Its a no go because it doesn't have bios flashback. If your bios flash gets corrupted there's no way to flash it again, you have to RMA the whole board. Bios flashback is almost standard across other vendors' motherboards by now.
Same. These days whenever a motherboard interests me the first thing I check if it has bios flashback or not
Another thing that should come standard especially with expensive mobos is a metal CPU socket like the thermalright ones to remove any form of socket/IHS bending.

As long as you're not being a fool, it really shouldn't happen. It has cmos reset and you can always reflash. I just updated it to the latest BIOS and left it. It was a breeze

The technical and essential difference between AMD X and B motherboards, is that the X boards have (2) onboard chipsets while the B boards have (1) onboard chipset (and the "E" simply means that the board has Gen5 PCIe lanes available instead of just Gen4). The second chip doesn't really affect performance per se - it just changes the configuration of the PCIe lanes and allows for additional lanes coming off the chips. But keep this in mind: THE ADDITIONAL LANES DO NO MATTER unless you actually plan to use all of them. For example if you buy a Gigabyte X670E Aeorus Master with 40 useable PCIe lanes instead of a B650E Aeorus Master with 32 useable PCIe lanes, but you don't use the 8 extra lanes for anything, then you are basically paying $100 extra for no particular reason. Always look at the motherboard block diagrams in the board manual, available on the manufacturer website.
In fact that is probably the number one most common way that people waste money on motherboards: paying for features they don't use. The only "Construction Quality" features I always check are the PCB layer count for running RAM (8+ is excellent, 6 or less is average), and the Power Stages (12-14 is good, 16+ is great,
I feel like your comment just overcomplicates things, but I will come back to it later once I have had the chance to digest it. In general, you get better features with more expensive boards and I've always based purchasing decisions on what I can afford. Counting lanes and phases sounds good, but I'm not convinced anyone pays attention to that.
@@SilverJoystix He's simply saying that if you don't use the features, you're just wasting money. And the more features the board has the more money you're wasting generally. Seems to me like half the people that buy these $400+ motherboards do so just to show off. The more money you spend the more companies will push prices higher until they hit a ceiling.
The hard part is always the price increase. I feel that most people don't get the $500+ board, especially when the CPU often doesn't cost nearly that much. My next upgrade will be thinking "am I willing to pay $100 more" and that's the hard question.

Thanks for the review. FYI, you missed that the back panel also has thermal pads sandwiched between it and the m/board (visible through the cpu cutout) which acts as an additional heatsink. ;-)
Found your channel last week and we love it. Decided to play a drinking game off your chipset explainer video and although we still haven't finished it a whole day later, the only things we can't find are our keys and phones, but like who loses clothes in a drinking game cause we absolutely didn't brrrrr. Thanks to you we've dialed in on the 32-Core Threadripper and are looking at merely upgrading to the 13900K from the i7 same gen cause someone splurged on a motherboard last year. That's worth losing a little dignity over-I mean keys right lol. Seriously though we suspected a few things but your channel really helped to eliminate one build and scale another down.

I noticed they put a pci-e x1 slot at the bottom of the mobo with the end of the slot cut out for cards with longer connectors to still use the 1x lanes but they put 2 capacitors there so you cant use anything that would stick out of the slot anyway...
I looked at higher end motherboards. I kept coming back to this one. I saved $200.00 by not going with the Z790 AORUS MASTER. I picked up this motherboard from Microcenter for $379.00 what a steal. I'm using a 14700k and G Skill 32GB 7200 in a Corsair 5000X RGB. The only issue I have know is which GPU I should get. Thanks for the overview of this motherboard. 01/06/2024 0741

