These guys started out doing heavy Texas blues rock then Billy got inspired by synthpop bands like Depeche Mode, leading him to go New Wave with this album. One of the few ‘70s acts to reach a whole new level of success with the rise of MTV in the ‘80s.

Hey Shon! I'm an older guy now, but I remember when ZZ Top first came out. Man, we didn't know anything about this band or where in the hell they even came for, but we all agreed that these guys were the epitome of COOL! They've been that way ever since. Just COOL!
ZZ Top was part of the foundation of early MTV. Good music, Fun videos.
I just love those little mini-movies they used to create. The car, the women, the music- all classic clips.

I was 14 years old and used to watch this fascinating video, the amazing music, the beauty and sensuality of the girls, I always wanted to be like the one in the little black dress! Oh boy, what a great era, fun, senseless, daring, mischievous, sassy... that's how the 80s were. Thank God for having lived them to the fullest. Great reaction, I loved it! ❤

Saw them 4 times first time 1975. The 76 world tour frothworth. They had a long horn steer and a buzzard and a big white bull and a lizard on stage while they were playing. Half of the album fandango is live. And I saw them with the rolling stones Dallas cotton bowl. 1981.

You know, someone mentions ZZTop and I think "Oh, ZZTop, they're OK.", but then I play one of their songs again like this and I suddenly remember that it's completely impossible to sit still while listening to them. My foot's tapping, my head's bobbing, and it's requiring willpower not to start air-drumming. LOL
ZZ Top was here in Baltimore, my pops is actually friends with Billy Gibbons, uncle was a roadie for them in the 70s and 80s…Mr.Gibbons is THE COOLEST MFer ever…we eat crabs and smoke a ton of pot whenever he’s in town and has the time..have got to hang with him a few times, he signed my Gibson Explorer and did his own pin striping job on it for me…took him like 2 minutes

ZZ Top lifts a LOT from Depression-era Blues. It's arguably appropriation, but they at least put a unique spin on it. Throw a fuzz pedal and a 4/4 beat behind a Leadbelly track, and you basically have ZZ Top.
