DHL A300-600F BIRDSTRIKE & FLAMES From The Engine On Take-off, At Amsterdam Schiphol Airport

- This Airbus A300B4-600/F from DHL suffered a bird strike on take-off at Amsterdam Schiphol airport heading for the DHL Cargo hub of Leipzig Halle airport.
The Pilots had contact with the tower but resumed the flight toward Leipzig and landed safely. Luckily DHL has their maintenance base at Leipzig Halle. But man! I got the shock of my live when I saw flames coming from the left engine!
Amsterdam Schiphol airport has units driving around the airport to keep the birds away from the airfield day and night. The so called “Kievit-units”, as seen here in the video. Schiphol has special radars to detect birds as they fly near the airfield, every “Kievit car” is equipped with this. They use various deterrent techniques for this. Despite the measures taken, birdstrikes do occasionally occur.

Wow, I am overwhelmed by all the comments, views and likes.
I've had contact with a pilot from DHL that asked these pilots who had the birdstrike, they had no damages and no fluctuations of engine parameters.
And indeed another bird hit the right nose cowl.
Thank you SO much for all your feedback and positve comments!
I like the bit at the end to show that they made it to the destination safe 👍
yey
Did you see that the right hand engine also gets a bird strike a the 12 o'clock position of the engine cowling?
It was a good catch!
Amazing video. And thanks for slowing it down to see the bird actually going into the engine. I am wondering if the pilots even KNEW they had a bird strike if their systems weren't affected?
1:30 - Bird: I'm hovering in position. Ready for next departure...
Wtf...
@@WHYWOULDILACK legend says, that bird hovered long enough to be on the other side of the earth.
Looked like a Hawk or Falcon waiting to eat the taisty fan grilled poultry lying on the tarmac then a guy in a shiny box shows up and throws his meal in a bin :D
Probably a Kestrel and it would be looking for rodents in the grass instead of carrion
Right. I was thinking the same thing. The bird was just stationary in the air.
No panicking noted from onboard packages.
They were not same day point to point hotshot delivery priority.
Them engines are tough. Dude just kept flying and landed like a boss. 👏
Yeah he did. Not sure how far the destination airport was, but if he wanted to return to original airport like a ole b¡tch, I'd've been cool with that, too!😄
It depends, if the engine is damaged which causes problems for the aircraft to remain airborne, pilots will decide on emergency landing. If not and there are no problems, just continue to your destination.
Example of bird strike which resulted of engine damage and/or both engine lost is: US Airways Flight 1549
@@ElAye 600km
He BOSSED UP ✊
The engine barely hiccupped. The pilots may not have even noticed.
Hi! Would it be ok if I used this video in a news segment I’m preparing. With full credit to you, of course.
Sure, go for it
I need to hear that from the video owner to be sure. Thanks!
@@MentourPilot Lmaoo I know I know 😂
It would be perfect if the owner allows you to analyse the video
Yeah sure! :)
A bird nearly got sucked into the the other engine about the same time!
it seems it got hit
@@Valkenier11 No, just after the bird was sucked into the left engine anotherone hit the right engine too. You can see it tumbling down
