Age of Mythology is a classic, you should also check out Age of Empires, another classic game by Ensemble Studios.

Most important one is that the population gain is giving you MAX population. If you have 3 settlements the enemy 2 you have 15 more MAX population than the enemy

@@RizZRizZ- You cannot build houses in AoM past a certain point, which leads you to a max pop of 100 (let's say that). So both players can just build 100 units. If you build a Town Center on a settlement, you gain +15 max population. So the player which have that extra TC can now build 115 units while his opponent stays at 100 units.

@@RizZRizZ- Sort of, it doesn't really change how houses work, but it does for TCs. They always added max pop when now it's not the TC itself but the settlement.
You may choose a better TC location at the cost of max pop, if it makes sense for the match.

The original Age of Mythology used to have over 10k players at its peak!
The game slowly died off over time as the ESO server was not maintained at the level it needed, there was a lot of bug abuse, map hacks, drop tricking for points and even "Ajax spawns" - The spawn hack used to still cost resources but the campaign Ajax was free, so they could spawn like 50 of them at the start of the game lol.
Up until the release of Retold, there were still a good 300ish dedicated players in Voobly, as well as a lot of split gamers in other streams such as Gameranger.
They fixed the Arkantos voice since the beta it seems - thank the Gods!

Athena in the new game sounds just like any other human. In the original it sounded more godlike, like her voice was coming from outside the mortal world. I suppose they did something to the sound in the original to make it so.

I loved the original AOM from 2002, and even bought the HD version a few years back with widescreen support and some remastering, but this new one is amazing and takes it to a new level.
They definitely improved the campaign voices compared to the Beta version. The Beta version of Arkantos sounded terrible.

@@lukasr1166 Could be, or as some others have suggested in the past, how about the Aztecs? The groundwork is already there, modders essentially made the civ already.
12:58 and was in AoE 3 in 2005. This feature has been part of the design in the 'family' for quite some time, and it's a super fun layer of customizability and added depth.
AoM was released before AoE 3 though!
I wish AoE4 would have proper arrows, flight arcs and non homing projectiles.
They also made the massive UI at the top smaller. Kudos to the developers for actually listening to feedback only a few weeks before release, rare these days.
What i really want to see again, are corpses/blood and slowly decaying rather than sinking into the ground.

25:39 basically both AOM and AOM:X had a big problem with release dates. If I recall correctly, AOM launched very close to Warcraft 3 and AOMX launched close to a blizzard expansion of some sort so the sales suffered as a result.

I have to agree with the ones complaining about the voice acting especially for Athena she sounds way to "modern" in her voice if that makes sense I've heard they are going to address the voice acting before release so they might fix that. But it's also one of those things that never needed to be improved for a remake so it's a strange decision to even make new voice acting.
The destruction physics is just WOW!
I think those different displays of costs of god powers are because the actual cost is not an integer (whole number) and one display is rounded up and one is rounded down for some reason.
At least I've seen many visualisations of technologies where this was the case and I've personally accidentaly did that a few times too.
Age of Mythology and Rise of Nations were my favorite RTS games growing up!! Throw in a little Command and Conquer: Generals and Halo Wars for some spice, and youve got hours and hours and hours of fun!

One major advantage Age of Mythology Retold had over Warcraft 3 Reforged, they redid the Cutscenes and used different perspectives and they felt more "Cinematic".
So much for that mind blowing Reforged Cutscene. lol

Lol did not expect the Hera PTSD... nice touch. Glad you enjoyed it! Hopefully it gets good marketing and player reception, as I personally think devs have been putting passion into this release (even if it needs more refinement).
You should try Stars Galactic Battleground Saga. Age of empires meets star wars. It can get kind of wild especially with the addition of flying elements
The original Athena sounded more ethereal, maybe it is just nostalgia.. It still isn't a game changer but I have always thought it is pretty bizarre when games/media do the half ***** approach and have an accented voice actor/actor but don't just go all the way and have them speak in the actual language with English subtitles. Right? Just have English ethereal voice in English version...

I played a little of the beta, it really was a lot of fun . Some questionable choices here and there, but they got the feel right on.

Original voice acting is much better, for Athena especially. New Arkantos is passable.

I understood what they were going for but there is a reason they got Gerald Butler to play King Leonidous back in the day. He might not have been “authentic” but he could act less act.
They should've brought back the og VAs from the start and just told them to give their deliveries in a greek accent and everything would've been fine.
Mods have come out, and more will, to place back the old voices, so it will be fine.

@@MarkusHauthaler The official ones are already out, and they are bad. The first voices from the first gameplay showcases were placeholders, but they already showed the new ones and they are pretty bad compared to the original ones. They have Arkantos forcing a greek accent.

I think remasters should brush up the graphics, and add quality of life improvements to gameplay.. but, I think nostalgia is closely tied to the voice lines.

Game of my childhood.
i Think AoE2 took off . first because it was launched at the right time of PC home usage and internet boom. Second AoE2 diffe for M and even 3 because those have far more differences per Civilization and that adds much more complexity. AoE2 its a RTS complex but right on the treshold of dificulty. While on AoE3 you need to build card decks. control points on the maps. choose different Age up bonus. AoM its the same choose different Age up bonus. gods gameplay vary much.
That arkantos voice doesn't sound bad, but his animation of hitting feels like a hollywood actor swinging a spear rather than a heroic warrior swinging the spear it just feels so weightless an perfunctory. I'm not a big fan of the thick accents and lack of effects in the voices like the new athena sounds like someone talking to mic while the old one sounds like someone spiritual talking to you in a dream.
Slipstream when behind another horsepower thing. It's plausible as with cars😂
I wasn't impressed with Age 4, but this looks great and feels really good. I like the mechanics and the focus on strats and aggression

They changed the VA from the beta from the greek sounding accent, the complaints were about that
Greek accent was fine in and of itself. It was the intonation and gravitas that were completely lacking.

Arkantos' new voice actor is not bad, sounds similar but that change in Athena's voice is unsettling, definitely a bad choice imo.
sweet!! 100% gonna buy this.. one of the few games i played that actually exceeded my expectations by far. AoE rocked my world (wasn't hard since i was like 9). in my early teens i've been looking for something similair.. discovered empire earth wich was pretty sick a good runner up but then i discovered AoE but with monsters.. and it was over. This is it!!
