I will say this. I’ve been playing a Monette Prana mouthpiece forever a very long time. I recently switched to a new Resonance Prana version of that mouthpiece that a friend of mine gave me. It’s an astonishing difference. The ease of play, the color of the sound and broadness of the sound is a huge improvement.

now I saw this video I got a bit worried about the Weight... I ordered a mouthpiece 2 weeks ago but didn't choose the heaviest one but the middle weight. why is this an option for you? does it also support something else when your mouthpiece is lighter?

      Hi Emiel,
Our standard weight Resonance mouthpiece is what we almost always recommend for an 'every day' mouthpiece to be used for all-around playing. We recommend the lightweight 'LT' mouthpiece for lead sizes, and the XLT for extreme lead playing (players that regularly play up to and above double C.)
I think when you say you selected the middle weight that you selected the LT, is that correct? The advantages of a little more mass to the mouthpiece are increased richness in the sound and greater stability in feel. A lighter mouthpiece will play with a brighter sound and will feel a little more free in the extreme upper register. Obviously those are desirable qualities in a lead mouthpiece.
Because all Monette mouthpieces are designed to play with consistent pitch center through the entire range of the instrument and at all dynamic levels, there is no need to 'muscle around' the pitch. The job of having to fight the pitch on an out-of-tune mouthpiece (which most players do subconsciously through increased tension in the body) is easier on a mouthpieces that is lightweight, or a smaller in size, or that has a smaller throat and tighter backbore. Because fighting the pitch on a Monette mouthpiece is unnecessary, we can make mouthpieces that play more open and have more mass to them, which improves the sound and feel. And very often a player can comfortably move to a larger size than they have used previously and they will maintain - and often improve! - their range and flexibility.
So I don't know whether you ordered a mouthpiece for all-around playing or specifically for lead playing, but you may want to consider trying the standard-weight mouthpiece rather than the lightweight. Unless it is a lead mouthpiece, I think you will like the sound and feel of the standard-weight more. Please email me at bj@monette.net if you would like to make a change to your order. And thanks for watching our videos!

MonetteCorporation wow, thanks for the response in first place! actually it is exactly what I thought, how more weight makes tone richer and, for me at least, more stable. I am indeed a lead player but a developping one. I've never been required to play high C's (luckily, because I can't yet), but it's the register I'm aiming for, what I'm practicing myself for. So yeah, then I do think indeed not having the lightest mouthpiece is actually a good choice. As far as I indeed have understood was that upgrading to a monette mouthpiece will already increase tone and reach especially in the upper register, so I'm truly looking forward for my mouthpiece to arrive. Your personal attention to customers is great, thanks for all the help you offered me!