For Intel, "Z" references Enthusiast focus. "H" is home user focus. "B" is business grade focus. "Q" tends to be qualification platforms as is chipsets that were sent to manufacturers as qualifying sample chipsets but are free to distribute on a motherboard after platform release. "X" is for extreme users
Q is actually their premium business line, usually has more connectivity and vPro support as well as embedded options and Stable Platform support which is just a fancy way of saying they guarantee a certain level of stability in the product offering regarding changes to design over time, so that you can buy hardware that hasn't introduced new issues over an 18month cycle for a business that supports many devices.
Why can't you use full PCIe Gen 5 x16 and M.2 Gen 5 x4 at the same time since all Intel LGA1700 CPUs have 20 PCIe lanes and support that combination?
Intel's z790 based boards do not have 20 pcie 5.0 lanes, they are limited to x16 pcie 5.0. Which is why if they want to provide a pcie 5.0 x4 m.2 they have to steal from the x16 slot. AMD's b650e and x670e support 24 x pcie 5.0, so no limitation.
From a technical point of view I would cut four or five of the m.2 slots, add some pci-e slots and put some pcie-to-m2 adapter cards into the box. Much more flexible.
In your opinion will AMD make new motherboard for 8000/9000 series CPU's even if current X670-E model's will support them ?

Nova is by far the best offering on Z790 for enthusiast without deep pockets, really hope AsRock continues to release Nova line in Arrow lake.

im not understanding sth here isn't all 2 to 6 m.2 slots connected to chpset and all of theri data should transfer with 4 lanes of pcie between chipset and cpu .

I have an ASRock Z690 C/D5 ATX that has 4 NVME SSD slots. Plus a B/M key for WiFi/Bluetooth. The 4th NVME is pcie 3.0 though
The higest tier of the motherboards are also those that gets specific limited edition water blocks made, like "mono blocks" and such. Truthfully I didn't listen fully the whole time, so you might have mentioned it.
In the past, I often chased after new products. Now, no more. Age is catching up. Getting work done really matters.
I actually bought a 50$ asrock board for a r3 1300, upgraded to r5 3600 and might upgrade to r7 5800x3d in the future. Its crazy how good the am4 platform is.

It's not the first time they call “gaming” a mobo suitable also for a little 2-channel workstation: I remember that you had already addressed the issue with the MSI X570S Ace Max, which I then bought and it gave me a thousand joys (I have main nvme and chipset water cooled too). Certainly this new Z790 is very very beautiful. Quality motherboards are always wonderful, I love them, and are necessary in PCs built to last, and in general in all high-end builds.
The best VRMs are very useful with the most demanding overclocks and large RAMs; the numerous nvme slots are useful over time, and numerous additional attacks leave room for maneuver and the possibility of precisely distributing the not many lines that a two-channel socket makes available. 🙂
I'd love to see a comparison on graphics card running in x8 mode to x16 mode with DaVinci.. LIke mentioned in the video Intel boards having the issue where if you occupy the Gen5x4 NVME slot your graphics card goes to x8 mode. AMD doesn't have this issue with lanes but does it really matter? I'd love to see.
This is why for me I still think 12th Gen is better then 13th Gen. It's not that big of a difference in performance, but in addition to the 16 pcie 5 lanes it also has 4 pcie 4 lanes for a ssd. It baffles me why Intel cut that for the 13th Gen.
Edit: AMD only supports pcie 4 on the chipset side, which is also bs and lets everything else run even slower. So if you just take all the other 5 slots and put ssds in there your speeds are still better than using any AMD configuration.
If it sccales like gamming you're looking at 2 %to 6% difference, saving 1min in a 30min render wold be considered a marginal loss.
@@DarthJane A top AMD motherboard provides for TWO dedicated Gen 5 M.2 slots off the CPU, for maximum speed, all without stealing any lanes from the PCIe slot. When it comes to expandability AMD destroys Intel.
An AMD X670E motherboard also has far more expansion capabilities than any Z790 motherboard, especially with more USB ports, and with higher speeds.
The fact that Intel only comes with a total of 16 PCIe 5 lanes makes no sense at all, and is quite frankly insulting.
@trudgyhd - With the current generation of graphic cards, a 4090 will lose a little bit of speed at the high end when only provided with 8 lanes. Every other card won't be affected at all.
However, this is no excuse for Intel to not provide any dedicated Gen 5 M.2 lanes. Future graphic cards may utilize more than 8 lanes of bandwidth, and Intel owners will be screwed. AMD provides the only safe option.
@@zebrapluto530 All these additional USB ports will be bottlenecked as hell as any AMD mobo only has 4 lanes pcie 4 communication between chipset and cpu.
@@DarthJane The Intel boards link to the chipset with 4 lanes of DMI 4.0, versus AMD's 4 lanes of PCIe 4.0, and BOTH operate at roughly 8 GB/s, the same speed. But AMD also has 4 dedicated USB 10 Gbs ports directly off the CPU which don't share bandwidth with each other nor the chipset. Intel still loses, badly!

