Lyrics:
This silver bird takes me ‘cross the sky
Just one more hour and I'll be home and dry
‘Cross the ocean, way above the clouds I come stealin'.
Feelin' tired, but I feel good
Cause I did everything I said I would
I think of you, and I know how you'll be feelin'.
I gotta see you, I gotta be with you
We'll make it better now in every way
It's gotta be you, it's gotta be you
Yes from now on I'll tell you everyday.
Way up here above this timeless sea
I realize just what it is you mean to me
You give me somethin' when I thought that everything we had was dyin'.
I need a reason just to make me carry on
Well I know better now, I know where I belong
I can't imagine how I ever let myself just give up tryin'.
I gotta see you, I gotta be with you
We'll make it better now in every way
It's gotta be you, it's gotta be you
Yes from now on I'll tell you everyday.
Oooooh, yes home and dry.
Ain't nothin' up here gonna slow me down
You know I never ever take the long way ‘round
I think of you, cause I know how you'll be feelin'.
This silver bird takes me ‘cross the sky
Just one more hour and I'll be home and dry
‘Cross the ocean, way above the clouds I come stealin'.
I gotta see you, I gotta be with you
We'll make it better now in every way
It's gotta be you, it's gotta be you
Yes from now on I'll tell you everyday.
Oooooh, yes home and dry.

Best track on the album- what a song! This Silver Bird…
My favorite track too! Gerry Rafferty should be in the Rock N Roll Hall of fame.
"Home and Dry" is my favorite Rafferty song. It raises the goose bumps on my arms and scalp it's that good. I find myself singing it in random places. Cheers to a brilliant man. RIP, Gerry ❤
Years ago my Mom told me that the best singers were the ones where you could hear every lyric..she was right. Gerry Rafferty was one Awesome singer ☺️.
My favorite song on this album
Gerry is one of the most underrated artists in music history.
So 100% true! Gerry's songs, all superb, especially this one!
Well I have no argument with you on that. From the moment my wife & I bought City to City back in the 70's, We knew then he was a bit special.
Maybe thee most !
@@robharding5345 I have that masterpiece on cassette tape!
Yes! An album that I am so glad I found.
Have loved this since I was 12 or 13. Am 57 now and still do! God Bless him!
This album is one of my favorites from the 1970s.
mine too
Gerry has been gone 10 years now....but he lives on in his music.
I’m not saying he had the most hits of any musician but he probably had the most hits per song written. He was a true genius. Like MJ in basketball he made this look different.
There's a new (posthumous) release due which has taken demos of Gerry's thru the years and turned them into complete recordings. It's called Rest In Blue and features some of the session musicians who worked with him.
When Music Was Real 😎🎸🎶🎶🎶🎶
I picked this album up purely for Baker Street thinking that it might be the only good song on the album. Turns out that this is pretty much a masterpiece. Beautiful songs, brilliant production... A new favourite.
I agree. This i s one of only a small handful of truly flawless albums. Every (and I mean every!) track is brilliant.
Baker Street is probably the worst track.
Agreed, I'd also add "Right down the Line"👍
May I suggest “Night Owl” or “Fergalies Park”
Gerry Rafferty and Joe Egan go together like Rum & Coke 👍✌️🇬🇧
Awesome song and album-I agree 100%!
One of my favorite songs ever. It's warm and bouyant. Great stuff. Great album.
Hands down my favorite Rafferty tune.
Great walking song! 🚶
Home and dry I've heard a few times but now i find myself listening to this song over and over.
Once again Mr Rafferty brother I love You.. you are a constant companion in my life ,your voice accompanies me every day ,if only you knew how important you are to the people that enjoy your music.. blessings to your memory.
The more times i listen to this song, the better it becomes !
I first heard this in a United 747 on a flight from SFO-ORD in the fall of 1977. It was on the pop hits channel. I was so mesmerized by the song, I timed the channel so I would know when the song would play again. I listened everytime it played. And now some 45 years later I am still mesmerized.
IGREETINGS FROM ARKANSAS USA I WAS 11 YEARS OLD WHEN THIS ALBUME CAME OUT WE LOVE JERRY RAFFERTY SEEMS LIKE HE WAS A GOOD MAN WHICH IS A RARE BREED....GOD BLESS YOU AND YOURS
What a great soundtrack to an airline commercial this would be- actually scrap that idea. This song is sooo good no advertisement could ever do it justice. Wow - what a song
Totally brilliant, genius at work. RIP
yes he was
YES!!💯💯💯
This reminds me of George Harrison, in the great way that George wrote. Man I would love to have heard those 2 together!
I also feel that musically there was a kinship between George and Gerry. However his musical hero was John Lennon
Man, if only Gerald had known just how bloody awesome he was.He shortchanged himself on an extraordinary level. We miss you man !
yes
My late father wasn’t a good dad, role model or a family man.
