This is the second lesson in a short 3 part series dedicated to Tapping for Bass Guitar.
The series is broken into three parts of linear tapping, piano style tapping and contrapuntal style.
This lesson deals with tapping in a more pianistic style similar to Stu Hamm and Victor Wooten. Involves hammering with the tapping hand onto the strings without the need for an accompanying hand in the lower register.
The exercises work to build the strength and control in both hands so that you can play one handed. The lines involve outling arpeggios, scales and block chords. Finally I split chords into a low bass note and chord tones in the upper register then create a moving bassline below them. This helps to move smoothly into the next lesson on contrapuntal tapping.

Definitely one of the best instructional bass videos I've ever seen, I'm glad to get some clarity on tapping, but I feel like someone just spoiled Santa for me lol

I just started playing the bass, and I'm so glad I found you! I can't afford lessons so having your videos is really a lifesaver! Thanks for all the great videos. You've really been helping me out a lot!

I think this video is especially good, the reason is: you give many hints about how to hit the notes (angle of the hand, string action, muscles involved...). Most tapping tutorials just throw a bunch of stuff to learn (which are usually good riffs worthy learning) but with no hints about technique.

Awesome lessons! The only thing that would make them better is if you were playing a Lakland! Plus, it wouldn't be as darn heavy as that Fender MM, especially a Lakland USA.
What's your dream bass if you were to get rid of the "Teal Deal" Ibanez and the Fender MM and had to choose a lifetime instrument?
    Thanks for the great lessons!

Thanks a lot. In terms of basses, I've gone through quite a few and always have issues with something. I've had the Ibanez the longest (1992) out of the two. Only my Westone Thunder Jet (first bass) has lasted longer but that's in a complete mess. The Fender is great but too much of a battleship for me to really use all the time although it's my main gigging bass mainly because of the great all round tone. I like having 24 frets so I use the Ibanez for all the noodly stuff. I had a Stingray 5 for quite a while but I sold it eventually. Something about it didn't fit right. I'd love to try out a Lakland. I'd also love a Warwick. I was messing around on Geoff Chalmers' Sadowsky recently and loved that. If I had the cash, I'd probably try out a Fodera. A lot of boutique basses just cost too much to buy as an experiment. One of my students has a Sandberg. I was really impressed by that. There are too many for me to name really. I'm so picky that I'd probably be frustrated with any bass. Overall, I think all pro bass players should have at least one Jazz and one Precision. That covers the foundation in terms of tone.
