I lived in the Netherlands my whole life and I don't think I have ever been to Amersfoort. You guys inspire me to travel in my home country more often.
The Amersfoortse kei is not a little cobble stone but a huge 7000 kilo bolder that was placed in the centre of Amersfoort which gave the Amersfoorters the nickname Kreientrekkers, which means bolder pullers. It took 400 people to pull the thing into the city on a dare somewhere in the 17th century.
Ahhhh, that was fun to see that you guys had a great time in my city....i am 49 years old and still live here for 49 years and don't have the urge to move from here. It really is a beautiful city..shame it was bad weather....with nice warm weather the city comes even more to life with people comming outside, eat and drink and have a lovely time. If you are here again let me take you to even more beautiful places just outside Amersfoort.......have a great weekend :)
Wow, Amersfoort is so beautiful! I visited it once quickly, but I now realise I didn't see that much of it. I think you will enjoy visiting Doesburg too. It's a cute 'Hanze' city and is very pictureresque.
I can highly recommend the Hanzesteden (hanseatic league). A collection of cities that used to be part of a trade route and trade agreements between cities all over Northern Europe. It started in Germany, and most of the cities were German, but there were many other cities and countries involved as well. The ones I know are lovely are Zutphen and Deventer, I live near Doesburg, which is also one. If I remember correctly, there is a tour between a few cities that starts with a steam engine, then a boat tour and finally a regular train back to where you started. I have done that with my parents at least once. And while the Veluwe and Veluwezoom aren't cities, they're still great to visit. :)
Yes I just wanted to say this! I especially love Zutphen since there are basically no modern buildings in the city center and you can become fully immersed in the 16th century architecture. I also visited Doesburg and the only thing I didn't like is that there were too many cars parked in the old streets.
Hi you two. My compliments on your channel. I like to see how you discover cities, food and you bring it all with such humor and also positivity. Keep up the good works.
Nice to see yall in my hometown!! Awesome you liked it and the little center is cozy for sure! Just a quick reccomendation if yall wanna see a nice beach area: Bergen aan Zee/Egmond aan Zee! 😺
Yesterday it was the first day of good weather so some places higher dj's or nusicians to play for their terraces, so I had the view of people dancing outside the store I work at 😂
When you ever come back (to Amersfoort) send me a message. My father works as a city guide on a boat (through the canals). I will ask him to give you guys a tour. I really enjoy your video’s. Keep up the good work!
If you are still looking for more city trip tips, from Rotterdam it's hard to beat my hometown of Dordrecht, the first official city in Holland to get city rights! It has one of the more stunning old centers, and some quite nice restaurants as well, you guys might like Rebel Rebel and Villa Augustus.
I was born in Amersfoort, went to live in Maastricht for more than 20 years, and now I’m back. I don’t think I can choose which one I loved more. Both magnificent cities. The thing I missed most when living in Maastricht was the water in the neighborhood and the jackdaws. When I was back I missed the dialect, Mestreechs, carnaval, the river, and Maria. I’m not Catholic but in the Maria chapels you experience the mystery, and feel a kind of peace.
Amersfoort is my favourite destination for a bike trip from Utrecht. And there is something weird with it, too, I think, because the province Utrecht really is a province in two parts: the Western part is essentially Randstad, most people there won't even really object to being called a "Hollander". But the eastern part is different: much more rural (much more religious, too), and definitely not Randstad. And Amersfoort sits exactly on the divide between "the two Utrechts". In the 17th century, the cities of Utrecht and Amersfoort were rivals, and competitors for trade. When there were plans to dig a new canal as part of an improved Water Line defense, Utrecht vetoed this, because they were afraid of Amersfoort getting a better connection to the Zuyderzee than Utrecht had. The result was that when Louis XIV attacked the Netherlands in 1672, he could march straight to Utrecht and basically sack the city, before he was stopped at the Water Line that was now not in front of, but behind Utrecht. City was bankrupted because of it (and suffered major damage in a storm, two years later. Without any money- or support from any other part of the country, recovery from that took until 1850. There's probably a lesson there about short term and long term vision ;-) )
So cool that you were in my hometown! Love that you loved it 🙂 If you ever come back for a visit I would recomment coming to Kattenbroek (Catspants) It's a neigbourhood in Amersfoort (with own trainstation when using public transport). This neigbourhood is designed by some of the weirdest architects and have pretty funny houses and street art. That's why it's even miniaturized in madurodam and in Japan. Just some advice for when you 2 want to come back to Amersfoort. Love your channel! Keep it up!