His one saving grace was he introduced me to Gerry Rafferty.
Nothing's so awful it isn't good for something, as my old mom always says.
Treasure the memories xx
MIKE : I HOPE YOU GET TO READ THIS FOR ENCOURAGEMENT BECAUSE OF YOUR COMMENT REGARDING YOUR FATHER. FIRST I WANT TO SAY HOW SORRY I AM THAT YOU DID'NT EXPERIENCE A HEALTHY FATHER-SON RELATIONSHIP AS YOU SHOULD HAVE ITS TERRIBLE AND IT SHOULD HAVE NEVER HAPPENED HOWEVER YOU ARE NOT YOUR FATHER YOU ARE UNIQUE & MADE IN "GODS" IMAGE & GOD WANTS YOU TO TALK TO HIM EVERYDAY JUST AS YOU ARE & TELL HIM ALL OF YOUR CONCERNS, THOUGHTS, FEARS ANYTHING BECAUSE HE IS BY FAR THE GREATEST FRIEND WE CAN HAVE. DO NOT LET THE " ENEMY " SATAN TAKE YOUR JOY, YOUR ABILITY, YOUR POWER WITHIN FROM YOUR CREATOR " GOD " TO BE ALL THAT GOD INTENDS FOR YOU TO BE !!!!!!! GOD OUR CREATOR GAVE EACH OF US FREE WILL AND LIKE MOST OF US THAT WONDERFUL 🎁 GIFT FREE WILL IS USED WRONG FOR OUR OWN SELFISH DESIRES, ET WHAT SEEMED TO HAVE BEEN THE CASE WITH YOUR FATHER & SADLY THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MANY PEOPLE & CONTINUES TO HAPPEN UNLESS WE DO OUR BEST TO USE OUR GOD GIVEN FREE WILL TO ALIGN WITH GODS WILL. WHEN WE COME TO THE " END " OF OURSELVES MEANING DOING THINGS OUR WAY & NOT ACKNOWLEDGING OUR CREATOR GOD IN EVERYTHING WE DO WE ARE BOUND FOR DESTRUCTION & DESPAIR 😮 WE CAN ONLY TRULY EXPERIENCE ✌ PEACE, LOVE, JOY, FREEDOM, WHEN WE HAVE A 1 ON 1 PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD ! GOD CREATED " ALL" LIVING THINGS, GENESIS 1: 23-25 NLT. NOW HERE IS A AWESOME QUOTE FOR YOU " THERE IS NO PERSON, THOUGHT, IDEA, MEMORY, IMAGE, FEELING OR SENSATION OUT OF THE PAST, IN THE PRESENT, OR EVER TO ARRIVE IN THE FUTURE THAT CAN STOP ME " YOU " FROM BEING SUCCESSFUL " REMEMBER TO KEEP GOD 1ST DAILY, TALK TO HIM, GET A KING JAMES BIBLE & START TO READ IT DAILY IF IF ITS ONLY FOR HALF N HOUR JUST START BECAUSE GOD WANTS YOU TO REACH OUT TO HIM BECAUSE GOD IS THE ULTIMATE SOURCE OF OUR NEEDS & WANTS ! GOD IS BIGGER THAN ANY PROBLEM, HIS WISDOM IS INFINITE, HIS POWER IS GREATER & BIGGER THAN THE UNIVERSE & YOU HAVE ACCESS TO GODS POWER AT ANY TIME ON ANY DAY BUT YOU NEED TO MEDITATE, BE STILL & NO DISTRACTIONS OF ANY KIND ! ALSO THE ENEMY OF GOD IS VERY REAL " SATAN " & HIS ASSAULTS OR ATTACKS ON PEOPLE ARE RELENTLESS THESE ARE A FEW OF THE THINGS HE LIES TO US ABOUT THEY ARE : TELLING US WE'RE NO GOOD WHICH IS SELF CONDEMNATION, DEPRESSION, DOUBT, FEARS OF ANY KIND, ANXIETY, ANGER, RESENTMENT, JEALOUSY, SO YOU MUST WATCH WHAT YOUR THINKING AT ALL TIMES BECAUSE SATAN WILL USE WHATEVER AVENUE HE CAN IN A PERSONS LIFE TO DESTROY THEM FOR EXAMPLE YOUR FATHER NOT BEING A GOOD ROLE MODEL " YOU " HOWEVER CAN & WILL BE A GREAT ROLE MODEL FOR YOUR CHILDREN IF YOU HAVE KIDS OR WHEN YOU DO GET BLESSED WITH THEM ! YOU MIKE KNOW WHAT YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE AS YOUR FATHER WAS TOWARDS YOU ! WE HAVE 1 LIFE HERE ON GODS EARTH & GOD LOVES YOU MORE THAN ANY EARTHLY FATHER COULD BECAUSE IT WAS "GOD" OUR CREATOR THAN WILLINGLY ALLOWED HIMSELF TO BE CRUCIFIED ON A ✝ CROSS FOR EACH & EVERY ONE OF US, JESUS DIED IN OUR PLACE FOR OUR SINS SO THAT FOR THOSE OF US WHO BELIEVE BY FAITH IN THE DEATH, BURIAL, & RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD & ONLY SAVIOUR OF MANKIND !!!!!!! GOD LOVED US SO MUCH HE " STRETCHED OUT HIS ARMS & DIED FOR US ALL " I PRAY MIKE THAT GOD WILL SUPERNATURALLY ALLOW FOR YOU TO READ MY COMMENT TO YOU WHICH I HAVE ONLY BEEN ABLE TO DO THRU THE POWER & GUIDANCE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT ✝ MAY GOD RICHLY BLESS YOU, PROTECT & GUIDE YOU ALWAYS IN THE NAME OF JESUS ✝
Rain washes everything... and everyone, clean. You can see it clearly now, yes?