There is one more chipset in case of Intel - W680. And it's kinda important one for creators since it supports ECC memory.
ECC memory is for servers or workstations that are expected to be stable and error free for quite some time.
A creator can create without ECC RDIMM .
@@Xoman08ECC is important not only for stability, but also for data integrity. RAM errors happen all the time, but in most cases it's just one frame with one bad pixel or something like this. Nothing really important for normal user. But if you create something then you don't want some random error caused by faulty RAM.
What is bios flashback? what is the loss of not having one , can't we update bios if we don't have one? how will the bios get corrupted?
From my understanding if you have bought intel 14 900k and your motherboard needs to be updated to support the 14k you will need an intel 13k if the board support it to upgrade the bios to the 14k.
The say if your updating the bios and electricity cuts off you will need to send it your motherboard for repair but if you had flashbacks you wouldn’t .

I bought a used Asus P8Z77-V Deluxe + i7 3770K to play around with over Christmas - High End Ivy Bridge from 2012 with all the comforts. Had a lot of fun with it. Unfortunately, high-end motherboards are unaffordable today.
(Note: I just looked at the price of the Nova - €360 is definitely fine for the functions)
I always get $1000 mb. I have $1000 gpu and $700 CPU. For this setup, I went with $1000 mb. It was the smartest choice.

Before parting your money, finding what people say online is best. I once came across Asrock having terrible VRAM problems on certain motherboards.
I got stung this month. Got what I thought was a good motherboard, MSI B550 Tomahawk, but after using it for a while, and making some upgrades to the system, I ran out of PCIe lanes and can 't use one of the PCIe slots, as well as using the 2nd m.2 drive. So now I have to upgrade to an x570 motherboard (not wanting to change out the CPU and RAM at the moment), just so that I can use a PCIe add on card in my system.
Won't be making that mistake when I change platforms again, even though the initial layout will most likely be much more.
You didn't say what you were trying to add that needed more lanes/slots?
The reason Tesla chose AMD is because of their APU offerings, which is a CPU and actually decent GPU on a package. Intel doesn't have an equivalent offering, mostly due to lack of GPU power.
The chip they're using is effectively the same thing as whats in a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series S/X, both supplied by AMD. They may update to the one supplied to the Steam Deck or Asus Ally portable gaming devices, also supplied by AMD.
You can see a pattern here.
For the basic things i see in Tesla cars the Intel CPU+GPU chips can do the same. It is when you get into gaming AMD's CPU+GPU chips pull ahead. Most real world cases i see are not gaming just playing movies, display GPS instructions, basic show my kids internet videos, and of course some use it for an extra passenger screen for whatever they are doing on their laptop which the laptop is the main GPU not the car.
So the GPU in how it is being used in reality doesn't have to be that good. The car isn't a computer. Now if he wanted to make it one he could but with the specs of the embedded systems it would be a low end system as high end systems will drain the battery to fast even when idling.
Process mode and TDP is a major difference between both cpu manufacturers
Obviously anything battery powered will prefer the more efficient chip not only cause of RNDA but it’s two or more generations of process nodes ahead of intel; their meteor lake can barely sip power without it being a locked processor; Tesla cars are still dependent on battery and you don’t want your instruments to drain more power than regenerative brakes can get power back
Sadly for devices like smart phones that are on ARM and much small process nodes they are trying to squeeze much more out of a processor but there’s diminishing returns on how big a battery can be since a solid 3-4 day battery is nice but unrealistic on what performance sacrifices it could lead to underperforming phones that feel like there’s been no improvement
Nvidia is stuck in the issue of their gpus are good per watt but it’s been disregarded since they want to charge so much money up front then factor in cost of ownership over time
@@dvxAznxvb yes they're more efficient, but with a battery as big as a car the difference is basically irrelevant. Even running the thing flat out for 10hrs will drain only a few minutes of drive time.
The biggest difference is that AMD has an SoC that can run a high performance gaming console, and nobody except maybe Apple can match it in the current market.
It's also x86, same as the Atom SoC used in older cars.

