The Vegas Golden Knights: Why?
Вставка

- The NHL is full of idiots and individuals that lack foresight. It's been proven over the past twenty-five years and it's been proven once again when they awarded a franchise to Las Vegas.
I don't see much good coming out of this decision, so I wrote these questions in the hopes that we can get some answers on why the NHL thinks this can be a successful venture. It probably won't be answered, but it's worth a shot.
NOTE: I'm undergoing a transition into a new job right now, so my work "rate" will be slowed down while I try to get myself prepared for it. Trust me, I'll try to get hopefully quality stuff out as quickly as I can. - Спорт
The "Jose Sharks" sounds like a street gang from a musical
West Side Story: Jose Sharks vs. Peg Jets.
Yep
oh my...it works perfectly
Why not the Jose Sharks Vs. Angeles Kings, though?
West Side Story was Sharks vs. Jets.
on January 21, 2018, Vegas Golden Knights became ranked #1 in the NHL by points. T-mobile arena tickets are the most in-demand tickets in Las Vegas. I think the urinatingTree just got urinated on....
The Laughing Lion let the hype die down and you'll see. Especially if they start to suck
Trust me, as a VGK fan...you WANT tree pissing on your team. If he starts to like them or pick them, they go to shit. FUCK YOU, SPANOS!
Pacific division champions !!
Gerardo Nunez well theyre in the playoffs
You're funny. The team was given a sweetheart deal in terms of acquiring talent. No expansion team in any sport was entitled to acquire so much talent from existing teams. Vegas was set up to succeed so casual hockey fans in the area would buy tickets, thus justifying putting a team there. Talk to me in 3 years when the novelty has worn off & the building is half empty. Ask the team owners 3 or 4 years from now how they feel about that half BILLION dollar franchise fee they paid. I love the NHL, but they should not be expanding. If anything, they should be contracting.
The sport they didn’t know they liked. The team they didn’t know they needed. Vegas hoists the cup
This video did not age well.
Eh that reamins to be seen tbh .. sure the knights are drawing right now ..they have a great team .. people are obviously gonna get involved in that situation . The real test will be when they aren't so good when the cap closes on them or they like every team has a down trend. I hope it works I really do and it's off to a good start but time will tell if this actually works or not.
Sonnet And then it went back to aged well...How do you blow such a lead against the legacy of failure in San Jose?
@@bradenlemon9452 With a rigged reffing staff, that's how. Sad the NHL STILL can't get a handle on their refs, and its the Finals for fucks sake! No postseason suspensions in the SCFs since 2011, and SUDDENLY Boston is whining like little bitches that STL is no longer soft under the likes of Hitch/Yeo....
Sucks to suck, Boston....we're gonna put your asses thru the meatgrinder wednesday night
@@frederickglass1583 Ya but the refs had nothing to do with their joking play. Seriously ive watched it a thousand times over and beleive me, im pissed at that call. But vegas just instantly looked so sloppy. Everyone's sholders were slumped, fleury looked like he was sitting and barely making an effort. The entirety of their defense was just holding doors open for the sharks to walk right in. I get that, that was one of the most botched calls in my 20 years of watching this sport but the ONLY way that game was rigged is if Vegas themselves were payed to lose.
@@bradenlemon9452 Considering Vegas is still widely projected for yet another Conference or Finals run, one series lose to the Sharks after a horrendous call won't mean much.
Why does the NHL keep putting teams where the only inch of snow they've ever seen would've been during the Ice Age?
right?
Well to be fair they don't need to limit themselves to places where it snows.. a better question is why do they keep putting teams in places where NO ONE WANTS AN NHL TEAM lol. At best in 10 years you get the Lightning and at worse you're gonna have another Coyotes on your hands.
