The "Short and Sassy" cut with hair conditioner to match. For longer hair there was the "Long and Silky" conditioner. Think they called it cream rinse back then.

Whenever I would ask her, my Mother would speak in such a revelatory manner about the 1970s having been the GREATEST era of her life. She expressed that the seventies were her happiest years because life was good, simple, joyous, and the cost of living was low. Life was therefore conducive to a peaceful, calm, and refreshing life of very little stress. My Mother died earlier this year. I am so profoundly grateful that she got to experience a decade that had for the rest of her life, meant so much to her!

I was in high school and college in the seventies. Everyone had Pot O Gloss lip gloss. Everyone had a Bonne Bell Lip Smacker. Bonne Bell also had the best gel blush. Love Cosmetics and Yardley were the rage. Hair care involved these shampoos: Protein 21, Milk Plus 6, Flex, Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific, Brightside, and eventually Herbal Essence. That took off and dominated. Balsam was a key hair ingredient and there were many balsam conditioners. Then Vidal Sassoon came along at the end of the decade with its chocolate colored bottles and almond scent Everyone had the Cover Girl Clean foundation. Revlon Blush On was another favorite. We all loved the Coty compacts of solid scents. There were flowers, Woods, grasses, etc. Everyone had the Jergens cherry scented lotion. You washed your face with Noxzema or the clear amber Neutrogena soaps. Bonne Bell had Ten O Six lotion we used as astringent. Musk Oil was also a popular scent.

Dippity Dew was a setting lotion for wet sets, not for perms. My mom used it and I can still remember the scent. One reason Skin So Soft was really popular is because it naturally repelled mosquitos. Great video. Mousse wasn't used until the 1980's. In the 70's, they used a "setting lotion" like V05 or Dippidy Doo. I remember when mousse became a thing, and I was already in middle school, so at least 1983.

Thank you Laura for a great video! I’m a seventy year old retired nurse and I remember using Yardley slickers and Max Factor’s lipsticks in Mango Meringue and Pinkberry Meringue. The Max Factor lipsticks were highly frosted and opaque with just a hint of color. I remember my dad telling me that it looked like I had Crisco all over my mouth!Lol. Coty Airspun loose powder was all I wore on my face, to this day I don’t like the heavy feel of liquid foundation. But I would use Cover Girl Clean Girl liquid makeup which had Noxzema ingredients in it and it smelled like Noxzema also for concealer whenever I needed to cover a blemish. Also Coty perfumes in Laimont, Emeraude and L’Origon perfumes were very popular. Faberge had some strong, woodsy fragrances, one that I remember wearing was Tigress. We also work Musk oil til I found our it came from a shark glands. Yardley of London had many light fragrances Eau de London was my favorite in 60’s and 70’s. Also don’t forget good old Jean Nate! Everyone used it back in the day. I had a huge 32 ounce bottle on top of my dresser throughout the early seventies. I’ve been a makeup and skincare fanatic since I was a teen and still am and I am now seventy! Thank you so much fipor some precious memories, dear Laura, so glad I subscribed to your channel!🥰

Another fabulous video. I was surprised Clairol Herbal Essence shampoo was overlooked - it was so popular and revolutionary - and the inclusion of Dippity Do, which I think of as a mid to late 60s pre blow hair dryer and hot roller trends. Another trend of the 70s was Musk as a fragrance component and ‘natural’ beauty products like henna. Thank you for including Avon! My mom always wore Charlie perfume. She used Revlon lipstick in the colour 585 Persian Melon. Something else, not really related to makeup, is many elementary school girls and teenagers in the lower mainland of BC carried small wet combs in their back right pocket.

The '70s were a great era that I am glad to have lived through. You totally left out the shag haircut, which was huge in the early-to-mid '70's! It was a true shag, not like today's wimpy versions that hardly have any layers. I had the shag and then later the Farrah hairstyle. I also was often told I looked like Cher, so I played that up too. Roses, Roses was my favorite perfume from them, but I know many people think it’s way too strong. I would watch mom getting ready for work, and putting on her makeup and false lashes. She was so glamorous in my mind!
Watching Wonder Woman and the Bionic Woman on tv was a weekly ritual for me, the hair was so fluffy and perfectly curled or straight and natural.
One of my favorite things from back then I would always get in my stocking for Christmas: a multi-pack of scented lipgloss in a metal container with a sliding top to open. The company Tinte Cosmetics have brought them back, and they are still wonderful.