@@MegaPeers indeed there is a bird sucked into the engine and another bird bounced of the other engine. In slomotion you can see it
Sully flashbacks
Well spotted! That could have easily become a dual bird strike on takeoff.. close!
1:29 That bird watching from the above: What happened to Klaus?!
It's not a real bird
@@massik1993 What do you mean?
@@arefkr it's a robot hawk bird they use to scare away other birds!
@@tofg26 interesting. I didn’t know that. Thank you
@@tofg26 It bloody aint then.
Nice catch. Good they got there home and dry
Two birds almost simultaneously ingested into not only the left engine but the right one is crazy especially when dealing with birds that are clearly not flocking! That bird on the right bounces off the cowling of the right engine and lands on the runway to be picked up by the guys at the end of the video is nothing short of amazing!
“I said well done, not sacrificed!”
Idk if to laugh at this since people could've lost their lives but you nearly got me there mate🤣😅😬
1:30 that bird is having fun nearly flying backwards
Thats funny... if you see 0:28 it is just there too.
That’s a Kestrel! A bird of prey that hovers while looking for mice and other creatures to hunt.
@@sh1904 that's cool.. thx mate.
0:35 whats this on the left?
matrix error 😂
Very rare capture ! I'm glad that the flight was safe
@ that’s crazy
Yup ua-cam.com/video/4hf3ft_9JpQ/v-deo.html
@British Airways Boeing 747-436 yes it is alright. At this kind of terms, the plane continue his departure into its destination. 1 bird is nothing, its just like a liquid of blood and small chunks of meat going out of the exhaust. Compressor blades can take a hit but not more than 5 birds in the same compressor blade that chopped off the bird. That's really gonna screw up the engine. Watch the movie sully, it is based on true life events (bird flock strike).
Guy in the yellow truck " I'll pickup lunch"
Stunning catch, a big like mate. Best wishes for 2021
No jet engine or cowling was harmed during the making of this flight.
a bird, however...
Garland Ward..... two birds. Engine #1 ate one bird, while another bird bounced off the cowling of engine #2 at the same time!
Hahaha nice caption bro.
Unless I am misinformed, that engine is dead... All the pilots I know have always told me, one bird in an engine means the engine is out of order forever...
lol...but the bird!! In 2 pieces!!
Awesome catch! Would you be okay with me featuring this in my series Weekly Dose of Aviation? Of course you will be credited both in the video and in the description. Thanks!
Hi! Sure if you credit me you can use it😁👍🏻
Bro why tf are you everywhere
Wow, crazy thing to capture on video. Really cool to see, glad they completed the flight safely!
Watch it back at 0.25 playback speed. RIP to the bird that hit the right nose cowl. Great capture!
Glad I ain't the only one to notice that....
i caught it at full speed. it missed ingestion by mere inches itself. that had to leave a dent in the cowl, that was a heck of a hit!
@@severnia I’ve seen many bird strikes on the nose inlet but rarely do they dent...they stink!
@@Sterlingjob good deal. That was a big bird, and a hard hit. Other than someone having to pick the tenderized carcass up off the tarmac, doesnt seem like there was anything serious with this incident.
The bird he picked up was the one from the nose cowl, doubt there would be much left of the one that was ingested through the engine.
"I'm starting the APU"