Your dad and mine should have been invited to the same party. Shit sticks together.
I just bought this album (2022) after realizing how much I've always loved Baker Street and Right Down the Line, figuring there had to be other gems on this train of thought/album. Found many, but this one, which I do remember barely in the 70's, just became my newest favorite song! Thanks fore sharing with everyone!
Wat a album brilliant wat a talent that man was ,r.i.p never be forgotten..
Ask any military guy who was stationed overseas at the time ; late 70s, about this hit , and wow, they'll remember it quickly, gerry Rafferty was awesome 🎶🎵🎼 RIP Gerry Rafferty!
Peaked at number 28 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart in 1979.
23 on Cashbox and 24 on Record World too
Always Love This!!!
My old man has this man's records both on Vinyl and CD'S....I finally understand why,Gerry was a musical genius...Wish we met.
Never got to see Gerry live, he was taken too young. His music however is timeless.
My friends laugh but this is a badass song
Gerry!!
This is why music albums are so great. Back in the late 1970s, when Baker Street was the hit I bought the LP. I still have it. And whilst Baker St is always there, those album filler tracks have become the things I really remember from this album.
I LOVE THIS SONG 🎵🌌⏳️🚀
You know, it's funny for me to say this. But every time I hear this song, it reminds me of my beautiful cat Patches, who, unfortunately, passed away back in July of 2019. So sad, but this is a very nice, soft tune.
😢😢😢😢❤
This song is huge and epic.
We FIREFIGHTERS LIKE GERRY’S songs!! Fantastic accompaniment too!!
Thank You for your service god bless and protect you and your brothers in arms. Much love to you
I love the rhythm section especially on this.
For some reason, it sounds like walking.
It may have to do with what the drummer is playing on the hi-hat. In rock songs the drummer usually plays eighth notes but he is alternating between quarter notes on the verse and sixteenth notes on the chorus.
@@MikeSparksMusic Great observation.
Gerry's drummer was very strong on this one to convey a sense of walking on his kit so well.
Jerry Rafferty was one of the best of my generation. This song brings back so many fond memories.
*Gerry
One of my favorite all time artists.....
Rab Noakes, Rafferty and Egan. Tunesmiths aye
yes
We all know that baker street sold this album, But what many don't realize, is that there were some great songs on this album, Like this one for instance, Gerry didn't do bad songs,He would not have stood for it.
Undoubtedly another immortal Track sung and written by Gerry .I suppose why i would regard it highly .Is everything what you hear as far as instrumental backing goes.fits in perfectly in the manner of how .Each lyric and verse go.Which i find so mentally stimulating.
Favorite Rafferty song AND one of my all-time favorite songs in rock. This track is special in its songwriting, musicianship, arrangement, production, instrumentation, Gerry's lead vocal AND the backing vocals. The vocal blend on the backing vocal is just amazing - I wish I could hear it isolated - and was accomplished, if my sources are correct, by just two guys, Gary Taylor and Gerry, although it sounds like a chorus of men & women. Well done!
Can anybody envision Barry Manilow doing this song? Gerry's voice is a cross between that of BOTH Barry and the late John Lennon imho. No insult here. I own City To City on CD. And I really like this song.
This silver bird takes me 'cross the sky.
Just one more hour, and I'll be home and dry.
'Cross the ocean, way above the clouds,
I come stealin'.
Feelin' tired, but I feel good,
‘Cause I did everything I said I would.
I think of you, and I know how you'll be feelin'.
I gotta see you. I gotta be with you.
