I had completely forgotten about this 80's "Velveeta" gold! I was just watching the old "Equalizer" series on NBC "Throwback" and suddenly I remembered that there was a series...that opened with closeups of a car...a Stingray...30-seconds later I was here watching this...and yep, that's what I saw, back in the 80's!
Sixties, Seventies, and Eighties were the best for music and tv shows! Awesome productions and cast members. Nick Mancuso was a legend!" That Black Stingray Corvette must have paid big dollars to whomever loaned to be used for the series! I remember The A-Team, Riptide, Hunter, Jack Lord in the original Hawaii Five O, T.J. Hooker, Police Story/Policewoman, Emergency with Lorne Greene, and original Battlestar Galactic! Epic Shows made by producers and directors that put so much hard work and dedication to delivering quality tv and movie industry shows. Thank you all and you certainly deserve your Oscar awards. I kid you not. When I was at a city carnival, I saw Nick Mancuso sporting his glass's. I watched him for about 5 min just standing there against a tree. Then, he saw me looking at him and walked off. I followed him with my friends. They didn't belief it was him. We lost sight of him as he went behind some food vendors. When we got there we could not see him anymore. Then, down the road came his Stingray car. My friends and I freaked out. Coolest thing ever.
I remember watching this show religiously in the 80's whilst being too young to understand any of the plot or dialogue.... yet I kept on watching it! I guess that's just the charm of the 80's :)
Definitely agree with you - this show was edgy and intelligent, but probably too clever for its time, hence the rather short run it had. You need to keep in mind that people were watching high-octane TV shows like Knight Rider, Airwolf, A-Team, Miami Vice, etc and probably weren't ready for a show like this. 'Tis a shame though - I bought the series on DVD and it's awesome!
Angela Lansbury and her husband ruled the roost back then. She wanted her show Murder She Wrote so they canned Stingray and Street Hawk and cheapened Knight Rider with a new writer. This was a great show, really a shame it got cancelled cause of a silly squabble.
Stingray was The series that only Nick Mancuso could only play. There will never be another like man. This s guy wan me in the eighties. My little nephew was trying call me Sting Ray, and I never knew it until I saw the show 1 Friday night. I just thought he liked stingray Corvettes. He thought this s guy was the shit. I liked this show alot. However I know no one will ever be able to be Ray not even me.
I think that (Sting)Ray and (The Equalizer) McCall probably worked together back in the day. At least, that's my working theory...based on the coolness of their respective intros!
Good to see this one again, great memories from when i was a kid. Too bad shows like Hardcastle & McCormick and Streethawk had never been broadcasted here in the Netherlands, think it would be cool back then..
Aiber Lane Yep - “Airwolf”, “The Equalizer”, “Street Hawk”, “Miami Vice” and this. Even “The Highwayman” in ‘88 had a fairly innovative intro sequence for the time (as far as video-generated opening titles, given television production on the whole was moving away from film-negative post).
if he needed help, he had so many connection from previous people he helped out, to get helped by and he never asked money for his aid, he did it for the good, that the good reigns over the bad. Stingray was an idalist and a knight against evil.
Love this theme song as my dad loves Stingray series. This theme song reminds me of Rocky 2 music in vinyl as it should've been played in: 1. Digimon Adventure 01-02 (Opening Credits). 2. Pokémon Season 1-5 (Opening Credits). 3. X men: Evolution series (Opening Credits).
We need this back, bad. And now with Chevy's re-release of the Stingray in 2014, we have the perfect starting point. Pick for lead character......no idea.
It's odd how Nick Mancuso 's (the actor in 'Stingray) career went nowhere after this show...while Robert Loggia's career was somewhat revived. This was partly due to his role in a detective/cop show (Mancuso, FBI , circa 1989/1990). Loggia played the character 'Nick Mancuso'. Talk about a kick in the head to actor Nick Mancuso.
i remembered one episode where he escaped fbi custody in a restaurant using his jacket and slight of hand and another where he was in cuffs and he looked at this cop and said ' i need a favor 'and the cop let him escape. stingray was the man!
a smartly written show with an intelligent character. shame this show couldn't work when another smart lone ranger character, the Equilizer, could. Maybe Hollywood needs to do a Stingray movie, too?

james huggins Is that right? Wondered why it had an erratic broadcast pattern. Pilot in July '85, 1st Season March '86. 2nd Season the following January. Either the network didn't like it or Cannell was slow in delivery. I reckon the latter.
I had a professor who was a total asshole to me, but I had to endure it for a 5 wk rotation to graduate. I would go to my apartment, pop in a DVD of this show over dinner, and get a little misty-eyed over the simpler times of being 10 years old.
Omg classic!!!! The ‘80s ruled. No decade will ever come close.
+10
Yes yes
"Stingray" and "Tour of Duty", that's all the TV series that were ever needed... ;-)
My favorite show from my favorite decade. Happy I came of age in the 1980s
Mike Post wrote some great music, this being one of his best. Watched this show when I was a kid and still remember the music all these years later.
i think one of the best series ever !
highly underrated
Agreed!
You're sooo fuckin right
a great tv series
Correct if I´m wrong but the story is never told to the end

Oh yeah, Friday nights in October 1986. This was part of my lineup when tv was TV!!!
Cool Breeze me on saturdays afternoon in France !I was in my late childhood, very early teens !loved it !
And Dudes were Dudes.
Did it air then in re-runs? The 2nd Season didn’t begin until January ‘87.
i remember that Friday night lineup the 86-87 season. The A-Team at 8p, Stingray at 9p and Miami Vice at 10p
@@AirwolfArchive I don't think there was a 2nd season.🤔
Arguably one of the best cars I've seen in a good while.
Mike Post goodness right here. The man never wrote a bad theme song.
Stingray sliding at the beginning is the best part, goes perfectly with the music and Iconic (most likely) Yamaha DX7 tunes
The Lone Ranger for the 80's (my generation) Gosh those were the days. I really liked this show and it deserved to run longer than it did.

I bought the remastered Cds. I have really enjoyed it. The stories still hold up. And of course Nick is easy on the eye.

When I was little used to see this just because of corvette stingray car .

smashing intro brings back my childhoods best memories of 80ies tv-shows. stingray was the coolest by far!
Special thanks to Tom Blomquist. Producer/ Director of Stingray! Love your show!

This should have made it on the DVD for the intro to every episode. Excellent! Thanks for sharing.

the great time (macgyver, manimal, Hooker, 21 jump street, growing pains, streethawk, the wizzard…………)
We all do.
damn! i have exactly the same memory from this tv show! these were days, man!
Thank you for adding this. I remember this show as a kid.
I used to love this show and the Sting-Ray!
Love this theme song as my dad loves Stingray series. This theme song reminds me of Rocky 2 music in vinyl as it should've been played in:
1. Digimon Adventure 01-02 (Opening Credits).
2. Pokémon Season 1-5 (Opening Credits).
3. X men: Evolution series (Opening Credits).
I love Stingray. Nick Mancuso made this character. I never knew his real name.
No one ever did know his real name. Ray was as close we were allowed to know!
Gross!
Was looking for the puppet Stingray intro and found this. Absolute fucking gold.

Yes, may be better than the original Stereo LP Version from this Theme! :)
If they want to start remaking shows, we should just have a whole season where every 'new' show is a re-do of something Stephen Cannell created
