    Really love the idea of that Rainman - very much because it's portable. The thing about boat upgrades is that you never get back what you invest if you come to sell, so being able to take it with you to a new boat definitely makes sense.

      When it comes to being able to easily take it with you, that’s such a valuable aspect to my mind, for a whole host of different reasons, especially if you want to take it easily to your next boat too 👌🏼⛵️

    • @CadohaAdventures
      @CadohaAdventures  Рік тому

      Thought about it, but we spend most of our time in anchorages that protect us from the wind and no one has any solid data on exactly how much these things produce power-wise, living the way we do on a boat.
      In the end it seems that just adding more solar equates to more bang for your buck over the season, by a long way.

    We bought the same one last yeah, we found it uses a lot of power when filling more than one tank - we have 3 tanks.
    Fill one tank and let the batteries recharge before filling the next.
    Batteries recharge faster if they are not discharged too much.
    Don't forget to run a bucket of filtered water through to clear out salt water from the system before storing.
    The water is great and the system is so easy and reliable.

    • @CadohaAdventures
      @CadohaAdventures  2 роки тому

    Next step would be actual solar sails...
    We've just taken the plunge and bought a 1975 Westerly Berwick (that's been heavily updated - new mast, boom, engine, sails, rig, nav gear, autopilot) so maybe we'll see you out there next year (my wife's starting from scratch so a lot to learn - she's already studying for her day skipper)...our dream is the isles of Scilly, but the Bristol channel has a LOT of challenges to overcome first: once we can sail here, the World is our oyster 🌎⛵.

    How is the flinsail holding up after 2 years? Still happy with it? Is it practical to deploy in most situations?

    • @CadohaAdventures
      @CadohaAdventures  23 дні тому

      It still works fine and is a great addition to our power systems. For me it's a great final piece of the puzzle, after you've maxed out everywhere else you can put panels. For example we had 400w in folding deployable panels that we just threw on the deck when at anchor and even with the various shading that happens throughout the day from stays etc, it puts in more power than the Flin solar did, and it's a 1/3 of the price and folds up into a comparable sized package for stowage.
      Again we're happy to have it, especially since we've already maxed out most other options for power generation on board.

    Well done guys solar sails and the rainman portable water makers.. 👍🏼😎⛵
    The water is is totally de mineralised..so its like pure rain water.. if you have a drinking water tap fit a mineralisation output filter to it to improve the health value... hard water has better health properties long term ...this is soft water like rain water so lacks any healthy dissolved minerals that give water its taste and protect your body... as live aboards you may get more of a benefit long term compared to demineralised/ stripped water.
    You can get test meters to check for the salinity levels.
    Check your output each time before you dump it into your boats tanks or if theres a failure you might salt your remaining fresh water in the tanks. .
    It will say in the instructions but
    Its probably best to use it at least weekly or you may have to pickle it between uses after say 10 days?

    • @CadohaAdventures
      @CadohaAdventures  2 роки тому +1

      Appreciate all that, Clive. Yes I think we need a PPM meter, although I do a taste test before going into the tanks with it. We currently run it every couple of days to keep the tanks topped up and the system clear, but yes you are right, you need to flush it if it's going to be left much longer, and pickled if it's not going to be used medium to longterm.

    This really looks like a very cool technology. One question crosses my mind though: Is the watermaker a permanent solution or do you need to replace parts on a regular schedule? Are those parts available as some kind of industry standard or are they proprietary?

    • @CadohaAdventures
      @CadohaAdventures  2 роки тому +1

      There’s pre filters which I think are standard industry parts, not sure on the actual membranes themselves but I’m told that with due care they should last 5+ years, and the other perishables are oil and an impeller for the pump, again low cost items you can always stock up on before you set off.

      @@CadohaAdventures Your filming & editing, and overall storytelling skill was great. Informative & inspirational for peeps who love sailing channels like me. The issue here is the improper use or clickbait thumbnail. The nature of UA-cam requires awesome thumbnails, otherwise you won't get rhe views, and girls in bikinis are great clickbait. The ONLY issue here is you crossed the line by not including the clickbait thumbnail in any scene in your video. The smart move is to always include the thumbnail in the video, otherwise you'll piss people off. You work damn hard at producing great content so why jeopardize pissing people off by using improper clickbait. In other words, a great thumbnail needs to be great clickbait, just make sure that thumbnail is in the video from now on. This is just a suggestion, meant to help you continue to do great work.
