this is from the Nightwish Cruise on the Baltic princess. Tuomas and Emppu are in the audience. Watch this unofficial performance complete! It has some funny moments, like Troy starting the tune of the Titanic and Floor stopping him shouting "do you know what happened to that boat?" Also Marko shouting " she's gonna doit, she's gonna doit" when Floor is about to start that high note during " Alone"
@@missrubyphoenix I do not think there is a full documentary of this trip, only a kind of back stage recording: ua-cam.com/video/lBbsQ9Htn28/v-deo.html and fan made impressions.
The reason why I like this recording is because especially in those first notes you can hear the most pure and nearly "Folky" version of Floor's voice of any recording that I know of her. Fun fact: It has happend with After Forever or Revamp that there was some bloke misbehaving in front of the stage, and Floor stopped the band, pointed at the guy, and said: "Hey you, get up here, I want to talk to you..." (legend does not tell what became of him). BTW: there is also a great accoustic recording of "Alone" from this cruise
I love this version, and no not all of the concert they gave was acoustic, they gave a normal concert on the cruise, but they did some acoustic things for the people during the cruise to for entertainment. You can see in the documentary The Making of Endless Forms Most Beautiful
As others have already said, Troy is playing the Uilleann pipes. I believe the bellows under Troy's right arm inflate the bag under his left arm. He squeezes this to blow air at whatever intensity he needs through the pipes. I found this quote, The old adage, often quoted by the late Seamus Ennis - “The uilleann pipes take seven years of learning; seven years of practising, seven years of playing” - indicates the need for a lifetime of dedication
That was the First and only Nightwish Cruise so far. Tuomas and Empuu took in the acoustic show from the Balcony. There is more good music from that Cruise, such as Floors acoustic Alone.
Troy is playing the uillean ( said ill-in) pipes. I can’t spell, but basically they are the Irish equivalent to the traditional Scottish Highland bagpipes everyone is usually familiar with. And the air system is in the name! That word, uillean, means elbow in Irish Gaelic. So to play, he has a bellows pump under one arm, which fills the bag under his other arm which, when squeezed by that arm, sends the air through the pipes, and the notes are governed by the notes his fingers play. Good luck learning them! Troy himself says you have to be a little crazy to do so. But don’t worry, all the best people are a little crazy.
@@playagain963 more power to you! A lot of artists talk of a time when they knew what they wanted to do and mention things like being “called” to the art or not being able to go a few days without making art in their own way. If the pipes are calling you, and have been for a while, I say go for it! It can’t hurt to try!
Lol and Nightwish did a whole song that speaks of how technology and phones have consumed our lives. If you watch the Noise, but the video version they made and not a concert version you can see the message they're sending.
The album was released in March 2015. This performance was filmed in June 2015. This was the first live performance of this song. Edema Ruh has only been shown live seven times.
You can listen to the truly frightening power of Floor Jansen vocals here. Revamp: Misery's no Crime. @ Mezz Breda 17-01-2014,ua-cam.com/video/SNPesLFTnUg/v-deo.html what Floor does with her vocals here is written in Wikipedia in her biography, here Floor almost in one breath, goes from death metal growl to a full operatic voice with high powerful notes, and Floor does it at an incredible high level.
Hi there! From what l gather Uilleann means "elbow" in Gaelic...the arm supplies a bellows on the instrument with air...They cost around 3000 to 4000 euros...have no idea how much that is in dollars but l betcha not cheap! Apparently it takes years to learn to play it well. Love this intimate rendition of this song.. It hits you even deeper in the soul doesn't it? Wheather with full blown production or stripped down Nightwish are the real deal. Thanks for all these great reactions. Take care !
Troy definitely earned his pipes that night (reference to the Kingkiller Chronicle ) and Floor on percussion. :) If you want to play the Uillean pipes, better start now. Troy took about 20 years to master them. They are inflated with bellows under the right elbow (the name translates to "elbow pipes").
Good luck learning to play the Uilleann (elbow) pipes. Apparently one of the most difficult instruments as you pump bellows under right elbow, squeeze bag with left arm and still use both hands to play the notes. Troy has guested on so many recordings as not that many experts on them.
Absolutely loved your reaction. Yes. An acoustic performance from the Nightwish Baltic Princess Cruise in 2015. This separate show was something Troy and Marko came up with as seen in a funny video where Troy says they must have been doing some serious drinking to agree to do it. Lovely and parts of this mini-concert were hilarious. Here's a link to "Alone" where Troy starts out playing the song from Titanic and Floor jumps all over him for trying to sink the ship. Enjoy. ua-cam.com/video/ObT2E9QTIZs/v-deo.html
This one is definitely my favorite version. I like the studio versions a lot, but somehow Floor's vocals always seem a bit too sterile/accurate to me. And live, her voice takes on a completely different presence
I was in this Cruise Ship show. It was awesome experience. Have seen them live in concerts too, but this was so intimate feeling.

Do you have the link to the whole concert? Or know where I can find it? I've been looking for it for weeks now

So far! This sounds like the greatest cruise of all time

Thanks for doing this one.

I feel like I have to learn how to play them. I’ve always wanted to learn the piano and bagpipes!

Album wasn´t out at the time they played it here so it was totally first time hearing.
What a way to debut a song. Amazing

This is a spontaneous gig during the Nightwish cruise
Good find!
There's a few gems outta this show.
They are the Edema Ruh, i love this by far more than Elan.

´See us dream every tale true`
That final part with Troy on the Uilleann pipes is like seeing a great Irish folk band in a pub.

Had it not been for somebody 'being on their phone' you wouldn't have even seen this footage!
This is another great song from what has become my favourite Nightwish album. Thanks for reacting to this version. I knew you'd love it!
This version is Special !!!
I Love this song 🤘🥰🤘.
NWSU.
nice improv moment
I really like this one
My favourite version of the song.

All I will say is Nightwish would not be out of place at a Kitchen party in Newfoundland playing that song.
Right!. I listened to that about 10 times after the video ended
Watched to Kai, he is singing too.
Uilien pipes
Nice
Tuomas has said he likes the smaller venues the best.