I know but it just irked me when my cousin came to Minnesota for the first time and he said he loved hockey but when he got here he asked why it was so cold and it was 30 degrees. If you don't like cold or at least know what it really feels like then you don't like hockey that much
haha maybe he meant deck hockey lol
Yeah but people in Quebec will support the NHL no matter what so why would the NHL care about them? They only want people who;ll never give a damn about hockey to like hockey (see the NASCAR model) O.o
And here we are 6 years later. The Golden Knights are Stanley Cup Champions and the rest of the NHL is coping and seething
Won their division, swept the LA Kings in the first round. Sell out crowds at every game?
Still a bad idea?
And they managed to made the Cup finals in their first year and actually win a game in the Cup finals. Too bad they got reversed swept in the Cup finals
not a bad idea but those teams that are struggling need to go
They're only selling out because they're good. If they have a bad season the crowds will disappear.
@@SeanIgo I think we're about to witness the test
Nope
i have a question, why the fuck does wisconsin not have an nhl team but arizona does?
answer: gary betman
Another answer, the BMO Harris Center is too small for the NHL, unless the Bucks get a new arena with a hockey rink inside, then the NHL is no for Milwaukee.
why not use madison ?
it doesn't have to be milwaukee.
Because Wisconsin is a shady ass state.
Because retarded people are in charge. Simple yet sad
“Your best hope is that they become the Florida panthers of the mid 1990’s, and that’s probably a long shot”
Spoiler alert: they became the fastest expansion team to 20 wins in NHL history
They did better than the Panthers, lmao
They ended up being the next Sharks or the next Lightning.
Next step: don't perenially choke like the 2 aforementioned teams.
They got a chance a cup finals and conference final appearance
either way I HATE the knights
@@Pokemonmaster150b and now the Lightning won shit
Honestly if they HAD to make an expansion team, at least pick a better city. Seattle, Quebec city, Milwaukee, ANYWHERE that people actually give a shit
Hell, Hartford would've been better so that they could have the Whalers back. Hartford's considered a small market, but if they could have a team before, why not now?
Hunter Lehman I love that people talk about Vegas like they know how the city feels about hockey lol I have lived in Vegas my whole life and we have passionate hockey fans all over. Don't just assume that since Vegas is a desert that it is a shit market.
cough cough arizona
Not true at all, I live in Seattle and people want a hockey team nearly as much as an NBA team
I live in SoCal right now and I'm gonna be moving to Seattle by the end of the year... I don't know when the next time I'm gonna be able to go to a live game again...
You jinxed them into becoming one of the most successful NHL expansion teams in the Morden era lol.
Who’d have thought they’d win their first Stanley Cup within six years compared to others teams (Coyotes, Canucks, Sabres, Senators) who are all decades older and still have yet to win
@@RB01.10Well I mean let’s be thankful Vegas has done great things for the league
“At best, they become the Florida Panthers of the mid-1990s.”
Six years later: breaks Florida’s expansion wins and points records; makes the playoffs five times, conference final four times, and cup final twice. The second time, they win the cup over … the Panthers.
What a jinx, Tree. That’s a Dang-it.
holy shit i didnt think about this
I feel like they should've named them the "Las Vegas Aces" personally I think it rolls of the tongue better
Ever hear of a game called Blitz the League 2? Because that's an actual team in that game. Also in said game are the Washington Redhawks.
DANK_M3M35 .. Las Vegas Smokin Aces
Las Vegas Blackjacks
Bmaster1001 nah never heard of it, but do you think that's why they didn't?
I agree that this should've been the name for the team, but the NHL didn't want any gambling references for a Las Vegas team.
Stanley Cup champions within 10 years of their existence. Goddamn.
And you can officially eat your words.
"Why are you expanding to begin with" *Vegas Wins Cup*
Who's back here after Vegas won the Cup?
June 2023: This video aged worse than expired milk left in a broken fridge
Actually, a lot of people refer to "Las Vegas" as "Vegas"..... that's pretty common dude.
When you thought the video aged poorly then ages even worse 😂
Well this is awkward.
Why did they just curb stomp Florida for a Stanley Cup?
