the edges - away from the sweet spot, if you will - are 'dead'. I hear this one address that. The best thing about Pickleball Apes is their 30-day return policy: It does give you the opportunity to return the item; though on my third purchase (now), I haven't done so yet. More power to you, Matt!
@@JaxxCrash Each paddle is special in its own way. The S and V have a bigger sweet spot and a softer feel, but they’re not as powerful. The ESQ has a smaller sweet spot, a stiffer feel, and feels lighter. I can tell the difference between the one-piece thermo-formed paddles and the cold-pressed ones. That’s not a bad thing, it just makes each paddle unique.
With the perimeter foam on these, especially the Apes, how does it affect the sweet spot? I like this type of review since I was looking to get the Joola, now I will pass on it..
So, you have to realize that any answer I give you is anecdotal. It's completely subjective. 🙃 Is the sweet spot bigger on the Pulse V vs. the Scorpeus 3S? I honestly can't say. One doesn't feel bigger to me than the other.
The control on this paddle is excellent, largely because it doesn't require any additional weight. Despite the 6.35 swing weight, the "S" model feels surprisingly stable-more so than the swing weight suggests. The "V" model is even more stable, with minimal twisting during play and a high level of control, though not power. These are definitely not power paddles. Third-shot drops and drives are easy to shape, and resets are forgiving, meaning you're less likely to pop the ball up compared to paddles like the Gen 3, 3S, or Ripple. To be clear, pop-ups can still happen, but it’s not as frequent. The paddle feels great in hand, and if anything, it might be, mmmmmmmight be a touch head-heavy, but I’ll confirm that once I check the balance point numbers.
It’s not. I’m not expecting it to open up anymore. Structurally it’s very well constructed. I just think some of the glue and epoxy has loosened up a bit.
so nice to see / hear the paddles in action head to head. no one else does this and its really, really helpful. great review.
Your comment means a lot! 🙏🏻
Great and short review! I totally knew what you meant with the two people standing on a trampoline analogy lol
Good! Ha! I was worried about that one!
If you watch John Kew's video today he talks about the break-in on the Pulse. He's been playing with the V for two weeks and it's heated up.

Thanks! Hopefully, you got to use my code, MPB. :) It helps my channel. But if you didn't, it's all good! :)
I'm playing the S and V at league tonight...so here we go!
How did it go? And can you compare the V to the esq 12.7?

@@JaxxCrash oh, it went very well especially as the V opened up. A bit more plush, more dwell time, and slight bump in power.

Thanks for you thoughts on the pulse V. I'm thinking about picking one up when they're released. Do you happen to know the swing weight on the V?
Yes! 113.7 (www.mattspickleball.com/pickleball-paddle-database)
Do you have a Gen 2 scorpeus to compare it with also?
Yes, I do...and that's an interesting question. I have't hit that in a while, but I will sometime this week!
The Pulse V feels nice b/c it's got an insane twist weight at 7.5
I’m really really liking it!!!
You have one hell of a forehand
Heh, thanks. :)
How were the 3rds and resets??? Control?

@@MattsPickleballlet us know swingweight too please !
@@mariokaldas4795 I posted it all here if you don't mind visiting: www.mattspickleball.com/pickleball-paddle-database
If it’s truly gen 3, expect it to heat up with break-in

The purple ain't it
Oooooooh, I'm digging it. It looks good in person.