Sorry for being off topic, but I just watched your video about contact frames. I’m thinking of installing it for 14700k against the bend, but I’ve read messages that for some people the ram may not work or the system may reboot. Should I be worried about this?
Just make sure you get the cheap Thermalright contact frame. DO NOT get the more expensive Thermal Grizzly version. The Thermalright one screws in easier and doesn't cause the issues the Thermal Grizzly version does. Just make sure to get everything snug without severely over tightening and you shouldn't have any issues. This was my experience.

I'm happy with my MSI MPG B650 EDGE WIFI AM5 AMD B650 Motherboard, which I paired with the Ryzen 9 7900 12C/24T CPU, KINGSTON Fury Beast 64GB (4 x 16GB) DDR5 4800/6000 RAM, a Solidigm (Intel) P44 Pro 2TB M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD (ER=1200TBW) primary/boot drive, & an ASUS TUF 7800-XT GPU. My no overclocking necessary 1440p gaming & productivity build.
This past week I discovered an unexpected utility of motherboards with more than a couple PCIe x16 m.2 slots having the same gen version. I gifted an m.2 to a relative whose MB has three x16 slots, all gen 4, two of which were already in use. The new m.2 is faster than the installed m.2s. Simply adding it to the remaining slot wouldn’t gimp its superior speed by much…a convenient situation. Yes, moving it into slot 1 would take best advantage of the new m.2 speed. It is the convenience of having the option that I’d not previously considered.
Next MB I buy will likely have 4 or more m.2 slots of the latest version and all x16 (or x32? If I live that long). Or I won’t be able to afford such a desirable configuration!
Z170, Z270, Z370-HD (there are 70 for Intel too)
It's all about the lanes and less about the OC. Each line has its "use case" the Z line adds little to no benefit for even those who want to OC a "K" Intel CPU .. good luck trying. The XMP OC is available across all 7 series. Instead, the primary real world difference is the Chipset PCIe Lanes: Z790 28, B760 14, and H770 24. Also more limited support PCIe 5.0 support on the non 790 motherboards.
What do you like more; itx, matx, atx, eatx? I prefere laptops. 😅

I have the Nova, i think it would beat the Pro Art of features and value for money.
But that one extra M.2 slot is literally the ONLY added feature you get for a few hundred dollars more than the MSI MAG tomahawk max wifi and the NOVA reduces supported RAM speeds
My problem with this board is that they're missing some QoL/DIY features that has been the standard with high-end & flagship boards in other brands. Asus has easy GPU release, Msi has screwless m.2 latch, while Gigabyte has both.
Then again, for this price, I shouldnt asked too much.

Correction its the CPU and the motherboard that matters reaching higher speeds, honestly I would even lean more toward the motherboard being more important. There is only one board that is made to truly take advantage of high speeds (8000mts and more) and that's the Asus Apex Encore

You're talking memory speeds, and both are important to get the highest speeds. If the memory controller on chip can't do it in the first place you're boned, but also the motherboard needs to be built in a way that the interference for the traces to the memory slots isn't a problem at those higher speeds, which means they try to make the traces shorter and perhaps add extra PCB layers to separate them.

I like asrock, I mostly have asrock taichi mbs. The type of content creation I do requires as many pcie slots as I can get. The new taichi boards don’t have enough for me anymore because it seems like the industry is moving away from pcie slots in favor of m.2 slots. I don’t need m.2 slots beyond 2. I need boards with 3 pcie 16x and 2 pcie 1x or I have to start buying blackmagic capture cards. Which are substantially more expensive.
As Rock please bring back your HDD Savor. I loved that option on the x99 Fatality Pro Gen 3. I'm rocking it for year's now. Always loved your motherboards but so sad you dropped the HDD Savor.,

I am currently on z690 and I7 13th gen. as much as this sounds and looks appealing... there's just no sense in updating to an almost dead platform especially with that amount
I run 6xnvme on my z690. heh. 4 on the board and 2 on add in cards.
It looks a great motherboard buy unfortunately its very hard to achieve the top reported ram speeds.