Your videos are getting better and better :) Amersfoort is a great city. I live in Utrecht and used to work in Amersfoort, so I recognize a lot of things in the video. The "Nieuwe Stad" reminds me of Katendrecht in Rotterdam: that is also an industrial area that has been transformed in a very nice place to live and go out. If I could not live in Utrecht, then Amersfoort would be a great second choice.
Please do came back to Amersfoort some time soon! And go try Anna's Smaakattelier! Anna won Heel Holland Bakt a couple of years ago and now runs a beautiful lunch/tea/cake store in Amersfoort! ❤🥧🍵☕
Haarlem! Just spent a weekend there.. visit Teylers Museum. Lovely old city with weird shops and a great vibe. End of spring early summer is even better.
Wow that escalated uberquickly! Great video guys! Love the combination of advice and your own research, i wasnt aware it was the old geographic centre. So even as a “Keientrekker” i learned something 😅 Greatest thing is you have lots more to explore for another visit! 🎉
Just watched it another time, because i had three nagging kids around me when i watched this morning. It did make me wonder why you don’t interact with us dutchies in your videos more. Could be just the way you choose to make your videos but you often say how nice people are and i really liked the Surinamese video. So maybe interact with us more 🎉 we are not as canera shy as you might think 😃
Great city, one of my favorites. I recommend visiting Mondriaans birth house, it isn’t large. But they did rebuild his NYC apartment, which is very cool.
I didn't know about the chandelier, thanks! 🙏🏽 Recommended: If you decide to go back to Amersfoort, you definitely have to go to Van Gogh Frituur from Arn Zuyderduin (and their superb stoofvlees!) Especially this year because it's their 25 yr anniversary.
How nice that you have also been to Amersfoort. But you know, the Netherlands has so many nice cities and villages, it is almost impossible to visit them all. But you are doing your best! And I, Amsterdammer, am very happy that you promote other places. My city, where I really avoid the center, has become one big outdoor amusement park. Tourists, tourists and more tourists. And now I live outside the city and now I am surrounded by poorly cycling tourists who visit the bulb fields.....aaaaargh.......
No trip to the Amersfoort zoo? Speaking of medieval castles, if you love visiting them i suggest that when you're ever in Limburg again i suggest checking out Hoensbroek and Valkenburg. Hoensbroek castle got named best castle in the Netherlands and just a stones throw away from Hoensbroek you have the old castle ruins of Valkenburg which has a lot of history (it got blown to pieces in the Franco Dutch war in 1672) and the center of Valkenburg is very nice and cozy.
Hi guys, you are really super nice and your videos are interesting and full of curiosities. We are organizing our summer holidays in Holland and you are giving us a lot of ideas!
Amersfoort is also a town on Staten Island. From the time that New York was New Amsterdam. (Staten Island) In 1664 the British took over and it became New York. As a tip, read the book: Island in the Center of the World. It tells the history of the Dutch until the overtake by the English. Its part of the American history (National Treasure) Amersfoort is also known as “Kei-Stad” Its symbol is a bolder from the last ice age, which towed into the city by the towns people and had a prominent place in the park near Monnikkendam.
at 4:40 I was so surprised because live in amersfoort and go though that bridge daily and never noticed that chandelier ps: I am glad you liked the city
There is also a small historic town called Monnickendam. You really should visit it, together with Marken (former isle), Edam, Broek in Waterland and Volendam. You won't regret is.
Hope you enjoyed my hometown! Its the best of both worlds: big enough to have something to do, but not so metropolitan as to have been ruined by masses of tourists and AirBnB's, and with nature/more rural areas not far away.
