Mark Thomas Landscaper AND Builder! 😊 That is an impressive looking trimmer, Mark. Battery powered Hedge Trimmers are THE way to go. I have never owned a gas model, or had the need to. I currently use a 22” older 18 Volt Makita double-sided hedge trimmer, and it meets my needs, for the limited amount of trimming that I need to do. Sometimes I think I would like to have a longer bar, but this 34” might be too big, as my Azaleas and boxwoods are a bit close to the House ( bought our house from the Original owners, who got a lot of stuff wrong! ) How was the runtime with the 2.5 Ah battery? I personally would not run a bigger one on that trimmer. Like You said, these hedge trimmers surprisingly do not require a lot of ‘juice.’ How were the safety interlocks to use? I get why some are needed on the battery operated tools, but it seems a little ridiculous? My Makita has twin interlocks, and I do NOT like them. I had mentioned to You before, I think, how our 58 Volt Echo string trimmer ( First Gen ) trigger and interlock are not ergonomic. The trigger is way too stiff, and it is not a pleasure to use. It does run well. I usually try to trim our Azaleas right after they have bloomed and do the other shrubs at the same time. I usually dont do any additional trimming, unless necessary. I may ‘touch up’ here and there, in answer to your question. Good stuff Mark! BIG Thumbs up. Stay safe and well! 👍💪✌🇺🇸😊
Thank, George! I thought the safety feature was going to be frustrating, but I'm definitely getting use to it and can understand why it's needed. Since the cutting swath is so long, I can see how it could accidentally get started by accident when picking it up or transporting it. I haven't tried the Makita version, but like to check out their display every year at the Equip Expo. Have a great day! Mark
Not bad but I own the m18 double sided trimmer and have the extension. It’s tip heavy with extension but no need for ladders, makes cutter safer on slopes.
I'm liking the single sided, don't own one. They don't seem to be loved amongst lawncare experts. I'm just a homeowner trying to shape my bushes. The lightweight, the bevling, the scoop, now the battery, I like it all. My double sided keeps jamming and I do maintain it. This is way more expensive than my double sided. But I'm considering it.
What's interesting is that I never thougth I'd get excited over the single sided trimmer, but with the 34" length and high performance I experienced, I have to say I'm hooked.
How many times a year should a homeowner trim their bushes and shrubs? Have you ever tried a single sided hedge trimmer?

That's a great setup as well. I'm definitely a fan of battery powered in this category of outdoor power equipment.