What I got from this video is that it is not worth it? If you're just gaming that is, you can just slap whatever in there, get a few fans and a decent cpu cooler, and you can rock everything in 4k or whatever depending on your equipment.
For that use case, a basic board will do. The main advantage of this guy is the connectivity options, which due to lack of PCIe slots are hard/impossible to replicate using add in cards.
If you need a bunch of m.2, high speed network, fast wifi, lots of fast USB, etc. all at the same time, a board like this is pretty much the only way to get it on the consumer CPU platforms.
You can always step up to the Xeon W-2400/3400 lines in Intel or AMD Threadripper if you want more than what a board like this can give like multiple video cards, multiple PCIe5 drives, higher RAM capacity and bandwidth, high speed networking up to like 200Gbps.
Aside from the lack of Bios flashback, not having TB4 or even 10Gb Ethernet is just a waste for this price point.
But older z chipset had 70 instead of 90...so was z170, z270, z370 and z390
The state of IT right now is kind of sad. I built two PC's recently, one for my Grandson and one for my new PC. Both PC's had the first Motherboard come DOA. One ASUS and one Gigabyte.

lol, have just been going through "selecting" motherboard and watched numerous videos and read reviews. For a 7800x3d and the Strix 650e-e looked good ( wanted a postcode ) but bad memories with Asus so yesterday ordered a Carbon 670e. Why ? Mental overload from all the numbers ,,,,,
I actually bought that MB a few weeks ago. I run a 14th gen i7 on it with a Arc 770. When you talk about creator you have to have in mind what type of creator....for a real professional this combination might be weak....for me as a hobby creator for home videos using cyberlink power director this thing with hyper encode feels like a beast. So far everything works like swiss clockwork. The only thing which sucks with Asrock is the RGB control software. It is supposed to integrate parts like RAM. It also looks like it does but the kingston fury does wild things in reality and is not really in sync. My Asus MB in the office are far better . But this is a small thing . I run 2x32 GB at 5600 MT (follow your recommendation...better slower but stable) and never had a glitch with that. So all in all I LOVE this new box and the power it brings to the table.....i bought this MB mainly because of your videos about it. Good information you give , my friend. Keep up the good work👍👍👍
I use powerdirector. I have ryzen 3950x and gtx Titan x. It didn't make the playback any smoother until the recent update But it could export the files pretty well. Also I had no problem playing back any effects.
Could you give some more insight on how your system is working for you? I may consider trying that platform.
As far as playback, having a long timeline, using lots of effects, exporting etc..
Using mine with Adobe Suite and Devinci Resolve. It has been extremely solid and stable. I'm running 2x32Gb at 6800MT, no issues. I truly belive this is a fantastic board for professional creators too. You have to remember TN has a bit of a hard-on for Pro Art stuff which gets in the way of his options and can be biased.

I managed to grab this as it was released and got it for $300. Absolutely fantastic deal and it feels double that price in terms of build quality and features. I'm very happy with it and it's such a solid motherboard and hasn't missed a beat. I highly recommend it. Using it with a 14700K

I wish I watched this video BEFORE I went out and purchased new components. Never trust the salesman to tell you what to buy. And watch out for items on "sale' or "opened Box'. You could be buying a second-hand part and not something someone returned after a couple of days maybe.

And Wifi 7 is at the current date not even ratified by the IEEE, so don't expect anything they say in ads just yet. Oh and expect speeds to drop even quicker with distance than with Wifi 6(E).
the only thing is that zen5 is going to make it no contest first of all and the zen5 x3d chips are going to add another 10% performance gap on top for good measure - people say - there is always something new and better but this time it is likely to be true and more impacts than normal - why people should just dismiss thought about using last gen parts - just wait and build, if zen5 is not all that you will get big discounts on alternatives so either way you win

3700x is older. get newer 7600x unless you getting second hand. and there is no *GTX* 2060 super but only *RTX* 2060 super
up until few months back I was working on a 5820k + 1080ti build with 32GB ram and it worked quite well. The only thing i got upgraded is the GPU with a 3090 i got a rly good deal on. So you can get by with really old hardware withouth much trouble.

