Don't get a haircut and don't get a real job Tom! Keep doing what you're doing! You're funny and informative. I don't know about calling yourself "Dr. Playground," but you are definitely professor material if you ever wanted to go that route. I definitely would recommend taking a trip to Liberty island, going inside the Statue of Liberty up to the crown, and touring the new museum. Seeing the Statue of Liberty from the Staten Island Ferry is great for locals and people who don't have any money, but having a firsthand experience on Liberty Island at least once is worth doing.
The Museum of the American Indian was a filming location for Ghostbusters 2...mostly out in front of the museum, but the inside was supposed to be where the painting of Vigo the Carpathian was housed. I think they filmed those scenes elsewhere. And of course the Statue of Liberty made a cameo appearance in the film as well.
@@JulianSteve When I was a kid she used to tell me about her and her mom taking the trolley (pre-subway) down to Chelsea to see the Flatiron Building under construction. How crazy is that?
Castle Garden was one of the first buildings in the city to have electric lighting. At least 5 U.S. Presidents visited the site. Around five hundred weddings were performed there. The NY Aquarium was originally designed and subsequently remodeled by the famed architectural firm McKim, Meade, and White.
Thank you for the great tour! Lived in the building @17:27 in 2019 and moved back home to Denmark in January of 2020, haven't been back to the city since. I loved walking around the city, and am really enjoying seeing everything again through your videos!
Fresh video!!! Nice. Contragulations Nicaraguan!!! Perfect Spanish, Perfect English. I say it because I se your video the other day where you spoke English and Spanish. Congrats
Great video per usual. Bikers are universally the same: disregarding traffic signs and riding the wrong way on one-way streets. Happens in my city constantly.
You and your videos are my go to place when I have to visit any place in the city. You are a treasure of cool information and sadly most other UA-cam's use the same sentence from your videos. Hope to see this channel grow. Be safe.
Lucie Pohl is a German actress and stand-up comedian. She is the daughter of theater director and singer Sanda Weigl and the actor and dramatist Klaus Pohl. She is sister of writer Marie Pohl and cousin of actress Anna Thalbach. She is also a relative of Bertolt Brecht. Lucie is the voice actress for the hero Mercy in the video game Overwatch. She featured in the Red Dwarf episode "Twentica" as Harmony de Gauthier.
Just happen to find your video hoping to see the monument of my ancestor, Jesse DeForest (Walloon Settlers). And I did! Thank you so much! Great video 😊
Nice tour Tom, thanks 🙏🏻 also go to Lucy, Great tour as usual buddy. Maybe you should have pointed Lucy towards Nathan’s Hot Dogs in Coney Island 😂. So grateful for your time and efforts from this side of the pond here in England (Brexitland 🇪🇺🤭). 🤗👍🏻😉
the last time I was at Battery park we bought tickets to the Liberty Island ferry at Clinton castle, I guess they don't sell them there any more - there also used to be a great view of the World Trace Center twin towers from there
Man I LOVE NYC and I LOVE history. Therefore I LIVE your channel!! Your head is full of awesome facts and I enjoy following along. I ordered the book you showed in this video and can’t wait to read it. Thanks for the content. Having a good time catching up on all your vids.
Question: If England lost the territory, why do we still call it New York? Should not we call it something other than an English town with new in front?
Landfill. Does a lot of brine work it's way into the harbor during high tides or is the Hudson able to keep it pretty much focused in the Verazaono (spelling?) Narrows area. Those plants all seem pretty lush.
i happily just found tomdnyc tonight and watched several episodes and am looking forward to watching more. very entertaining and informative. my dad's whole side were in new amsterdam from 1624 on and it's hard to find any videos of the monument. the west india co records from that time paint a pretty wild place compared to puritanical salem witch hunt- scarlett letter -pilgrims. I would consider myself a lay expert in North American Dutch colonization and I'm happy to say I've learned several things (had no clue why the Nicks are named so) and more importantly actually gotten a good look at some of the landmarks that other videos dont show(5th generation Californian- haven't spent much time on East coast). Thanks again! more info on The original Walloon families: out of the original 35 walloon families fleeing the inquisition who came on the ship in 1624 only 2 ended up staying. I think the others left and went to suriname. Maiden lane is named after the Vigne girls. The families from hainult /valenciennes were mostly lace makers and the dutch merchants traded alot of textiles and knew the lacemaker families and helped arrange to get them out of Europe. Unfortunately, upwards of 200 were literally burned at the stake for heresy before that. my ancestors sold the land in manhattan by 1700(where the stock exchange is. cannot even imagine what that land is worth now!) and moved to New Jersey where by happenstance of the geography was where Washington kept troops for a big part of the war. the local Dutch families were instrumental in the revolution bc all the old dutch families still had contacts with the dutch traders and bankers and ran weapons and cash thru curacao to arm the troops and pay for the war. Washingtons rock national monument where he would watch the movement of the British troops in NY was on my family's land where Washington stayed for 2 years. Most of the Dutch/Flemish trader families are descendants of Rollo and other original Norman vikings...so I think the contraband/raiding/pillaging/mercantilism vibe was kinda baked into the equation from about 900ad.
Watching your Battery Park video where you explained that Battery Park Immigration Center began in 1855. My family came from Ireland to NY in the 1840s. So where did they disembark?
Hi Tom, That was a nice tour. I've been there and it has the great view of the beginning of the skyscrapers.. I have a poster I got the week of 9/11 that shows the buildings of Lower Manhattan I'll put up sometime when I can find a frame for it. Battery Park City is nice. It has the Skyscraper Museum there which is very interesting but some time I'll get to the Jewish Museum.
Could someone tell me how to get from Battery Park City to pier 57? I’m traveling to BPC soon , but would like to go up to little island and the new rooftop park. Does a ferry take you to little island? Thanks!
UGH TOM! We were in NYC 2 weeks ago and our goal was to run into you and get a picture. And we were AT BATTERY PARK the night before and the morning that you filmed this. Dang it!
Id like to know how many CD's in time square Tom has seen to be blank. Many dudes trying go hustle are trying to promote and build their music from the streets up. Its counter intuitive to scam people with blank CD's.
I genuinely feel sorry for everyone who doesn’t know Tom and his videos.
These honestly are pure GOLD!!!
"Oh look at that Dr. Playground that's my nickname...sorry I take that back that's a creepy nickname to have" 🤣🤣🤣
great historical tour Tom and Lucie! I remember Battery Park teeming with people; nice to see it serene and unhurried.
Tom owes Lucie a hotdog lunch for that great camera work.
How does a 30 minute video get a thumbs down after 5 minutes? Great video mr playground 🤣. Big thumbs up from Manchester, England.
Tom has haters and they could stay mad too🤷🏾♂️💯
Lucie is back, true love,,,,,,,

