The Mini Cooper John Cooper Works Is a Hot Hatch That Just Wants To Squeal Tires

  • This was my first experience with a Mini Cooper, and just like you'd expect, it was a lot of fun. While I could do without some of the retro quirks, and the interior quality wasn't the best, the engine, transmission, handling, and exhaust note all combine to make the 2021 Mini Cooper John Cooper Works 2-Door Hardtop quite the driver's car. Is it worth over $40,000 though? That's up to you.

    Thanks ,you got a few facts wrong and clearly don’t get the mini thing , however just look at the smile on your face when you drive it , that’s the mini thing .

    Always makes me wonder why reviewers make an issue out of the lack of boot/trunk space and rear passenger space? It's a MINI, a small BMW aimed at trendy couples with a small kid/s or for adults who's kids have flown the nest or a single person, if one has a large family then buy an SUV. It's the quirkiness of the MINI and the instruments that attract buyers me included, an ideal car for today's driving conditions in the U.K. Regarding the switches, mine has as yours but also has a button for front heated screen and a toggle switch that parks the car for you, forget what it's called but I've never used it. Overall it is a fun to drive car, more than quick enough and has a good build quality. By the way the JCW name goes way back to the original mini when they were successfully used in racing. Good review, my only disappointment with the car is the lack of electric memory seats and would like another 30 to 40 horses.

      I agree with lack of HP since the clubman and countryman JCW has over 300HP!

    It seemed from the beginning that you were not really into the whole idea of the "Mini experience", and just started the review off with loads of little nick picking complaints about things mini lovers want and would never want changed. It was obvious you loved your VW. How you don't understand the circle motif is a prime example and complaints about lack of back seat space or storage available in the "boot". You did not even mention, rev matching while in sport mode, which is just a fantastic feature, and only haven taken it out for a drive around the block your favorite feature was the ability to sequel the tires and you are giving a car review on a car known for its handling ability??? I believe your opinions would have changed drastically if you would have taken it out on the highway along with some tight twisty mountain roads. You did mention mountain roads but mentioned it would have been nice, you had a whole week with the car and no mountain roads??? Well I guess it was fun going to the grocery store and bank with it. The material choices in my opinion are solid and it does feel and look upscale to me, not luxury, it is not supposed to be soft and luxurious. Everything is tightly matched and aligned. The design scheme, the circles, are handled nicely and the toggle switches are a very unique feature giving it a more business feel in terms of performance. The ride is firm ride as are the seats. The seats are nicely blustered and really lock you in when the speed goes up and the road gets twisty. Both the firmness in both areas helps keep the focus on throwing the car into turns and accelerating out of them. Owning one I do have some complaints, and my biggest is no Android accommodations. The digital dash screen is very easy to read and has tons of important information that you can quickly see without having to fumble around and change screen information. One of the bits of info that is so important is being able to see what the road's posted speed limit is that you are going down. This is especially important since you have a tendency to nail the accelerator the entire time you are behind the wheel and having this right there in front of your vision helps keep those speeding tickets away. I never use the touch screen. First I don't want finger print smudges all over it nor do I want to have to bend over and try to touch a small icon to input a command while I am going down the road, particularly do to the stiff suspension. The controls and large knob right below the shifter knob is well thought out and what I use all the time. In the end it was nice to watch a review on a mini JCW even if it wasn't the best review I have watched.

    I did bought out 2023 mini cooper
    my personal vehicle 2021 Nissan Rogue
    due to the electrical issue kept stalling out RPM stuck below 500
    I tried investigating what caused the issue several electrical replace wires had been burnt and engine had severe oil leak due low oil pressure head gasket replaced
    I driven no oil in engines cause I didn’t notice
    No warning lights on
    Due to parts back order that car been sat in garage for over 1 years now 20,900 miles
    3 months ago
    the parts been pushed back another four month
    Due to supply chain issues
    It drivable it just I had to fill up the oil every morning very inconvenient

    That model you actually have more variants than that… 😂 mini one, Mini Cooper, Mini Cooper S exclusive, Mini Cooper S sport (I know) Mini Cooper JCW and you also have the GP. Just thought I would add to the confusion. Great vid!😃

    The key fob is round because its speedometer used to be the big round space where the center display is.

  • @doneB830
    @doneB830 2 роки тому +1

    The circular centre is because the original classic mini had a large centre speedo therefore it’s part of the retro image you should do your homework if you have had the car for a week and at least know how things work like the middle BMW type I drive system.

      Yes, I know this, but that doesn't make it a good design.

    Tip, flip the armrest up when your conditions require lots of gear changes. It's the only way for your arm to be at the right angle and not smash your elbow into the armrest. Once cruising, back down it comes. Nice vid, good interaction with the camera, keep'um coming.

    If you are confused by the Mini line up then there is no point whatsoever in anybody explaining the laws of cricket to you. Just sayin'

      No idea how people get confused on simple levels going up. Brain dead drivers is something I want less of on the road. BMW knows this.

    4:48 ouch! Is it me or was that a hard slam on the hatch?

    • @ChrisONeillUSA
      @ChrisONeillUSA  Рік тому +1

      Grab handles are built into the trim on the inside/underside of the hatch. To me that means you should be able to fully close the hatch via that motion. If that's how hard you have to swing it in order to do that, then the car should be able to handle that (and tbh I don't feel like I had to slam it particularly hard, and the car handled it fine).
      I spent a year working on design guidelines like this for a European automaker so I have some experience here.

      @@ChrisONeillUSA thank you I wasn’t sure tbh cuz it’s a video. On the other hand I’ve had folks slam my hatch heck I’ve slammed it hard without realizing it only to think oh damn lol