Yeah this video hasn’t aged well, Tree
This was the first UrinatingTree video I watched. As a Vegas native, I was salty at first. But over time, I've grown to cherish this video as ground zero of the Knights defying the odds
6 years later, this video has aged like milk with the Knights winning the Cup and Tree after all these years is still one of my favorite youtubers. Funny how life works.
I agree! Outsiders do not understand what this team means to us Vegas natives. As a kid I was always told we will never have a major league team in our city. Look at us now
And now, six years later, the Vegas Golden Knights are the Stanley Cup champions.
Right, Diamondbacks?
Still retire, Bettman
This should've been the rebirth of the Quebec Nordiques.
I might tend to agree with you, except that Vegas was not only an inspired choice, but it's roster is turning out to have been picked by a bunch of hockey geniuses... Even getting hit by not one tough goalie injury, not two, not three but four goalie injuries... (leading to one game where Vegas had to sub in a 19 year old FIFTH STRING Junior Hockey goalie), the Golden Knights have weathered that calamity and made it through the initiation to the NHL of their 4th stringer Maxim Legace who has begun to play pretty well after being pretty shaky early on. Vegas home games tickets are hard to come by and highly sought after. The fact that Vegas is now in first place at 12-6-1 makes the Vegas pick just an incredible success, even if they fall in the standings. I highly doubt that a reborn Quebec Nordiques could have done nearly as well in any phase of the game as Vegas has... The most prolific expansion team of all time to this point.
Oh boy, this has not been aged well at all
How about grant a real hockey city like Quebec a franchise?
So essentially "Bring back the Nordiques!" in a way (relatively) similar to the Seattle SuperSonics (hopefully) returning to the NBA sooner rather than later (preferably without a team moving to create a clusterfuck of history at hand, similar to the Winnipeg Jets).
they tried... Quebec city was the OTHER expansion option and the NHL went with Las Vegas mainly due to the Canadian dollar being 76% of the value of a US dollar. What's sad is that they could have just as easily put the Predators in the spot where the Thrashers use to be (as in playing in the former Southeast division, not moving to Atlanta) and no expansion would be needed. Well, if quebec doesn't get the 32nd NHL team, they'll certainly try to lure the Islanders who have to choose between hemoraging more money at the Nassau County Colliseum (seriously, you know it's bad when the Coyotes are drawing in more fans) or move to a new city like Quebec City or Hartford.
ChevyRoll48 should the Islanders move, and given that the Canadoan dollar is 76% of the value of the US dollar and the tax breaks the state of Connecticut offers, they'll probably move to Hartford and leave Québec out in the wind to twist.
I meant move them to the eastern conference not to Atlanta
yeah, I could see a second incarnation of the Hartford Whalers whether they have to get the rights from the Hurricanes or if it's free game.
This video has aged like the finest of milks left in the desert heat. CONGRATS ON THE CUP VEGAS!!
Holy shit a fellow Jags/Knights fan, I didn’t know there were multiple of us
This video aged like a fine wine...out in the sun...in Nairobi.
As of December 2017, I heard that the NHL have serious talks about Seattle getting a franchise expansion to balance out the League with an even 32 teams!
They should get a team.
Seattle will be joining the NHL in the 2021-22 season.
They are the Kraken
And they did well in this season's playoffs too...
southern ontario, quebec, hartford, seatlle etc.. so many better places to put a hockey team smh
Aiden Ontario won't happen, screw putting a team in Quebec, and like the other guy said about Seattle.
hamilton would have a franchise, but buffalo is so poor that they need to claim that hamilton is in their territory
and besides, the leafs are the third richest team in the nhl. they won't try to block hamilton joining lol
Las Vegas is probably the absolute worse location possible hahahaha what idiots!
Aiden CT resident here. Hartford is an absolute joke.
atleast give them ahl back then, lol. having an ohl team in hamilton seems sketchy to me imo.
This video aged like milk. The Las Vegas Golden Knights are now NHL champions.
Five years later they won the Stanley Cup
This video really didn't age well now
With the Knights in the Stanley Cup, this video REALLY didn't age well
Why? I’ll tell you why. The Vegas Golden Knights are Stanley Cup Champions!!! That’s why!