What an insane catch! I am glad that the plane landed safely at it`s destination
Damn they almost had a double birdstrike that other one smacked its noggin off of the engine cowling
yea tough cowling didnt seem to take damage. i didnt think it would be so audible too
After seeing it's partner turned to spam it suicide attacked the plane, noggin first.
Every second counts!!! Salute! Former DHL Supervisor here!!.👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
You do all that plane spotting to catch moments like this! 😎
It looked like the deceased bird's partner was hovering above the carcass just before the safety officer picked it up.
Or it had its roast dinner stolen.
That is a common practice of falcon or Hawks sometimes the kestrel will do that before pouncing on prey.
“So what do you do?”
“I pick up birds from the tarmac”

@@LPKelly380 lmao
Tanked it like an absolute gigachad. 💪
Always impressive to see 😮 At first I thought it was a compressor surge... Glad this bird ingestion ended well 👍
Spectacular catch Sander!
Woww fantastic catch, we never know when unique shot will be taken when spotting, that was your day. 👍✅
Wow! Dit maak je niet vaak mee!
"Bird strikes"
Passenger plane : "ladies and gentlemen we're having emergency situation that requires us to return back to the airport"
Cargo plane : "nothing to worried about, continue flying"
God engine full performer
Amazing Footage mate big like from 🇩🇴 and happy new year 🎉
@GARY Estrella wey !!
that bird floating at 0:30 just watched his friend get sucked into the engine
".... and this is Jackass" *PUFF*
Maybe a crow waiting for it's meal.
@@sd906238 If it's hovering then it is probably a Kestrel. I don't believe crows can hover..
Wow! Great capture! And dinner for two! Btw, Edmonton airport has a drone that flies and looks like a bird of prey to chase off birds! Drones helping at airports...
I believe we have a bird glitching at 29 seconds.🤣😂🤣😂🤣
It looked like the bird’s partner (or parent) , hovering above to see what happened. Excellent capture!
Or maybe looking for easy pickings
Don’t be silly.😂 It’s a kestrel that was hovering over the grass (left of the runway) looking for mice etc. The depth of field makes it look like the kestrel is hovering above but it is much much closer to the guy shooting the video and no where near the incident area.
That happened when I was on a flight from Kona to Honolulu, bird strike about 20 seconds after takeoff, a loud bang then the smell of burnt meat/feathers through out the plane. We circled for about 15 minutes (I guess to maybe dump fuel) then landed and we’re met by emergency vehicles with guys in full fire protection suits.
Thank you for posting/sharing, that hawk hovering was gonna scaveng that carcass!
Plane : Oops not my fault
Bird : ...
Thank God the flight went off smoothly
Great footage!!! I'm gobsmacked that the flight carried on.
Nice video!!
Wow great catch - those A300s are getting on a bit now! Glad the aircraft and crew were fine.

Wow, first time i see this a Schiphol. You bloody lucky boy!!!
I was on flight radar 24 the other day, and ive litterly seen the plane taxi to the runway... this gave me chills..
Ups! "Lucky" catch! glad they made they were able to continue the flight
That's one hell of a quick alignment on the runway!
Wow incredible footage! Glad that the incident did not result in serious consequences.
That’s the reason we never receive our packages 😂😂
Great shot!
Beautiful plane, this design is perfect imo
Wow, great filmed - I can see the engine moving after the strike...
Definitely a lucky catch. Well done filming
Same happened to the plane I was on… we landed back safely❤
great video !
Rest in Peace for the dead brother :(
Lol ! he hitted two birds ! One on the left through the turbine and the other one with the turbine casing :D .
1:02 at .25 speed is amazing!
Good video, keep them coming,
Great capture.
Held together pretty well.
I am surprised no damage occured to the engine. Makes Vinces Slam Chop look like a toy.
Good job on recording mate! Usually most people stop paying attention in camera's monitor in those kinds of situation.
This is why our parents said never to stick your fingers into fans.
I grabed fan from the senter so it was not painful and the motor is not powerful so it just stpped when i was 7
Wow, scary stuff. Thanks for sharing.
Nice shot 👌
You got one more follower.
Great capture. Never seen that before. Pilots must have seen on board power as okay to continue the flight.
wahou , great pic..✈👍
Wow, rare capture! From around 1:00 and 1:05 the movement of the engine is noticeable. Am glad that they reached destination safely.
Yeah that engine shook a bit on impact! Impressive that it withstood that force and obviously was still in a shape good enough to continue with entire the flight!!
One bird was arrested and charged with trespassing, the other fled the scene

Looks good on them
engines like ahhhh lunch! ahhhh now i got heart buuuurn
Why don’t they fit conical deflectors in front of the engine intakes? Would they interfere too much with air flow?
The bird was well done!
1:31 that birb is flying in its place lmao
Have you seen the other engine? There was another bird, and it hit the engine, but did not flew into the engine!
yes, crazy 5 centimeters lower and it would have been a double bird strike at 00:35
I suspect that's the dead bird they went to pick up from the runway. The other one would probably be minced meat I guess
@@stijnhs yeah, I think so too.

noice, historical moment captured on film
Anyone else notice that magical bird literally *HOVERING* in mid air for the entire video?!?!
LOL i think it's a hawk and they do that often while Hunting seeking for the prey
should be an artificial bird, birds can't do it
@@MrSonance The other dude is right. It is a species of hawk. I've seen them in my country as well in the fields in the countryside. They will hover for a second or two just before they dive into their prey.
Still, this hawk must think he is a helicopter or something.

Hi guys! I'd like to ask if the slight roll to the left at 0:38 was caused by the engine stall. Thanks!