If you are not Overclocking the high end motherboards are a massive value lose. Get a cheaper MB and if you need more m.2 get a PCI card for them same for just about anything else.
It has no thunderbolt? But a 1000 dollar laptop has 3k 120hz oled and TWO thunderbolt ports??? Crazy. How can someone be building a top system and not want a fast port.

Most of the computers I've looked at over the years (hobby - friend's and acquaintances computers) were clearly bottlenecked by their motherboard. My old computer - which was pretty great over 10 years ago, and is still sufficient for any gaming task (minus a couple games where the CPU isn't quite beefy enough)
I've not seen many systems where I couldn't identify (or at least, didn't suspect) the wall they were hitting was the motherboard itself - sometimes tossing expensive, top of the line parts into a sub-par board can end up being a bit of a waste.. Now, those "gaming wifi" features .... I do not believe are worth spending extra for unless you really love wifi - I personally can't stand most wireless devices - lower speed, higher latency - and for a lifelong PC gamer it can be very noticeable latency if we're talking about wireless peripherals.
Wireless internet ... provided the hardware broadcasting it and the ISP are alright, is probably fast enough, but I still find it to be unreliable - and then there's the fact that it isn't really great to be constantly exposed to all those waves - certainly not from right next to the devices. People who thought that was all conspiracy theory talk would be sadly mistaken. Little known fact, but it is a verifiable fact - 5G wireless technology was developed as a weapon in Iraq, by Israel. It's a "non-lethal directed energy weapon" - it's for crowd control. Those arrays they point at groups of people that makes them disperse? it literally gives them the feeling of being burned - and it can actually burn you too. There's a lady out there who got fried by one and it was like one of the worst sunburns I've ever seen - would not be surprised if she ended up with skin cancer as a result.
In the end, we use similar directed energy waves to cook our food if we are using a microwave - it should go without saying that those waves are not always going to be harmless - indeed ,when the technology was developed, the INTENT is to harm. I'm all for non-lethal weapons, even though I also do not intend to get in front of them - but it IS a problem when we're sitting next to one and someone is telling you it's "perfectly safe" - and there certainly are studies that show the opposite - and there have been studies that showed that since ... I think 3G. Pre-millimeter-wave technologies were still known to have a variety of ill effects, like tumor growth. I hate this new trend with motherboards with way too many M.2 slots and most of them will be unused 99% of the time which just compromises other aspects of the board. Reducing the lanes that could be used for useful PCIe slots.
5 M.2 slots routed to cpu through just 4 PCIe lanes via chipset, not a deal breaker but definitely less impressive....

15:47 I'm sorry, yes not many people need 2 GPUs, BUT 3 PCIe slots is quite limiting. When you have capture cards, a faster Ethernet card (10 gbit) and maybe even a professional audio card like one would potentially have in a creator build..... then that's not enough. This is a BAD creator board.

14:40 This is stupid, current gen cards are PCIe 4.0, if you use that M.2 slot, half of the bandwidth is gone. And some performance with it, even worse when you have a PCIe 3.0 GPU.
Once the GPUs get to PCIe 5.0 this isn't so much of a problem anymore.
And no, not all M.2 slots are "full speed", four of them are connected to the chipset and the chipset does not have enough bandwidth to the CPU to support all of them at full speed and load. You essentially have to share a DMI 4.0 x8 (essentially PCIe 4.0 x8) link. This means that the max speed you can get in summary from those M.2 slots is PCIe 4.0 x8. Not counting other devices hanging on the chipset that need bandwidth too.

I have 3x Kingston 2TB KC3000 drives on the chipset (M2_4, 5, 6), 1x 2TB Kingston KC3000 drive on the CPU (M2_2). All 4 SATA ports are also populated.
They all run at full speeds.
