      The Herd with Colin Cowherd most definitely, and I agree with you Colin: I'd keep the seven you listed and get rid of everyone else. We've held onto the old vanguard for far too long, and are squandering our youth's development.

      Young US Players should not go to college (or MLS), they must go to Europe.
      There is real competition and the real stages of career.

      Most DON'T go to college because many Division I schools don't have a men's soccer program because of NCAA rules to require equal number of sports programs for women and men...

      Marek Lame To make it in Europe its totally other level. I am from Germany and Most of the German players in the highest german league are under professionel conditions since they where 14 years old or even younger. They have atleast 2 times a day training under professionel Coaches(fulltime Job)and matches against highest quality teams at their age every weekend.German Clubs Spend millions of Dollars every year to find and train them.

      The Herd with Colin Cowherd Absolutely clean house. NOW. I want to thank Alexi Lalas for speaking the truth and calling out this USMNT for being soft. Never in my lifetime would I witness such a putrefying failure as missing out on a World Cup because we can't beat or even draw against the bottom of the hexagonal totem pole in T&T. Never would I think that match was the TNT that would eradicate our World Cup dreams. Now, granted, we shouldn't have been in this spot in the first place, but how can they explain not taking care of business when all the chips are in?? Trinidad and Tobago were playing for one thing...PRIDE. And they showed that throughout the match. We didn't. I care not that Panama got lucky on the 'phantom goal'. I care not that Mexico couldn't bail us out by at least drawing with Honduras. We had the easiest match in the hexagonal and we CHOKED. End of story. Clean house right now. Start with Bruce Arena and Sunil Gulati, then trickle down to the players. Then look at what the rest of the world is doing and how they're able to produce a great or decent team. Our way ain't working; time to fix that, too.

    The biggest problem with American soccer? Children have to pay to play. It's a sport of the privileged here. The kids from low income backgrounds get overlooked for kids that have the money to play travel ball.

    • @nesk2011
      @nesk2011 6 років тому +43

      In most western european youth teams you have to pay too. Only if you are really talented and get a spot in a pro academy you are not gonna pay.

    • @nesk2011
      @nesk2011 6 років тому +21

      I'm talking if you want to play in a team. In every youth team in europe you have to pay for the player license and equipment and so on...if you have enough talent for a big academy then they have money and you don't have to pay.

      Claudio Dio I wish I lived there lol I live in the US but usually clubs I join I need too pay like $200 or $300 even if I’m that good I still need to pay I’m a team player you can say I can play any position you need me and not trying to sounds like a cocky guy but I’ve had Coaches tell me they love how I play they say I’m a great player . Clubs offer me to join but they tend to ask for money I can’t give that’s the thing that’s sucks but I still give it all .i wanna play professional football or soccer but I know it won’t be easy given .so I give it my all yah get me

      Here in argentina money won't get you far, you either have it or you don't. Only talent can make you a professional. It has nothing to do with money it's cultural, USA just doesn't have what it needs to play the sport.

    The problem is all these soccer leagues for kids that cost 1000$ per season. Many underprivileged kids can't go and are left behind. Look at Brazil almost all of their players come from very poor backgrounds Neymar, Ronaldhino, Pele etc

      Phantom - I have to agree. With the money currently given out in the NBA, why would American kids play soccer? Even a backup point guard in the NBA makes more money than world class football players.

    • @DanielAnderson-is3mo
      @DanielAnderson-is3mo 6 років тому +25

      Germany, Spain, Argentina? They are basically all white teams. Your skin color has nothing to do with your athletic ability. Soccer is not just about pure athletic ability, that is what makes it so awesome. Technical skills and tactical thinking also come into play. Most of Brazil's team is mixed too, so you can't say there are no white people on the team when most of the team has white blood in them.

I don’t think that MLS will ever be considered a top tier league world wide but I do believe it holds the potential of being the top league in the world outside of Europe.

    The problem not being addressed is how terrible the US youth soccer system is. In the euro and South American counties, kids are scouted from the school yard and there's academies every where that have trials. Here in the states you have to pay thousands of dollars and on top of that you need to know someone. I can't even count the number of opportunities that I lost just because I came from a low income home.

      Even if it wasn’t pay for play, we would still suck, people who think we suck cause the pay system is in affect are idiots, people just don’t love the sport in America in general, kids who like the sport don’t like it anywhere near as much as people in Europe, where kids dribble down the street almost everywhere you look, you don’t see that in America and kids in America don’t gather randomly and make games with eachother in the street and neighborhoods, some Americas say they love the sport but their threshold for love of the game is low, people who truly love it are over in Europe and South America

Honduras and Panama played with a lot of emotion yesterday and all this ghost goal stuff doesn't matter because the U.S. had one objective and that was either win or draw. That's it they don't have to wait for other results they just have to get theirs.

