  • We've all ticked the I Accept button as we install our games without reading the dreaded EULA... but now UbiSoft is flexing that EULA and taking away a game bought and paid for by millions of users world wide.
Surely this can't happen to simmers right? WRONG! IT CAN happen because it already HAS!
In this episode, the Three Grumpy Simmers return with blood boiling to discuss what the recent actions of UbiSoft mean to us as a wider gaming community and the actions of one developer to stand up to this injustice.
Head to www.stopkillinggames.com/ to learn more about what you can do to help get a resolution to the question that many of us have idly wondered but never had an answer to.

Sérgio has been a flight simulation enthusiast for nearly 20 years. His passion with helicopters developed during MSFS 2000 when he discovered the complexity of these aircraft and the challenge it was to control them. Since then he has been primarily a helicopter flight simmer, trying his best not to crash and kill all his virtual passengers. Sérgio is HeliSimmer.com's editor and writer.

Drew "Bel Geode" Bolton has been a flight simulation enthusiast since 1986 and has been an active member of the community since 2005. A former virtual airline CEO, Bel has embraced many aspects of flight simulation, and understands how to connect with the community at large, through his UA-cam channel, and various collaborations with fellow simmers. Bel Geode can be found often in FSX in his F-14 Tomcat "Valkyrie", in X-Plane in one of his many helicopters, or in DCS World in anything he can get his hands on, to make targets go "Boomflowah"!

That's true, now that Tristan's in the US, it might be easier to find a time to film that is inconvenient for all 3, to help with the grumpiness. ;)

Also, we all got used (in a way) to buying products for FSX that would work properly for many years, because the simulator didn't change. When we buy add-ons for xplane 12, MSFS or DCS, there's an implied agreement that they'll be supported as the relevant simulator evolves for a few years. There was a DCS third party developer that fell out with ED recently, allegedly (at least partly) because ED wanted to own the IP for their addons. And that this was influenced by what happened to the Hawk in DCS (gone but not forgotten).

Should also say that several companies (including A2A, Orbx, ED and Simcoders on xplane) go above and beyond imho. It's crazy how much DCS has improved since it was first released and that the early addons such as the A10A are still being supported, and in some cases improved. The Black Shark is on its 3rd iteration but the upgrades are cheap. Orbx regions generally get supported over several simulator versions. And A2A and Simcoders both improve their products on an ongoing basis. I'm sure there's other developers that I could have included here as well.

Thanks chaps, interesting discussion. Early Access games on Steam are another thing. Can we sue companies who don't deliver on the suggested product?

That is a good question. And apparently timely given the state of Helldivers 2 right now

I was a very early The Crew beta tester, an early customer, and now a very unhappy customer that has no access to "their" (and not mine) 60€ game.
The crew 1 was a (failed) attempt to reignite "the Test Drive Unlimited spirit", so NO GUNS :D Cars, more cars and ONLY cars. Oh btw, a "higher judgment" has been delivered like yesterday, that say "you pay for a use of the licence" you own nothing, officially...

Interesting. Do you have a link to the ruling?

@@Novawing24 Ubisoft lawyer reaffirmed that I quote what I read "Du point de vue juridique, les joueurs étant considérés comme de simples utilisateurs dépourvus de tout droit de propriété sur le jeu lui-même, il leur est impossible de contester la décision d’Ubisoft de révoquer l’accès aux serveurs du jeu The Crew" (20 minutes). AFAIK, not an opened ruling, probably a close case study between judge and lawyers only... There is an european movement thzt could try to "change the law", but we'll have to observe...