And now they're Stanley Cup champs! Only took them six years...
Who's here after they win the cup in 2023?
Who came back after vegas became godly
Evil DragonZz I came :D
I've been back several times to snipe at the truly foolish and shortsighted comments here!
Since this video was made, the Golden Knights:
1. Went to the fucking STANLEY CUP FINALS.
2. Choked in the first round to the goddamn SHARKS of all teams.
3. Have morphed into a heavy Cup favorite AGAIN. (Oh, and the team they choked to didn't even make the playoffs, so their kryptonite is gone).
@@Pokemonmaster150btook awhile but they finally got the cup
@@boone4531 A remarkable achievement for a SIX YEAR OLD TEAM.
Even tho I'm a Sharks fan, I am amazed at the Knights' success story
So whaddaya think about hockey in Vegas now?
Jakob Lancaster top 3 in the league. I love going back to these videos and making people eat their words
Do you mean the 2nd in the NHL in points 3 points behind the #1 Lightning, with a game in hand Vegas Golden Knights?
Rowan Walch oh absolutely. Granted I don’t think any of us thought they would be THIS good right away but I love how people like this guy just knew they were going to be terrible and it wasn’t going to work here in Vegas.

@@ThatAintTheThugShakerPaul Maurice really is such a gambler.
This aged terribly. I hope that crow you've been eating tastes good. We love the knights here in Las Vegas.
My theory is that Las Vegas is only using the NHL team to prove that the world won't fall apart if a professional sports team exists in a city where gambling is legal. Then they can move on to their REAL goal, getting an NFL team lol.
Considering the fact that the Oakland Raiders are going to be moving to Las Vegas in 2019 or 2020, I can believe that fact.
Well there has to be owner's vote and I believe they need 2/3 majority and as of right now I feel its about 50/50 on if they'll allow it. A lot of older owners don't want the NFL in Vegas. Even though gambling is really everywhere it will be weird if you could place a bet on the game, then literally walk to the game to the watch it lol. So that's why I believe that they're using the NHL and Foley's money to prove to the NFL that it'll be okay.
I actually thought it would make ten times more sense for the chargers to of gone to Las Vegas instead for them traveling to Los Angeles means that at least one team there is going to fail. I see zero chance for both to survive there
Yeah I don't mind the Raiders move, and I'd rather the Chargers just stayed in SD but I totally agree about setting 1 of them up for failing. Maybe it will result in some sort of arms race between them to build the best team so they don't become irrelevant.
They won't vote against the move, Davis will sue if they do. They already rejected his move to LA so the NFL lose in court no problem.
Chapter 1, Doubt
This video went from rotten to burnt to ashes.
Knights are officially Stanley Cup champions! 😅
Channel got 4K subs in the last month and you changed the name. Your content is funny and gives us sports fans something to laugh about but doesn't waste our time with a 10 minute video. You are doing GREAT!!! Keep up the great work!
One of my goals is to discuss these things as quickly and concisely as possible. I shoot for around five minutes. If it's around ten, it has to be VERY compelling material. Time is the most precious resource that we have, and the less time needed to discuss something, the better.
And thanks, man.
UrinatingTree agreed. The number one reason people leave videos is because of time you handle that perfectly. And again you're doing great
Once again, thanks, sir. I hope it stays this way.
What was the old name?
So that they could be the first team in the desert to hoist the Stanley Cup, that's why
The current date is May 5th 2018... the Vegas Golden Knights are in the Western Conference Championship facing the Winnipeg Jets.
This video is too good right now.
why not give a hockey team to a place that likes hockey maybe just maybe

....Weed makes you do strange things...
I expected a comment about bleach. I'm disappointed in you, Clorox. ;)
UrinatingTree And i was expecting Atlanta to keep a 25 point lead in the Superbowl. I guess we're both disappointed in something...
