    Hi, Scott!
    Your roundels look great!
    I think at one point you mentioned something about your back... yeah, with a 5 ft chord, bending over so many times while putting down trim tape was a literal pain! But the final appearance is worth it! The "1-3-5" diameter for the three rings is proper according to many reference photos.
    Enjoy your break and I look forward to the next installment!

    The wing undersurfaces in the tent are looking very convincing,and the hue of the upper surfaces is good too. I would love to come to assist, but I’m 84 and walking with crutches, which rules me out.

    G'day Scott,
    Yay Team !
    Excellent work..., you're doing a beautiful job...
    Did you see that Dynodon64 took his Corsair up for nearly an Hour, landing fairly close to Sundown...?
    He took a GoPro on the Fin Leading Edge along for the
    Maiden Flight...
    Well worth watching...(!).
    Now, of course, he's deep into rectifying the things which going for a fly have revealed need some tuning and adjustment.
    Such is life,
    Have a good one...
    Stay safe.
    ;-p
    Ciao !

    Very nice. Been watching the videos for a bit. I bought a DR-1 kit from Robert and know the issues you speak of. But have to say, watching your videos have been very helpful. Been sitting on it for a few months and should be starting the rudder shortly. Trying to figure out the bending of the tubing.

      @scottmatthews5280  4 місяці тому

      I wish someone had a you tube for me to watch on these AA aircraft. Hope some of it helps. Message me on FB if you think I can help. Tube bending, screw everything, including the jig down, risk mucking up the first one, just be able to replicate it.

    Love it! It turned out great, just as we have come to expect from you. The tape seemed to have decided to stick on after all. Was it the cold conditions that made it reluctant to stick earlier?

    Amazing project. Love your craftsmanship. I never considered finishing an airplane with a roller. Your finish has a great vintage appearance. Any idea why the blue on your roundels didn't lay down like your other colors? My last project was finished in a polyurethane and it's too shiny for a vintage airplane.

    • @scottmatthews5280
      @scottmatthews5280  4 місяці тому

      Blue is the newest finish, it takes a good day or two but the moisture evaporates out and it has pulled down nicely thanks.

    Your exterior house paints are formulated to stay a bit flexible so they can take the expansion and contraction caused by exposure to variations in sunlight, so it will never be totally hard and scrubbable like interior paints. Then again, bird shit won't beat it. Some manufacturers claim ten years' worth of durability on wooden surfaces.

    The lines activating the ailerons have cranks to raise the aileron, but no way to lower it. Is there another crank to be fitted to each aileron?

    • @scottmatthews5280
      @scottmatthews5280  3 місяці тому

      Pushrod is fitted from top to bottom aileron forming a closed loop system.

    I thought that the unpainted linen was a cream colour, rather than white. Is white the correct colour? I wasn’t there at the time, so I have to go by guesswork.

    • @scottmatthews5280
      @scottmatthews5280  4 місяці тому

    My experience with epoxy glue (blessed be the epoxy) you don't need fastenings with the glue!! I'm building a boat out of Paulonia and glue. No fastenings thus far. Just wood and glue. Vast savings in weight and cost.