That's my city! Well, I don't live their now, but that's where I'm from. I can tell you were there on a friday, because of the flower market by the tower. You missed a few bits, or at least, they didn't make it into the video. There's plenty more to see. The Kamperbinnenpoort, 't Hof market square, de st. Joriskerk (saint George's church), de Appelmarkt, huis Cohen with the blue windows (in the background of your huis Tinnenburg shot), Flehite museum (also seen in the background).
It's funny. I've been living here for more than 20 years now. I come from near Maastricht. But you as a tourist you found places that I have never seen or noticed before. And yes, as a matter of fact I feel great here. No reason to leave yet. Maybe never.
I wonder how many takes that "Goedemorgen" took. It was perfect though. And I didn't know Amersfoort had so many well preserved late medieval buildings. Should visit some day.
Visit Deventer, Zutphen, Kampen and Zwolle in the east. Alle have good train connections. Really old, beautiful city centers. Oh and in Groningen province you have Bourtange. Almost impossible to get to without a car, but very beautiful old star fortress town.
I wonder … "Gula" means sugar in Indonesian. It's not used as a translation for sweets, so it might be something else entirely. Anyway, I'm rambling. Glad you're loving our little country!
Amersfoort is usually a city I pass by on my way to some place else, but yeah... It is a great city in its own right. Are Deventer and Enkhuizen on the list of cities to visit? Those popped up in my head just now. Like Amersfoort they have some really nice old buildings and architecture. Deventer is a Hanseatic city! And you must have already tried the traditional Enkhuizer Jodekoek... that also has a very rich buttery taste.
Dudes, if you loved Amersfoort then you definitely need to visit Zutphen!..But dont tell anyone else, the beauty of Zutphen is kind of a local secret..😉
Den-Bosch (aka 's-Hertogenbosch): 'we have our local delicacy, bosse bollen, pastry with lots of whipped cream and delicous chocolate' Amersfoort: 'w... we have dry cookies... darn...'
It is nice to see that you folks take the time to visit more places in the Netherlands. May I suggest that you take some more time and visit the northern island like Terschelling. You will be in for a treat after a ferry trip of almost 2 hours across the shallow sea. Furthermore Leeuwarden city center the capital of the province of Friesland is beautiful. Once you have done that take a trip to the province of Limburg. Especially the south with their capital Maastricht is great. Once in Maastricht especially when the weather is fine there is a very special vibe. You will not feel like your in the Netherlands but rather in a kind of nice nomansland with the borders of Belgium and Germany just a few steps away. But yes these trips do take more time.
we have a maastricht vlog - great city! we’re planning on heading to friesland in the summer, maybe with a camper van. very much looking forward to it!
I only knew Amersfoort from driving through it by train. I have never visited the city. I think I will sometime. I can strongly recommend Groningen. A beautifull city, I probebly think so because I was born there. Look at the central hall at the train station, especialy the ceiling. And visit some of the "hofjes". Housing areas for the poor, sick and widows. If you don't know wat to look for, you walk by them without notice them. And try the "Groninger koek".
Arnhem has to be on top of your list! Good vibes, fashion, Artez Univerity of Arts, SONSBEEK PARK best City Park in The Netherlands (Vondelpark in Amsterdam: eat your heart out). History (A bridge too far: WWII). Life is good in Arnhem. Must see: Eusebius Toren, Rozet Building, Focus Cinema (open air movie nights under the stars in Summer time...) Dudok Appeltaart, deck chairs at the Rijn, great architecture Central Station, near to The Veluwe, the Posbank, trolley buses unique in our country, cosy shopping areas. Stay the night at Hotel Molendal. The list is endless. Have fun! Ellen
you should visit Den Helder and Texel! Rent a e-scooter in Den Helder and take a tour around the flower fields and after a tour through the dunes and sea dike!
nice to see you in my hometown. I hope you saw more than what we see in the video. there are even more beautiful places and canals. it is a beautiful city to visit. unfortunately not so nice to live in anymore 🥲. it is becoming more and more a 2nd utrecht or Amsterdam 2.0 and is losing its own identity
How is it the first impression of the city? That's quite a walk from the station. you have to go through the center and a little tunnel I think (forgot what shops were there) anyhow awesome video.