Lucie did an excellent job! Great videos as always. Very entertaining and informative. :)
I’m visiting New York in November so being able to understand the history behind everything will add a whole new level to the experience! Subscribed!
Welcome to the crew Jordan👋🏾‼️
Stayed at the Wagner Hotel in Battery Park in 2019. Hotel is in an Excellent location and wonderfully staffed!
Have you taken the ferry and shown off the Statue of Liberty? Have you toured Ellis Island, yet? If not, please consider it.
Just love watching your tours. My favorite place is NYC. Thank you for your work
Tom's shorts is the battery to my soul

Yes! Janosz was one of the best parts of the movie!
I love Ghostbusters..the first time I really noticed Manhatten was while watching Ghostbusters as a kid..they did a great job showing the city.
I had my first job there at the old custom house in 1968 while attending Hunter College ; thanks for such a great tour and memories
My grandmother was born in a house on E. 68th in 1892 where Hunter College is now located.

The best Tom!!! Thank you
OMG! Your tours are so relaxing, man. Thanks for your generous contribution. That Sag Harbor tour and the San Juan one as well were da BOMB. 💪🏆💪
I was about to comment, “Cool shoes,” then Lucie called them out as being new!!!! Holy crud!! O yeah Battery Park is cool too!
Tom plus Lucie ❤️
I like lucie! She’s funny! Keep her around. :)
You really are the best of the YT New York videographers by far. Enjoyed the history and seeing the park.
I really enjoyed this video. I've been waiting on it for quite some time as I have been here a few times. Keep up the fantastic work, Tom.
Very good Camera work. Bravo Lucie
There are so many reasons why I love your videos, it’s ridiculous!
I love when Tom tells dark stories of history ❤️🤌🏼
I get excited when a Tom Delgado video drops😎

I learned a lot, thanks Tom!
Lucy is great.
Dr. Playground! Wait a minute- Scratch that. That's NOT my nickname. 😂🤣🥶
I visited the N.Y. aquarium with my brother and uncle in 1939 when I was2 years old.
Wow! My mom was born in 39! In Yonkers NY though.
That's awesome!

The globe statue that was in the World Trade Center was scarred, but it was moved to Battery Park.

yeah... also why america still use ENGLISH language ??!
Two Swedish celebrities in the same video 🇸🇪 👍✨🤩 Really enjoy seeing and learning so much of NYC!
The Coast Guard’s history actually goes back to 1790 and after 9/11 they were transferred to the Department of Homeland Security
I never knew that. Kind of wish they were still on Governors Island.
Those shoes are pretty sweet