      Harry Garris Because US has made every World Cup since 1990 and soccer was less popular back then than it is now. The MLS is at its best currently and there are more players in top divisions in Europe than at any other time. Futbol is like loving the wrong person. When you win you feel so happy, everything is great. Everything feels great and when something is wrong you remember your team winning and immediately feel better. But when defeat happens sadness prevails. And one feels so bad. It hurts so much...

    • @andresrojas7924
      @andresrojas7924 6 років тому +3

      Yes. There is actually a recent study mixing ratings, games played, analysis of players, etc and Conmebol was by far the hardest of all Federations. If you replace any of the qualified Concacaf teams with a random Conmebol team (not even a qualified one, a random one), that Concacaf team would most likely not qualify.

    • @mariachi211
      @mariachi211 6 років тому +1

      Conmebol is the 2nd hardest of WC qualifiers. If you cant finish ahead of awful Peru, you dont deserve to be in the World Cup.

    • @peruguy7
      @peruguy7 6 років тому +6

      Tundra Peru awful? Lol you must not watch a lot of soccer, they're 12 in the current FIFA world rankings, just tied Colombia and Argentina in La bombonera. And anytime that finished in the top 5 of CONMEBOL is a top tier team buddy

    • @mariachi211
      @mariachi211 6 років тому +1

      "Top tier teams" are likes of Brazil, Spain, Germany, France, Belgium etc. Top 5 of Conmebol is a team that barely qualified, Peru team that has no great players, no "top tier" players, not even close. NONE. If you honestly believe Peru is on the same level as team above, then good luck to you. I dont know what else to say. Are you from Peru?
      Using FIFA world rankings or 5th spot in Conmebol is a weak argument.

      Ryan G Coach brings him in and gets fired than the team gets rid of Freddy. That's happen on a lot of occasions. He wears a heavy burden and can't be another player. If the team fails with a hard cap especially with a hard cap for domestic players. At some point it had to get to him. He's expected to humble and have no life. God forbid he parties. He's not well liked fairly or unfairly. I see Jordan Morris get paid millions and be guaranteed his playing role despite not being better than Oalex Anderson before his knee injury. But Adu gets ostracized because of this savior label that leaves a sour taste.

      True, but Panama making it to the World Cup alone is achievement enough, especially if it's their first time, and many of their players are retiring. It's even sweeter when they managed to score their first ever goal in thr World Cup, against England no less.
      With the way that the USMNT played during the qualifications, I'd imagine they would've fared like New Zealand back in South Africa 2010 - undefeated, but were knocked out of the group stage nontheless.

Let's promote Soccer(Football) for four seasons of the year under rain and snow as the rest of the world. This sport will lower the drug and depression in our kids. Thanks to Alexi Lalas the best in my opinion because he feels the culture of this sport. Latin America respect this guy because is one of the few Americans that got the point. I think the real problem is Nationalism and hate for soccer, we won't stop be Americans because of soccer however, don't tell an Argentinian Grandma that US sports are better that soccer because she will beat you down . THANK YOU!! THIS is why I've been saying the men could learn something from the women, because of everything he just said at the end there. Our women have 1 or 2 clearly defined formations and a style of play that is delivered to the players by a coach that is capable of articulating everyone's roles within the system. Once they have that, they are RUTHLESS with player selection. If you don't fit the system, you're either on the bench or you're out. If you fit but don't put in the work, you're not even on the bench, you're gone. Ruthless selection makes for roster competition, which produces consistently strong performances because every time they step on the field they're literally playing for a spot in the next game, the next tournament. Look at their interviews from the 2011 World qualifying phase on UA-cam, they're in my inspiration playlists. Players that were mainstays then, and those who are now, ALL talked about the pressure to perform because they KNEW that if they didn't they won't even make the team let alone go to the World Cup. This isn't gender specific, we can learn from the women's methods in player identification, selection, development and implementation. We just have to let go of this ridiculously childish notion that "they're girls, it's not the same".

    This country has so many soccer talents that isn't interested in playing cuz of the way the system is been structured. We need to put more money in developmental soccer to encourage all families and not just families who can afford to enroll their kids in select soccer. There are a lot of talents out there that cannot afford " The pay to play. They should completely re- structure the entire recruiting process which only allows kids to be recruited from college. Our college soccer is not even competitive nor popular . Real soccer players wants to focus on playing then school. Messi, Ronaldo, Ronaldhino, Pele, Maradona, Zidane and many more professional players did not get picked from college. I know a lot of young talents on top team bench that are still in high school and might not go to college till later after their career. The MLS also needs to be ripped apart and teams need to start relegating if they do not perform well in a season just like every soccer nation in the world. It will encourage USL league and other minor leagues to step up their game. The MLS also need to be paying better than just the retired designated players making millions. Why should a professional soccer player be making less than $60.000 a year? it does not encourage any potential talent.

