I am late to the party - but thanks for this great tribute. Rutger Hauer was so special and talented. Maybe, he probably was too special for mainstream Hollywood. But he was the true star of "The Bladerunner". While Harrison Ford - whom I actually like - could've been easily replaced by another actor, without Rutger and his wonderful final monologue the movie would not have been the same.

@@PopCultureMinefield, it's great that you knew him personally. Do you know why he wasn't cast in many more important films? Even when he was older he remained very attractive. Was he too outlandish and special for mainstream Hollywood? But his intelligence and his acting chops cannot be questioned. Without him "The Bladerunner" would not have been the same! He was Deckard’s antagonist - but IMO he wasn't the villain. There are no clear-cut villains in that movie. If we look at the narrative from a different perspective, Roy Batty could have easily been the hero, who was fighting for a better life - not just for himself but also for his lover and his rebellious fellow replicants. Roy Batty could have been a character like Kirk Douglas in Stanley Kubrick's "Spartacus"!

I first saw the theatrical cut of the movie, which IMO is underrated because of Harrison Ford's voice-over and the somewhat corny happy end. But the voice-over contains a lot of important informations. We learn from Deckard that Roy didn't die peacefully and quickly after he had delivered his great monologue. He struggled all night, while Deckard stayed with him and watched him die! And I actually like that Rick and Rachel drive into the sunset. It could have been done more subtly, but after all this rain in LA they deserved a bit of sunshine 😊
Great directors like Christopher Nolan have said, that they actually prefer the theatrical cut - especially for first-time viewers. Denis Villeneuve was also heavily influenced by the theatrical cut, when he made the sequel.

Thankyou mate, I grew up with him as well, watching everything i could on vhs in the 80s and 90s. I'm 51 now and I've been going through his movies again, and I find myself saying the same thing you did, through tears, at the end of this video, " I love you Rutger".
Why did he affect people the way he did? He was and will always be a legend.

WATCHED HIM PLAY WITH MY KIDS AND ACCEPT ME AND MY FAMILY IN 2012 IN NC. MEETING HIM WAS ONE OF THE BEST MOMENTS OF OUR LIVES. TRULY A SWEET AND WONDERFUL MAN. I WATCHED HIM DO THIS WITH EVERYONE THOSE DAYS, EACH PERSON GREETED AND GIVEN HIS ATTENTION. WORDS CANNOT EXPRESS THE MAN BEHIND THE ROLES. YOU CAN VIEW THE VIDEO OF HIS TALK ABOUT BALDE RUNNER DURING THIS MAD MONSTER PARTY. MET SO MANY WONDERFUL PEOPLE BUT HIM? OH MAN. CAN'T EVEN BEGIN TO TELL YOU HOW THIS HURTS. HE IS THE REAL DEAL. IT WAS WORTH IT.

What a wonderful moment. Thank you so much for sharing.
I found that he and William (Bill) Sanderson are both two really kind and loving people. Bill fed my daughter, and got weepy eyed doing it.
      Again, thank you. --Gerry

I had bought a photo op with and Rutger for a film and comic con Birmingham UK. I was going to take the opportunity also go to his table get something signed and hopefully the opportunity to talk. The photo op was dirt cheap at only around £20 such a small amount for s big actor of his status. Later I found he couldn't make it can't remember the reason they stated. I was absolutely gutted. I still travelled from Scotland to Birmingham to go to that convention but my heart wasn't in it the same. Rutger was main acting interest then. There wasn't another guest there I was desperate to see. I wore my Rutger t-shirt and still had an okay time I guess. I didn't blame Rutger these things happen but I couldn't help my disappointment. Later that same year I think he died. He nust have been unwell a reason he couldn't attend. He had appeared at other conventions in other years before that. I wished I'd taken the time then to attend one before it was too late.

Sexiest man alive???---YES, NO DOUBT!!, even though he's gone 😢... Rutger Hauer brought such a magnetic presence to the screen; be it hero or villain---but his roles portrayed him as a hero, esp in my mind. He'll always be "Hotter Than Hell" to me!!!❤❤❤❤❤😊

Thank you. For me he was a kind and sweet man, who had a mischievous sense of humor.