We'll make it better, now, in every way.
It's gotta be you. It's gotta be you.
Yes. From now on, I'll tell you every day.

That everything we had was dyin'.
I needed reason just to make me carry on.
Well, I know better, now. I know where I belong.
I can't imagine how I ever let myself
Just give up tryin'.
I gotta see you. I gotta be with you.
We'll make it better, now, in every way.
It's gotta be you. It's gotta be you.
Yes. From now on, I'll tell you every day.
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh,
Ooh-ooh. Ooh-ooh-ooh. Yes. Home and dry.
Ain't nothin' up here gonna slow me down.
You know, I never, ever take the long way 'round.
I think of you, cause I know how you'll be feelin'.
This silver bird takes me 'cross the sky.
Just one more hour, and I'll be home and dry.
'Cross the ocean, way above the clouds,

Gerry Rafferty's best song.
Thanks, Lyrics-bro!
@@Penoatle You're welcome. Truly a labor of love.
Great name !My late father was called Bill, and we miss him so much !
Beautiful. Love it. Great album
I played this album over and over because I loved it that much. I adore Gerry Rafferty s music and alw
Yes!!! The way this song is structured reminds me so much of my favorite solo George track, "What Is Life." Both songs so chock-full of fantastic hooks!
My favorite song from his city to city album
Always just loved this guy & his music. Thanks Gerry. RIP!!! Yep love me some Gerry Rafferty!!! I’m about a quarter Scottish myself. Although my Granny was born here, her Mother died at 33 , My Granny was only 13 & it left her to raise the other children. Even before that , There was so much back breaking work to do that she just never had time to talk to her about her roots. VERY SAD!!! But that seems to be the way it was. My Grandfater was black Dutch & just meaner than a snake. He never wanted us to visit. Grandma would get him with the broom when he’d get mean to us kid. I loved to go to Grandmas but he’d make me cry all day. She’d say just stay away from him. He’s an old devil. And he was too. Lol!!!
Was reading some bit and someone mentioned this song and the memory of it popped right up: bought the album (8 track) backinnaday and played the heck our of it - Rafferty, among many others, helped tutor me there was more stuff out there worth seeking out.
The opening sequence before the vocals start reminds me of Goldfinger. As ever another classy number from Gerry Rafferty.
Every song had a lot of character. It makes me think that he was a very prolific writer with a rich songbook.
More than you can imagine!!!!!!!!!
Home and Dry.✌️🕊☝️
Home And Dry , Beautiful ❤️ , Only Somebody In Love Can Write Suth A fantastic SONG 🎵🎶🎧🎵🎶🎶💚
Lead singer for " Steeler's Wheel" ie "Stuck in the middle with you".
Superb vocals. Such a loss...
Damn best Gerry Rafferty song
of all time! Next to Baker Street, of course
Uplifting number. It was a minor hit in the U.S., reaching No.29.
In the spring of '79
@@jacobvandijk6525 Only Baker Street was released in the UK as a single.
I bought this album years ago and absolutely loved it.
Was in Seattle when this was new, sometimes walking in rain completely soaked, kept me going a few times
was erg ziek,en veel geleden
moest huilen om weer eens te horen
maakt me sterk
👍
Un classique que j'écoutais lors de nos moments de solitude dans les montagnes de l'Adrar chez moi en Mauritanie alors que je servais dans les forces spéciales du 1er bataillon de commandos parachutistes.un morceau d'anthologie.
Just an amazingly wonderful song!
In my collection.
Bought this album years ago still love his music
In 1937 Bukka White recorded Shake 'em on Down. In 1970 Led Zeppelin reimagined that song as Hats Off to (Roy) Harper. In 1975 Led Zeppelin took another crack at the song and called it Custard Pie. In 1978 Gerry Rafferty recreated it as Home and Dry.
Thanks for the music history. I just listed to Booker White’s song.
Muy bella música.... bellos recuerdos..
I have this cd.He us the best!🎸🎤

When I was young, I would play this after getting home from a dope run
Interesting that this has film grain/noise .. I wonder if it was from a film shown inbetween features at a drive-in movie?

Could this guy write a bad? song?
No
nope
Uh uhh! Never EVER❤
Of course I have a love for Gerry's .using. But truthfully great artists can lose it. Had Gerry li Ed to be old like I
Billy Joel I thi k he wod have stopped or Ed a Stevie Wonder which is to say new but every qt years. I absolutely love Cat Steven's aka as Yusuf Islam. But he would have to put me in a roo. with him with his Koran and swear that his region made hi. quitmuzi. for so long. Why people because great artists lose their. aging touch.
.
e more carec how I post met at end to say .Alice touch Rafferty, Wonder a d at or Yuzuf sure had it. And .aybe still some traces.