      That was strange, I feel similarly -- watching your best player get hacked down by deliberate attempts to main and injure him -- and all the rest of the U.S. players turn away from Pulisic. Seriously lack of team spirit and empathy evident there. U.S. players in MLS matches are well known for having end-of-game American style shoving matches over nothing, but in the most important tournament in soccer, they can't get excited at all about their star player having a bulls-eye target on his back? Serious brain cramp in the rest of team USA on this. The standard operating procedure in leagues around the world when the referee allows your star player to be in dangerously and continuously fouled is to surround the referee and bump him a little until someone gets a yellow card. That's how you get your message across that he's missing these calls. Opponents are always going to try to injure Pulisic until one of them gets a yellow card -- it's part of their ordinary game plan. You have to take this into account and respond strategically to this threat.

    i'm from Spain, and i've being all my life a coach so know a little about the sport, and how it works 1-This sport is not about having big, strong and fast athletes. You're so wrong if you think that if lebron, kobe, obj etc. played soccer you woud have a better team. NO, this sport is based 70-80% just in pure skills the example is that the number 1 and 2 (messi/cr7) are physically the opposite. This sport is played by average people (in terms of athleticism), but insane amount of skills with the ball on their feet. 2-To do that you have to develop the skill in the early stages of your life 5-7 years of age, in the streets with no rules against people 2-3 years older than you. There you create that magical and especial talent. With out that it doesn't matter how many time you spend in the gym to became big, strong or fast you'll never be a world class player(by world class player a mean a starter of the top teams in the world RMD, FCB MU, BM, PSG etc. )
    3- Then a scout see you an ask you to be a part of the big team's academy, but again because you already have that skills, and you're above average. And that happens when you're arround 10-14 years old. It is very rare to see a big Academy recruiting people when they are older than 16-17. When you're there they teach you the tactics, a deep understanding of the game and the style the team use to play. After that, they start with the high trainings, cardio session, special diet, gym sessions and then is when you became an athlete. So the order is always this 1-skills-2-tactics-3-athleticism, not the other way arround.
    4- to develop all of this is basic to get rid of the pay-to-play system, other ways it will be just impossible to the us soccer to have a high competitive team. Because all those boys usually
    tend to come from the poorest parts of the population.

    Lalas is 100% correct. The Mexican national team, even when they win 80% of the time the game analysis spend it saying how they got lucky, how they aren't good enough and pointing out all the bad things.

    I am coaching in USA since 1983 when I came play soccer in New York, the youth soccer clubs and leagues are for profitability just like MLS and US Soccer Federation, they not interest in poor communities to help kids of low income classes to play soccer. No coaches, parents from the middle class or rich want to do nothing in this communities, even the immigrants kids when they come to america, their parents want them in the rich soccer programs. In Brasil talents kids in soccer comes from the favelas, poor communities, rich kids play soccer till they grown up to 13 yrs old and tell they parents they don't want to play soccer anymore because their over coached by their coaches and parents. THe whole mentality and systems of youth soccer development must change or soccer will die again in USA. Have you see how Much money parents pay for their kids to play on a travel team? Have you see how much money us youth soccer program charge for the us youth soccer tryouts? Soccer In US is for rich Kids and rich kids do not have talent for soccer, will not have enough hungry to live soccer 24/7 and all these US ex former from US knows that. Like Claudio Reyna, Tab Ramos and others that came to America poor Kids.

    As a mexican american, im glad to see reactions like this(even though it took the usmnt to not qualify to go to the world cup to finally have people talking about their national soccer team). I hope that the team takes all the critism they get seriously and learn. Everytime I saw the usmnt play, it felt like they were playing to win but not necessarily playing as if they NEEDED to win. As for the people who say "Who cares about soccer"....well imo you're partically to blame for this as the players didn't have a country behind their back. They had like maybe a third of it.

    I hope they use this to come back stronger and better. Invest in college soccer that kids have a reason to play well while in middle and high school. You'll get a huge pool of players with D1 University soccer league. You do this and within 20 years the U.S. will be a soccer super power.
    Sincerely, a concerned Mexican

    • @danny1178
      @danny1178 6 років тому

      That's part of the problem though D1 universities don't always have the BEST players. Not to say that they're not really good because they are, but they get there because they had the money to travel and get exposure that other players wouldn't have gotten. I've met and played with plenty of D2 and D3 players that are amazing, but never had the money for the pay to win system

      KingShadow11 Yup. US Women's Team does it all the time, that's why they are a top team in the World, they play and run as a unit. Even if the other teams don't care about the friendly, it'll condition the USMNT to be able to play together better, know how to flow with each other better. We don't have a Messi that can do it all for us, at least for not another 4 years.
