I have two friends who were a former nun and priest. Both had said to me, separately on an occasion, that they were taught in the church to understand God; they were never taught how to understand spirituality. I'm reading many comments here that are very critical of this video and its unorthodox language, so to speak. What we are hearing here is not 'new age.' It is simply a beautiful blending of society's evolution of our own newer understanding today that there is no God without spirituality. The interpretations are the same. We need to be more open-minded - just like Hildegard's people in their day. She was certainly ahead of her time. Or rather, she was perfectly incarnated for her time, so that God could guide her to those people who would assist her in being just the legend that was necessary; for their time, and ours today. I thank you for this video, as I've listened and loved Hildegard's music. And now, I can say I've learned so much more about this woman, whom the heavens allowed to express her creativity for all generations to follow and be blessed by. May I add a side note: that I noticed she passed shortly before the birth of St. Francis of Assisi. Curious. Did she reincarnate as Francis? Who knows. There is wonderment galore abounding for those whose imaginations are blushing with more questions of 'why we are here.' ;)
Thank you for your additional comments. I understand that some people are seeing something different based upon their own relationship with Jesus. I am okay with that. The Head Abbess of Hildegard von Bingen Abbey (Benedictine) in Bingen, Germany personally gave me her approval of the film after I first screened it at the 2014 International Hildegard Congress. She said these kind words of "thank you for making her story more accessible to a younger audience. She is now in her eighties, and has clearly devoted her entire life as a Bride of Christ. I am not sure if those that speak differently in the comments are more qualified than her. But I respect their choice to say something different.
Half of those interviewed appreciate St. Hildegard’s intellect and reverence for the natural world, but they do not share in her beliefs as to who the Creator is. She worshipped Jesus Christ, saw Him in all of creation..never worshipping creation itself. He is above all, over all… St. Hildegard knew her Creator, and paid Him tribute in all. She knew Jesus, she loved Jesus. Do not fall for the perversion set forth by the devil, offering us the worship of creation and of ourselves rather than the Creator….the curanderos mentioned in the film practice a form of witchcraft masqueraded as benign natural healing. Anything that replaces our need for Him and encourages us to turn to self is not of Him. 🥺 St. Hildegard of Bingen, pray for us and all those tempted and confused by new age practices.
Well said, I was thinking the same. It's misguided compassion in some ways, self worship in others. Everything she learned was from God, I'm sure she'd be horrified as being put forth as a feminist. I was so grateful to see the video though. I love her and in my busy day would have forgotten about her. Instead, I will have a glass of violet and parsley wine, praising God and asking St. Hildegard to pray for us.

Thankyou for this good comment. It is truth. Mr Fox was well known in the 90s for preaching contrarily to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He finally dropped the priestly title, "Fr. Matthew Fox" when he wouldn't recant. He lead many away from the Holy Truth.
Such a good and important distinction. I saw a version of this type of confusion with the movie Cabrini and also the one on Dorothy Day -In the Company of Angels. The producers/writers were impressed with the 'do-gooder" aspect of these women without ever recognizing that their entire being was in and for Jesus Christ. Their prayer life sustained them, not their social or political zeal.
Saint Hildegard of Bingen was a faithful Catholic woman who defended the doctrine of the church, who fought against the errors of the Cathars. It was the Pope who was sympathetic with the visions and gifts that God gave to this woman of the church that granted her permission to create an abbesse called St. Rupert, the patron. She said the church needs her to correct what the herarchical church was not doing but was supposed to do for the glory of God.
I'm impressed. It's good to learn about the saints....It's encouraging to know that it is true that spiritual maturity is possible for both males and females, for people who are or have been poor, middle class, and yes even the rich and aristocratic can become saints. It's all very encouraging.