I also expected Cleveland to win the World Series... We all have them.
i expected the warriors to not blow a 3-1 lead
I expected Ohio State to score in their bowl game like every other team..
yeesh.... this is a new level for UT's jinxing abilities...

Man this guy was so wrong
How'd that work out?
Hi everyone! 👋
I don't think people understood the connection between the Knights and the city of Vegas.
and now the VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS WON THE 2023 STANLEY CUP!!!
what do you have to say now?
Sold out arena here, almost every game. Those of you who love Vegas are using it as an excuse to come here and follow your team to have fun here. The Jets game for example, Cabadians everywhere and everyone was having fun. Beloved, Knights..have turned many fans everywhere into fans for them. They are loved in Vegas (P.S locals as dude pointed out in video, call it Vegas..people from other places call it Las Vegas) name is for the fans at home. Many turn coats have left their team to follow VGK and their immense help in the community is way more than the raiders have done. These guys have a hell of a following, broken many records and are actually decent. We shall see if it sustains. He is right though, we haven't showed any loyalty to professional teams, we only followed the Rebels until Knights showed up.
Wonderful statement, count me as one of the turncoat fans... Lived in Vegas for 40 years now, always followed my Boston Bruins before this preseason, then Oct 1, that sold me on the Knights. I do have to say that minor league sports come to Vegas to die but I think if the Thunder had been in the AHL and been run better they might still be around... I went to probably a half dozen or more Thunder games
I was the rare Canadian who didn't care about hockey and now I watch every VGK game, own merch, and OBVIOUSLY want to travel to see a home game because... duh! I think it's great that they were all tossaways from other teams and came together to do so well, plus the PR they did after the shooting was top-notch. How can you not root for these guys?
I fell in love with the Vegas team
this aged so badly it's funny
I'm a Pens fan living in Vegas. The Knights were a huge gamble. Just like everything in Vegas, they lucked out by performing well in their first three seasons, but as soon as they slip, they'll get dumped by the "fans". They built a fan base and they have an arena atmosphere that is one of the best in the league (I've seen the Pens at 6 different arenas so far, and Vegas has been the most fun/loud/entertaining). I just worry that when their novelty and luster wear off, this town will dump them like a losing parlay ticket. I, for one, really love having hockey in the desert, but Vegas doesn't have a good track record with the Wranglers or the seven other minor league teams. And now we're building facilities in Henderson for the Silver Knights? This town is only loyal to winners. It's a short play, and even though I really hope it lasts, I can't help but be skeptical.
If the Knights miss the playoffs this season, your words might come to reality
Imma stick by. Been a Vegas fan since before they ever played a game
Do you not understand how many tickets/season tickets were sold before they even played a game?
@@SlXkxmx yeah. That's how flashes in the pan work, especially in this town. And in the three years since I posted this comment, they've been successful and the town has embraced them, for which I am thankful.
Also, the dillution of talent is an argument for the NBA to expand, but attendance isn't

How are they going to build up a fanbase too? If there's hockey fans in Las Vegas, won't they be supporting other teams already? And even if they do abandon their teams, all its going to do is just dilute profits
Most of the people that currently live there are like they were in Phoenix back in the 90's: They're transplants. Most of them either don't care for hockey or already have teams they root for. That's why they have to be good or else nobody will show up to games.
UrinatingTree Add that reason and the fact that Gila River is in butt-fuck nowhere for most fans. You are basically asking to fall apart.
even if Arizona team was in a metropolitan center it would still get awful attendance.
As someone who lived in vegas something that came up in conversation all the time was "wouldn't it be awesome if we had a team" while it was a bad idea to expand vegas wanted a team. baseball would gotten more support but vegas is made of people who moved from all over the country and yes a lot are from Phoenix but they moved to get away from the economic disaster that was pheonix at the time they moved in hope of not losing everything and don't have a team to root for. Also the company that has the rights to broadcast the knights games has coverage over all of colorado utah idaho and parts of montana those are the people that will watch
Boy it sure looks like you were wrong on this one buddy! Do research before you talk shit.