@@buncharted I actually like the trainstation tbh. better than The Hague Central xD Sorry for being rude on the other video. ________________________________________ My apologies to the suriname restaurant owners. I was rude an ignorant and I completely forgot to apologize. Also I forgot if you already had a Pom Sandwich. Some suriname resaurants actually give you a small lasagne tray of the stuff. My mom used to eat that with some dutch white bread. Pom needs to be slightly orange, not potato based and in my mom's case not spicy. take the spicy one anyway :3
On top top of the amersfoortseberg there you have the belgenmonument, it’s a gift from Belgium to the Netherlands as a thank for housing all the refugees from Belgium during ww1. There is a beltower (carollion) used by the only beiaard (carillonneur) school of the Netherlands.
You noticed the muurhuizen. Those houses were the wall around the city. The koppelpoort is the only leftover structure in the Netherlands with a street gate and water gate in one building.
Funny to hear you still haven’t fully mastered the Dutch vowel shift and emphasis shift. But still a great review. And keep practicing those Dutch pronunciations.
That Taco Bell was the place where I first had Taco Bell, even though I've been stateside a number of times. Very disappointed to honest. Fairly bland. Haven't tried it since. I was just as surprised by Amersfoort as you. I've been at the central train station countless times, but had never actually visited. P.s. another word for bitterballen or bittergarnituur (includes a few other things) is bruin fruit: brown fruits.
Love the casual 'Goedemorgen'. It's so great to see how quickly you folks are picking up the language :)
I lived in the Netherlands my whole life and I don't think I have ever been to Amersfoort. You guys inspire me to travel in my home country more often.
Dit dus haha
alleen de dierentuin😅 nooit de stad zelf...

A dare which Everart Meyster and some other nobleguy had made. It was pulled from De Stompert (near Soesterberg) all the way to the city center!
I can't wait to try those chocolates in 3-4 weeks!
Amersfoort has the most underrated old city centre in the Netherlands as far as I know
100 % true...its beautiful
Thanks for visiting our awesome - more or less - medieval city !

I live in amersfoort❤ its rated the most beautiful city of europe this year
Wow, Amersfoort is so beautiful! I visited it once quickly, but I now realise I didn't see that much of it.
I think you will enjoy visiting Doesburg too. It's a cute 'Hanze' city and is very pictureresque.
I miss Amersfoort... Loved living there.
Many familiar sites, brought a smile to my face. Well done.
We moved to this city in 2017. Our 3 girls are born here too. We are going to move back to live closer to our parents (in law) in the next few years.
Oh and you should come back for the three course at Het Lokaal! These guys are so great!!
I can highly recommend the Hanzesteden (hanseatic league). A collection of cities that used to be part of a trade route and trade agreements between cities all over Northern Europe. In summer it is even more beautiful!
Thank you for your lovely video of my hometown Amersfoort, you managed to pick some great spots of our 😍city
Hi Michelle & Alex , Hope you had a nice day here in Amersfoort, if you live here you sometimes forget how beautiful it al is here have a good weekend
an absolutely gorgeous city!
Nice to see yall in my hometown!! Awesome you liked it and the little center is cozy for sure! Just a quick reccomendation if yall wanna see a nice beach area: Bergen aan Zee/Egmond aan Zee! 😺
Amersfoort rules. Especially in the summertime, read the many terrasses and music events. (I do not live there but visit like you do many cities)
Yesterday it was the first day of good weather so some places higher dj's or nusicians to play for their terraces, so I had the view of people dancing outside the store I work at 😂
I used to live in Amersfoort. And I used to work in a Coffee rostery factory, Smit&Dorlas. So I'm surprised there's another one like Smit&Dorlas.
i love the smell of roasted coffee beans 🥰
You should have tried the "Hazelnoot slagroom gebak" at bakkerij De Jong!
Leuke video, goed concept van jullie om Nederland te ontdekken en aan ons te laten zien.😍
My wife and I lived across the street from Jacoba. Best location we've ever lived.
