Thank you for sharing the challenges of being a monk. It's good how you emphasized the need to be Christ-centered more than task-centered, doing the work for Christ.
This is good. I liked the parallels between hearing your difficulties in being a monk with my difficulties in being a husband and father. I’ve stopped at your guys morning prayer on my way to work and have thought, “I wish I was up there praying with them as a monk.” However, I know I am in my vocation. I love my family. It just isn’t easy. It is easier when we (me and my family) live a Christ-centered life, but that isn’t always easy. Thanks for saying, “yes,” to God’s call.
Thanks for your vulnerability. Love your thoughts. I lived in a religious community myself when I was in my twenties, and I would say that living so close to each other is like being under a magnifying glass. It is great to be in communal life, and sometimes it sucks!! Another thought that came to my mind is” to compare is to despair” Because I tend to compare myself to what I externally perceive to be a person who is doing better than me:-) I hear you talk about constant prayer. I am learning through my practice of two way prayer, or journaling, writing that I need space to listen. My prayer is to ask… and to meditate or be still is to listen to what god says to me. God always answers my questions. I am 63 now, and I realize that I am a spiritual being, having a human experience. God help me to be in the moment. That is where you always reside.
Pax! waking up early for lauds and feeling sleepy while doing my lectio are the hardest challenges for me. on top of obeying the abbot (who i love) and the conversation murom lol
I am a Catholic female, I am a secular Franciscan, I am a candidate, as a lay secular third order candidate I stay in the world. I live out my vocation in the world. Good points Brother!
Thank you for share your spiritual experience... I was candidate for a religious life in the St. Paul Society and sometimes I feel regret... crisis arrise in every context or situatios that we choose... In the pray you´ll find the strengh to follow the Lord... I´ll pray for all of you who gives your life to God...
I would like to think that I am my greatest competition while I was in the seminary. I can't seem to appreciate the grace God has gifted me with. I am discerning, but I sure am would love to serve God. Please include me in your prayers.
An interesting talk - as ever, I enjoy your enthusiasm and commitment. I hope your journey as a monk will be a happy one - it won't be an easy or unchallenging one - it is not supposed to be.. But why the Welsh flag the background?
You will not stay because you are attached to the wrong things. Your talk and vlogs are just a facade. Words are your noise and you need to be silent. You use it as a dear diary. I don't personally think you are living a genuine form of Benedictine life. You use this vlog to fill the loneliness. You should move beyond it because being alone is not loneliness. Loneliness is self pity and ego. Being alone is wonderful and being in your own cell with God is a relief. Others can simply be a distraction.
Brother Francisco is a Benedictine monk, not a Trapist. Ora et Labora is the motto of the Benedictine order so, his vlogs and talks are just part of his work ( labora ) as a monk. There are times to be silent and there are times to talk, you cannot be silent all the time neither talking all the time, even Trapist monks have their time to talk to each other.
@@zzzaaayyynnn I don't understand how people can be rude to one another. But will always be prepared to defend another brother or sister in Christ. Thak you too.
Burying yourself in a cell is not what God wants people to do. He wants us to live lives of charity for others and no church is going to tell me different. The whole religious life thing, the vestment thing, . . . shows a church who thinks they know more than God. The Catholic Church no longer lives in the Middle Ages when people let their priests think for them. Modern young people are leaving it once they depart the family nest. Fear of God no longer exists. The reality that God is our Father and could never send one of His children to Hell is now understood. The whole concept of Hell and Purgatory is now understood as the Middle Ages misconception it truly is. I give Catholicism ten years!
Dude, if you seriously believe the whole Catholic Church (which has 1 billion followers) will only last a few more years, then why on earth did you take the time to write a full-length graduate thesis in the comments section of an obscure Catholic podcast? Don't you have better things to do with your time than waste it all on UA-cam? And by the way, speaking of outdated, your opinions on the Faith are WAYYY outdated: the woke, modernist heresies popularized in the 1970's and 80's are no longer relevant. Embrace the true and timeless traditions of the Catholic Church and you can be a great saint
You finish your comment accusing the Church of thinking it knows more than God, yet you start your comment pretending to know what God wants people to do. Strange way of reasoning , isn't it ? To be a monk is a call from God, what is wrong with leaving everything for the love of the kingdom? remember the pearl collector who sold all the pearls he had just to buy the one he thought was the more valuable ? that's a monk.
You may wish to look at current stats. Protestant churches are emptying out and the number of Catholics are increasing. This is especially with Gen Z, young men and women. The same for Orthodox. There is also an increase demand for the TLM and women veiling again. In some parishes Masses are standing room only. The number of RCIA is also increasing. People are looking for tradition not cheap rock concerts and “worship leaders” with unstable theology. Our politics are also going toward Catholic with the in-coming admin being the most Catholic in history not to mention the number of Catholic priests associated with it. 10 years? Yes. For mainline protestants and non-denominationals maybe
Yeah, justifying all the homophobia, transphobia, and natural papal condemnation of the abused, the repressed, and the oppressed must be so damned hard.
Years ago when I was still a Catholic priest I would have supported these videos but now, since leaving the priesthood, the church, religion, and even the idea of a god existing, it's incredibly hard to even watch these videos. This young man's youth and naivety really show through with his words and ideas. So confident in things he cannot possibly know; and don't say, "that's what faith is," because that's an uninformed response. The world is so big and has so much to offer yet, he locks himself away from it.
@@nontology diocesan priesthood is far too lonely a life. I do see the appeal of the monastery life - a bunch of guys living together. Also, the church is a business - keep the money coming in at the parish level, pay it to the bishop and he sends some of it to Rome. Always fundraising - especially in catholic schools. It gets old really fast.
You would think a priest would “get it “ but I did meet secular priests who were very ignorant about contemplative life as in this comment Perhaps Naïveté is better then cynicism and bitterness ?
Thanks for doing these. Appreciate you.

Beautiful down to earth insights, thank you ❤

Like the Welsh flag in the background. Blessings from the Third Order, Society of St. Francis (Anglican).

It is well. Even the apostles faced the same challenges. But our eyes should always be on Christ .
Do u have to be a priest to them become a monk..?!or do you studdy and graduate them become a monk.
You become a monk before becoming a priest. So right now I'm already a monk, and meanwhile I'm studying to become a priest
Why do you have personal possessions and secular things? Aren’t monks supposed to renounce everything? Just wondering.
What's with the Generation Z "gonna"???? Spell check please
X Genners do that too. Don't be a snob.
do you slip it to the other brothers?
Have you got your exorcism booked yet?
