    Hey brother, just wanted to let you know that I really appreciate what you do. I literally bought this mower brand new from a reputable home improvement warehouse & the throttle linkage was not adjusted appropriately. I watched your video & found my issue to be EXACTLY what you described in your video. Thanks to your video, I fixed the problem in no time & didn’t have to deal with returns or service or any other bs. Thanks again your help is much appreciated.

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  2 місяці тому +1

      I agree on not using a pressure washer or even a garden hose. Do not wash your machine unless necessary. The reason why the normal homeowner should not wash the machine is most do not know or have the means to properly dry the machine. I use high compressed air and know where to blow off the water so it will not sit and seep into the bearings. Also the mower decks are usually off and you can stand them straight up to drain or if the mower deck is on you need to run the deck for at least a few minutes then sit the machine on a incline to make sure all water has drained. It’s a tedious process to get all water off of the important parts and most people don’t do it. I’m am a business performing repair work and it’s my name on the job going out the door. I want my customers machines to run good but also look good as the machine should not look like crap when returning after paying to have your machine worked on.

In-between checking out the issue, I changed this very same cable to move the gas tank out of the way. I jumped directly to the starter, crank but no start. So, I was not sure where to place the cable. Now I do. MANY, MANY thanks.

      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  Місяць тому +1

      I'm glad you like the video and thank you for supporting my channel. I do not recommend washing your machine due to the bearings on the machines now are cheaply made and if you do not get all the water away from where they are, you may have premature failure. If you do clean your machine with a pressure washer just remember to run the machine around after you clean it and run the mower deck for at least 5 minutes so you can sling all water out. I use high compressed air to blow off entire machine then run machine and mower deck. I also will grease all grease fittings before I pressure wash to keep water out.

    • @MarkDeLongchamp
      @MarkDeLongchamp Місяць тому

      @@JohnsonsSmallEngines I like the compressed air idea and will start my cleanup with that. I usually use a bucket of sudsy water and a rag. And then a mist rinse with the hose or wipe dry with paper towels. Which bearings are you referring to? The ones in the deck?

    Thank you for such a great video! Helped me understand what was going on with my throttle issues. The air filter hadn't been changed and was in bad shape. Lots of dirt. There was definitely some dirt down in the throttle flap, something that prevented the flap from getting all the way in the closed position. I could push the flap to the closed position with my finger, but no matter what tension was on the wire, the flap wouldn't get all the way to the closed position. So now I have a very manual choke, lol. Any ideas on how to restore that?

    Can you recommend one that will work and last longer?

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  Рік тому +2

      Try and find a good used one or put a seat cover on it. To get a aftermarket seat you will need to do some research and measurements to make sure it will fit and make sure the seat switch will work. I do not get into finding seats due to way too much trouble getting it all to come together and be safe(seat safety switch works).

    Great video! Our KT735 has the exact same linkage set up and now starts first time every time. Only issue is its always had too high an idle speed. The orange governor spring won't let it go any slower than 2500. Is there an adjustment to bring the idle down without changing the WOT speed? Tightening the idle screw up on top of the carburetor will increase the idle. Loosening the screw has no effect.

I do not recommend washing your machine unless necessary. If the machine has been sitting a long time and hasn’t been run? You may need to cheat and poor a little gas down the throat of the carburetor so the engine will run to prime the fuel pump and if you do that a few times it may run as it should.

      It may be stuck? I cannot tell you what you have without seeing the machine. The choke rod in the video shows how it works. It's straight forward. You may not have this exact set up. There are a few different choke set ups on the 7000 series engine. This is one of them. Some have an electric choke.

    I have in issue someone might be able to help with. My XT1 has a rough idle. It cycles to a good idle, then slows to an almost stall, then back up. The cycle lasts about 6 seconds.

    Sure enough that was the problem with mine... i just used my finger to push the flap closed and it started right up, figured I'd test it before taking anything loose. Thank you for the tip, got my ol' lady off my ass.

    Mine starts but wont stay running, acts like it runs out of fuel, kicks bucks and backfires then shuts off.