A fun fact about the Muurhuizen (Wall houses) street: these houses are (partly) built with the bricks from the old city walls.
Amersfoort is the city where culturally Holland (the west) en the east-side of the Netherlands meet.
When you ever come back (to Amersfoort) send me a message. My father works as a city guide on a boat (through the canals). I will ask him to give you guys a tour. I really enjoy your video’s. Keep up the good work!

Many may have mentioned it already, but Delft is an absolute beautiful city. Sooo much history there!
I’m one of the ones who’ve mentioned Delft here before. Such a lovely, charming city.
looking forward to checking it out soon!
Delft is also beautiful but Amersfoort is very underrated...it really belongs to the most beautiful Cities in the Netherlands.

Den-Bosch (aka 's-Hertogenbosch): 'we have our local delicacy, bosse bollen, pastry with lots of whipped cream and delicous chocolate'
Amersfoort: 'w... we have dry cookies... darn...'
😂😂😂
And you need to visit my hometown heerlen!
I can recommend Alkmaar, a beautiful old city that has a cheesemarket every friday
Enschede, Zutphen, Nijmegen, Deventer, Den Bosch, Sneek,...
Sorry to say, but Amersfoort is more beautiful than Groningen

🤣😂🤣😂
@@Guido1111
Heb je het moeilijk ofzo? Mag ik iemands reactie niet grappig vinden?
Doe even normaal zeg. Ga iemand anders lastig vallen.
@@janharml Ach Ach, lange teentjes? Of is dat typisch Gronings😀
Have fun! Ellen
thank you for the recommendations! we definitely want to visit arnhem :)
you have to visit Giethoorn someday!
Stadsbrouwerij de drie Ringen!
i really like the bag pack Michelle has, mind sharing the brand and make?

You guys need to visit maastricht!!!
we did!! we have a vlog from a few months ago! it’s another amazing city :)
you should visit Den Helder and Texel! Rent a e-scooter in Den Helder and take a tour around the flower fields and after a tour through the dunes and sea dike!
ooh that’s a fun idea! we’re thinking about taking a camper van up there this summer :)
@@buncharted just dont tell anyone we have the best beaches around here 😅😅
You must go to Haarlem its old and beautiful
nice to see you in my hometown.
That's quite a walk from the station. you have to go through the center and a little tunnel I think (forgot what shops were there) anyhow awesome video.
first impressions at the train station weren’t the best since it’s a bit out of the city center, but it was a short walk and we warmed up to it 😄
@@buncharted I actually like the trainstation tbh. better than The Hague Central xD Sorry for being rude on the other video.

My apologies to the suriname restaurant owners.
If you like history Kampen would be a nice city to visit. It’s small but you haven’t visit the province Overijssel. Kampen has a very big history 😌
BTW, 2 Bitterballen, 1 Bitterbal.
there were 4 each 😄
Bought my first box of haze there beautiful place
Visit Apeldoornnnnnnnnn. Apenheul en paleis Het Loo near at my place. You can get mine bikes (for the day😄). Let me know
On top top of the amersfoortseberg there you have the belgenmonument, it’s a gift from Belgium to the Netherlands as a thank for housing all the refugees from Belgium during ww1. There is a beltower (carollion) used by the only beiaard (carillonneur) school of the Netherlands.
You noticed the muurhuizen. Those houses were the wall around the city. The koppelpoort is the only leftover structure in the Netherlands with a street gate and water gate in one building.
Thank you for showing my hometown this great! But Taco Bell? Common?! Why? Oh, and just take a coffee and pee there… And Het Lokaal is great!
isnt it nice..no car honking,no ambulance sirens :)
Funny to hear you still haven’t fully mastered the Dutch vowel shift and emphasis shift. But still a great review. And keep practicing those Dutch pronunciations.
So do you regret picking Rotterdam yet? 🤭
😂😂😂
😉😉😊
No cats in Amersfoort???
no 😭
They missed the most famous cat of the old city, called Poetin....
Next time go up north. I mean really up north like Friesland and Groningen. Beautiful up there.
we’re planning on it!!
