The G4 Instant is a worthy competitor in the Camera market now the it has received the update for Smart Detection and Line Crossing alerts. This really brings it right into the G4 range with features and makes it a viable option over the G4 Pro for home and small business, as long as you don't need audio. The Audio on the G4 Instant is pretty poor. The Smart Detection features were released about 4 weeks ago, you must have just missed them with the release of this video.
I have 1 plugged into my Synology NAS USB, 1 plugged into my Samsung TV and 1 plugged into an adapter plug, so cheap and cheerful can’t go wrong using the G3 instant indoors. Apparently the G4 instant now has smart detections with the latest Protect update out this week
The audio on both of them seem terrible. I have several G3s and only 2 of them have acceptable audio, the rest are almost silent. I've tried contacting support, exchanging them, resetting them - nothing fixes it. I hate them especially considering they've more than doubled the price on them. It doesn't look like the G4 has improved on this any at all. Any recommendations on a better camera with reliable audio?
@@Biska_Wolf Do you mean the G4 Instant is £80? I’m looking at the cameras now on the Unifi store and for GBP its £81.56 for the G4 Instant and £64.90 for the G3 Instant. So annoying that Ubiquiti have changed the price to these. Not sure how they can justify the huge price increase for the G3 Instant
its really annoying, ive just had a quick look and deleted some text wheres i shouldnt have on my laptop and its cause this error. Perhaps ill re upload it as its at a crucial part.
@@InsideWire G4 Instant sadly has a considerably lower FOV than G3 Instant. Also, that USB port would be a lot more useful if it could transfer power _and_ data.
@@shadow.banned First of all, a higher FOV is not always what you want. Personally I appreciate the slightly lower FOV as the content in the picture isn't as unnatural and stretched. I simply have no need for a high FOV. Secondly, all people have different needs power/data wise. For me again it's perfect feeding of a standard 220V socket and hooking the data up with wifi and nothing else. I am pretty sure the price would have been a lot different if the G4 would have had both power and data.
@@daol84 90% of the people who are buying $30-100 wifi cameras are replacing Wyze and Rings and Google Nest cameras... every single one of those cameras has wider FOVs than Ubiquiti's cheapest model. Which customer base is Ubiquiti trying to poach with these? Just because you don't need a wider FOV (what kind of consumer enthusiastically encourages downgrades?), doesn't mean others don't need it either. These are cameras that go above people's front doors, garages, and baby cribs.

Yep.. they came probably a few days after i released.. Maybe Ubiquiti listened to me haha.
I run a G3 instant directly plugged into a UPS usb port and it works just fine

While testing the indoor night vision, you had both camera’s IR enabled. So with only one camera running, the visibility would be less.
The size of the room is not massive so you would be able to see the whole room anyway.

Agree, it was a good budget camera.
